Miracleman #15…the infamous cover (and issue) depicting violence I had never seen since pre code horror comics. The portrayal of a decapitated head is horrific. I’m glad I still own the entire original run from the “80”s.

Yes! And Silver Surfer #16 has Sue punching Reed! I wish they would have exaggerated his rubber face, but they took a more serious tone (on the cover). The only Miracleman issue from Marvel I have is #15, cause the Eclipse version was very expensive at the time. I know Alan Moore insisted to have his name removed from the Marvel printing. I think he hates them even more than DC, if this was possible!! 🤣 I also have the Kimota! book, I think I'll reread it... I'm not at all a big fan of early Mark Millar, I think he was trying too hard to outdo Garth Ennis, vulgarity & shock rarely make a good story I.M.H.O. As a controversial book, & despite my liking of Rob Liefeld, I would mention the hilarious Doom Patrol parody, Doom Force, a 1-shot writen by Grant Morrison with lots of artist. A gem !!
@thecomicsamurai11 ай бұрын
Kimota! was well written. I was surprised how quickly I got through it. I agree about early Millar stuff. I think he realized the same thing about vulgarity and shock. His writing went through an arc of change and maturity. He still likes a good shock, he's just better with the presentation. Or maybe not. I didn't know about Doom Force. But THAT is exactly why I make these videos! THANK YOU for the heads up! I can't wait to track that one down and give it a read, it looks like a great parody book. What a great comment, thank you!!!

Just an FYI, cro-magnons weren't ape-like ancestors to modern man, they were a group of early-modern humans who emerged between 40,000 and 10,000 years ago who looked indistinguishable from modern people. Indeed, scientists rarely even use the archaic term "cro-magnon" anymore and just use the terms "homo-sapiens" for these early modern humans instead. The more ape-like precursors to modern humans are called australopiths. Some of the more well-known australopiths from most ape-like to least, are Homo- Aferencis, Homo-Habilis, Homo-Florencius, Homo- Erectus, Denisovans, and Neanderthals, but Cro-Magnon (I.e. Homo-Sapiens) are simply anatomically modern humans who lived in the prehistoric stone age. Nothing is different about them physically from us, it's just that they lived before writing, and before recorded history, as hunter-gatherers during the cave-man period.

Unfortunately, it often happens that the colors of reprinted comics don't capture the original atmosphere of the story. For example, I think the reprints of Vertigo's Swamp Thing and Hellblazer don't do justice to the original. It's also a shame that the original colorists are no longer credited in the new reprints. Although they were an essential part of the creation of the comic. There is a very interesting video about this from ComicTropes. I can only recommend it.
@thecomicsamurai10 ай бұрын
I hear you. Usually I don't mind when the colors are a bit different or a newer application technique is used. The Miracleman (Marvel) reprints felt different. It was as if they were being cheeky or nasty in their treatments of color. It felt purposeful. I haven't seen the reprints of Swamp Thing or Hellblazer, but I thoroughly enjoyed every original. I'm yet to find a Longshot reprint that can capture the complexities of Art Adams' work. The original process just couldn't hold the color correctly. Thanks for the GREAT comment!!!
@AngusJo10 ай бұрын
@@thecomicsamurai Unfortunately, this is also something that is often lost in reprints, that due to the limited technology at the time, creative coloring methods and color schemes had to be chosen. Which resulted in a unique coloring for some stories. Which is no longer the case with the reprint.

facts like it shouldn’t be controversial sometimes a loved one dies and that can be a great motivation for a character in a story
@bufordhighwater987218 күн бұрын
@@thedarknite4397 It's not about someone dying. It's about treating women as disposable plot devices. Revenge or justice for a loved one dying is a classic trope. Woman in the fridge syndrome is about how often female characters and their deaths are used in that trope or just move a story along. The fact that people can't see why "fridging" is so bad shows how little we care about the character. We don't empathize over her death or feel bad for her. We just know that now Kyle has to avenge her death, cause he's a hero with a dead gf.

Cyclops knowingly pointing to his head, as if to say, "Use your head, folks. It's just sex." The controversy arises from the creators refusal to acknowledge the hidden words. Sex was not SAID in the comic, it was hidden, and thus arises the controversy. The fact that we're having this conversation, that you felt strongly enough to engage on this platform also proves this comic's power. I absolutely LOVE it.
