Other 2.4 issues as a ex chevy tech, high pressure injection pump leaks fuel into crank case( often times oil will smell like raw fuel) and timing chain get lots of slack with higher mileage and can be very loud.

Awesome video!!!!!!! Respect! About the Equinox.......is a problem everywhere in that car ! Just bought a 2015 with 146 000 miles on it ! I had to replace the shocks , some direction parts , the muffler and the catalytic converter. Then the misfires comes stronger in the cold mornings together with P0300 and P0562 . Replaced the sparks ,coils and cleaned the injectors. Think what ....nothing changed ! Then they replaced the O2 sensors . Nothing good again. Yesterday the new AC compressor stops working. Now is replacing that . I'm so tired about this car ! Never I'll buy a used Chevy .

Can confirm, I have a 2017 gmc terrain 2.4L PCV value gummed up in my Pennsylvania winter weather it got -0 and blew my rear crankcase seal out. Also a few weeks later my timing chain started to go! Also a common issue I was told by a few shops including the main Chevrolet dealer.

2012 equinox with the 2.4, you hit them issues just right. Constantly adding oil to mine now, but didn’t really start being a massive problem until AFTER the covered period. Great vehicle but chevy really screwed up on that motor. Any way you could do a video on how to pop off the intake to clear the Pcv hole?

Hi gang, I have a question I think a lot of folks may be wondering, many if not all Chevy 2.4 liter engines are made to run E 85 fuel and or regular unleaded, here in Nevada, E85 is not always available and regular unleaded is used probably more often than not . I wonder if many of the problems that I see around the 2.4 liter engine may be attributed to using regular gas, we know it runs with a higher HC exhaust, but what other effects does it have on the engine. The real answer would be to find two of these engines, one run exclusively on E85 and the other engine run on regular fuel . I am thinking that is the problem with such an early high failure rate. Anyone have any data on this ?

I was going to get a 2016 Equinox LTZ but landed up with a 2016 Rav4 SE. While I love my Rav and she has proven to be a solid and reliable workhorse (as true to Toyotas) I can't get passed what a taxicab/appliance this SUV is and wondered if I would have enjoyed the softer riding and more tech equipped Equinox more. But I am curious if the reliability on it would even compare. I do take very good care of my cars so if it landed up being a lemon it wouldn't have been because I neglected the maintenance on it.

No mention of timing chain/guides? That definitely should have been #2 on this list. #3 at my shop and in the north country of NY is the rear main. That's my experience with them anyways. Bread winners for sure like the good old days with the 3100 and 3400's plastic intake gasket failures.

@@slscamg When I bought my 2009 Honda CR-V, I test drove a Chevy Equinox, & a Ford Edge. The performance, seating arrangements and space inside, the Honda was the best. Price, they were in the same ballpark. My Crv has 120,000 miles and I have not had any issues or repairs. It’s like the ‘98 Civic that had 170,000 miles, but because of a medical problem with my foot (civic was a stick shift), I had to sell it and buy an automatic. However, I will not buy another Honda with a small engine, CVT transmission, & turbo. I bought my wife a new 2017 Toyota RAV4. It has a 2.5L 4cyl and a 6 sp. Automatic transmission, and most of the safety stuff, standard. It has lane hold and lane beeping, adaptive cruise control and automatic braking. These features on a std. Crv would be 2-3k more. @@jimpie231 I bought a 2011 Equinox LT used in 2014 for around 11k with low mileage, I bought it because the price was cheap because it was owned by my brother, I changed all fluids regularly and had 0 problems, it’s slow and a bit underpowered but It gets the job done, very spacious, I drive mostly on the highway and i like the soft smooth suspension on it, feels like your driving on a couch and you don’t feel bumps, very responsive brakes and steering, the electronic system is useful, it gives a lot of information on how the car uses gas, oil etc. Very easy car to operate, my 17 yr old son learns to drive with it with ease. No road noises on highway at 85 miles per hour or very little.cons: lack of power, from the engine, some cheap plastics in the interior, expensive on gas, since a year the engine burns 3/4 of its oil between oil changes so I added a product in the engine with some new oil, it supposedly helps the engine piston rings and stuff and it worked, burns less than a 1/4 of its oil it’s now at 215 000ish miles

What about when the engine is STILL running with the ignition OFF and key in pocket? No codes, no check light and it’s not pre ignition, the engine is literally running. The only safe way I was able to shut off the engine was to remove the “ENGINE CONTROL RELAY”… I also noticed that there is still power going to the “engine control relay” with engine OFF and ignition off and key in picket. I’m thinking the fault lies within the steering column’s mechanical key ignition switch. What do you think??
@creekwalker81782 жыл бұрын
From what I have found that was an issue in 2010 & 2011 models. GM put out a software update that killed the power totally with key out. Yours might have missed that recall. Still gonna have the gas getting in the oil, though, which was causing the "run on" problem to begin with.

I own a 2013 Buick Verano with the 2.4l engine with 75,000 miles that was using too much oil. Some of the changes that help resolve my oil usage problem includes: 1. Only use Top Tier Gasoline. Phillip's 66 and Conoco gasoline detergent additives are 30% above Top Tier requirements! 2. Only use ILSAC GF-6A 5W-30 oils with "no issues" (green dot). 3. Always change oil and filter every 5,000 miles! 4. Occasionally (2,500 miles) use a fuel additive such as Amsoil PI or Gumout with PEA in a full tank of gas.

We just "inherited" my mother-in-law's 2014 Equinox LTZ 2.4L AWD... it only has 50K miles on it, but I'm still nervous about owning it for very long. We have a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe 2.7L V-6 FWD that we bought new - it now has over 200K on it, and we've had minimal problems - it's been a great car and my wife still loves it (she's the primary driver). I had the timing belt changed at 100K, and will probably have it done again soon, because we'll probably drive this thing for another 50-75K! Hyundai did a great job with this one. It can be those intake and exhaust solenoids getting gummed up. You can pop them out and hose them down with brake cleaner. Other issue may be oil. You can move to a higher viscosity oil or use a viscosity booster. I'm about to do both to mine since it's having a little stuttering at red lights.
