i've been messing around with learning gypsy jazz for 40 years, have watched many lessons over the years , your videos are some of the best available lessons , i play fingerstyle a lot , but find playing with a pick gives the most accurate sound overall , and yes, i have watched your vids on fingerstyle gypsy jazz playing. very nicely done with easy to understand video to play along with ,, thank you !

Looking forward to your next video. However , I love how you break it down. But, I'd like to see you put the two parts together if that how it's ever played live. I really dig the rhythm guitar almost as much as the melody lines. Really love this. Thanks
@TheVersatileGuitarist3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, this is an ensemble style of music so you kind of *have* to have 2 guitars, one rhythm and one lead. To put them both together you would have to make too many compromises with the rhythm and we would lose that driving gypsy swing chord sound. That said, you can make a chord melody solo guitar arrangement of anything, and I will be posting up one of those soon to the song Djangology… see my video “Nuages” where I play my own arrangement of a Django song in free time.
@randallo36143 жыл бұрын
@@TheVersatileGuitarist Thanks I will. Also, call me lazy but could tab exactly the chords you are playing? I hope that's not too much to ask. Keep up all this cool music. I play electric and while I do acoustics too (no cat gut classical ) essentially want to blend this with whatever, whenever if it fits the song I'm writing or not. I'm rambling already but I like hearing what you know about the song , how old it is, who wrote it. Basically a history lesson, hahaha. When dropping names you are turning me on to music I would otherwise never hear.

A lot of these gypsy jazz chords are “shell voicings” where we just have the root, 3rd and 7th. Is that what you mean?

This style of music definitely does NOT fall into the Latin guitar category. It's a completely different tradition which has much more in common with the American Swing idiom from which it arose.
