Eastern and Central Europe taking the lead was predictable. But I always had the feeling that the Christian parts of Africa are underrepresented. This is the first time I see African countries in the top league alongside Eastern and Central Europe.

Estonian people always criticise finnish people for their heavy alcohol consumption...and we didn't even end up in the list 🤭 actually Finland is in the lower average with alcohol consumption even we have got a bad reputation being heavy drinkers 🤣

I'm sure Poland and Russia are underrepresented in this for simple reason : there is massive underground producing and selling market for moonshine.There are whole parts of Poland (Eastern side near border) where moonshine is more popular than legit one. Official records of alcohol sold in shops have nothing to do with real consumptions. Not mention some people drink liquids no one else would consider as alcohol useable (denaturat, car window defreezer,aftershave). So this list is totally not accurate.

I tend to disagree. The drinking habits have signifcantly evolved in Poland in last 30 years, although I admit that in the early 2000’s Poland should be on the list. At present it is not the same country it used to be, when it comes to drinking. Which does not change the fact that we still like and still do 😊

@TheDataSays Of course it is. I was actually responding to januszjanusz’s comment. Living in certain areas of Poland may indeed create an impression that the nation is drinking heavily. But as you wrote the regional differences can be quite big and the total numbers for the whole country will show a different picture than regional measurements. These differences can naturally distort the perception of peope who live in given regions and lead to generalisations. Well, I somehow miss our Polish drinking culture from the past, but from the nation’s health point of view the changes are beneficial. By the way I would love to see the data for Poland splitted into regions, to see who in our country is raising the stats and who is lowering.

Update. According to official data Poland holds the 17th position in Europe, which sounds quite reasonable. I don’t know the global position. The highest rate is in the far west, far east and traditionally Silesia. Apparently central Poland has the lowest rate.
