Mario37519 Dooplis' chapter is my biggest gripe. You have to go back and forth between the town and castle SO much that by the time you're almost done the enemies only give you 1exp each. And the pathways are so narrow that you can hardly dodge them. 😥

Top ten games that felt a lot different from the rest of their series? Maybe something like Sonic Heroes or Super Paper Mario? Heck, even something like Pokémon Sun and Moon It might have to be a series with at least 5 games, because some series have only had 2 games and they’re pretty different.

InsainRaven that to me is why I don't like them someone gets a game they thought was good plays it finds out it isn't and then instead of stopping because it has those in it then they play it. The developers think we'll as long as it has those then we can make a crap game and then when people find out they have them they buy the game and the cycle never ends that is at least imo why I hope nintendo doesn't do them ever.

I maintain to this day, that Spec Ops: The Line is one of the greatest games ever made. I absolutely love it, because the gameplay is so perfectly generic, monotonous and at times boring. But then the story hits you like a ton of bricks, the much talked about white phosphorus scene in particular, and the game just keeps going. The game not only scolds Walker in-game through dialogue between characters, but the game in it's loading screens directly addresses the player. It's a phenomenal game and more to the point it's phenomenal commentary on other shooters or games where you do horrible things but never really have to feel too bad. Spec Ops: The Line is an absolute masterpiece.

It deserves a sizable chuck of it's praise for what it's trying to do but I'm not afraid to say it's meh at best for me personally. It might be because I'm a heavy reader of war literature and a bit of a history buff, but the story never affected me at all. Not even the white phosphorus scene, just replace the WS with napalm and you get one of the most horrible but common ways to die during the Vietnam war that I've come across that isn't the long term effects of Agent Orange on the human body. I also personally think it's going to be less impactful as we move forward mostly because it relies on people not knowing what to expect going in to have the full impact which is pretty hard to do in a world where the game's cutscenes can be edited into a movie and posted on youtube and such. And finally, as I guy who values gameplay over visuals just a bit, yeah SOTL was boring to play and that will always be a minus from me it being intentional be damned.
@Altoryu
@Altoryu 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah I disagree, I played through the entire thing and even got most of the achievements but I still came out of it feeling indifferent about it. Its not like the game gave you a choice on handling it any other sort of way so really the fault is off the player and onto the game cause its basically forced you to do something horrible and then decides it wants to mock you for doing that thing like its their fault doing said thing. And I pretty much think that is bullshit. Don't hate the player, hate the game. Never would have played this if it hadn't been gifted to me.
@saintsr0w1
@saintsr0w1 6 жыл бұрын
I love story bullshit. all mgs games, naughty dog games. etc. but the "game" part has to be good otherwise it's a bad game. if you want story only. then a movie is your best option. we can't call a game good when actually playing it is boring and unispired. I'm sure if the devs could go back and make changes to make it more enjoyable as a game, they would. cause despite the cool story stuff, all this game did was flop and lose them money.
@Soncikuro
@Soncikuro 6 жыл бұрын
Personally I had fun with the gameplay and the only part that made me think was at the end when I thought '' so much killing for nothing''. As for the ''you're horrible for playing the game'', that message never crossed my mind, I guess it's because to continue the story you have to do the ''bad things'' the game makes you do, so I was rather indifferent about it.

Spec ops the line and undertale are both games that seem to deconstruct the tropes and general expectations of their genre. Do you think there are any other games out there that do the same and would there be enough to make a list of it?
@tanandalynch9441
@tanandalynch9441 2 жыл бұрын
At least in undertale you have a choice from the start. Spec Ops forces you yo use the white phosphorus and then tries to berate you for it
@Nazo-kage
@Nazo-kage 2 жыл бұрын
@@tanandalynch9441 Oh but there is a choice that you can make about the white phosphorus event. Quit, and then stop playing the game. That’s the point, both games use a players drive to finish the game against them. In a way The game was made with spoilers in mind. At this point everybody who’s even interested in playing spec ops would know about the white phosphorus event. So now it’s not berating you for doing it, it’s berating you because you knew that this would happen and you did it anyway.
@royalhistorian5109
@royalhistorian5109 2 жыл бұрын
@@tanandalynch9441 but I think that is kind of the point of Spec Ops...it's following what most First person shooters were at the time, which is just mindlessly following an objective, in fact, the game even acknowledges the fact that it's wrong but...you choose to follow the objective and do it anyways.

The Sans fight in Undertale for me. Not because it was hard mind you. I decided before my genocide run that I'd never do one. Then I saw the Sans fight and said, "Yeah alright I think I'll atleast get to that." I gave him one attempt and then said that I'd got what I came for. I went ahead and ran a true pacifist run again after that and haven't touched the game since.

This is definitely a more personal list, but how about "Top 5 Games I Didn't Play Until I was Older?" Like, games you always saw commercials for, or saw an older friend playing, or ones your parents didn't let you play until you were much older. Basically games you wish you played when you were younger, or when they first came out, but didn't for whatever reason. For example, I remember seeing Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the longest time at a local movie rental place, and it interested me because I recognized Mario and Pikachu and kind of knew who Link was, but I never picked it up because it was rated T and I wasn't a teenager yet. I eventually did, but it wasn't until much, much later. Yeah, that's right, my parents didn't need to enforce the age rule because I already did. I was a weird kid.

The Bravely Default bit is annoying but I can't understand dropping the whole game for it. It takes a little over an hour to b-line it through chapters 6 and 7 to get to the end of the game. It's not like you're repeating everything all over again. You have flight by this point and can go straight to the crystals, blitz the bosses and move on. You don't have to visit the other bosses if you don't want to, most of them barely change.
@Bluntteh

Ashtarte I feel like a lot of the people complaining are dumb and doing every one of the last four chapters as slow as possible. You're supposed to do each crystal in each chapter very quickly. You can get through all four in like an hour o:

I mean I loved the game and it’s sequel, but I’m a bit of a completionist and felt compelled to do all the side quests. The side quests were fun little side stories but then coming back to the main story and versing the 4 same bosses again is just tedious. I love the idea of parallel worlds and from a story perspective it worked, but in practicality , versing the same bosses 4 times is hard to defend
@f1s53r
@f1s53r 6 жыл бұрын
The main problem is that Bravely default is a very grind-heavy game, and if you didn't spend hours upon hours grinding for the crystal bosses, you're going to have to fight the other bosses in order to match up to their level.
@nephjd88
@nephjd88 6 жыл бұрын
It's extremely tedious, though. I like the story reasons, but the game suffered because of it. I know I dropped the game for a long time before coming back to it because I just lost all interest after the second loop. It's hard to push yourself through anything when you have absolutely no desire to.

I remember that second rope swing test in the wind waker and specifically that I got stuck there. Maybe a month or two later I had a theory based on remembering that the shield button said "Stop" while swinging. Tested it and went on with the game, eventually finishing it. What I realised on my second playthrough was that Niko tells you how to change direction on a rope if you miss a jump in the first test. Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker witholds information from you if you play it well.

One game I stopped playing recently was "Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories". The more I played the more and more bored and tedious I became, but I wanted to push through till the end. That was until I got to the final floor of Castle Oblivion, which had SO many rooms. At this point I just wanted the game to end, and seeing this made my heart sank. My idea again: Top 5 Games That Are Hard to Come Back To Unlike Overshadowed Games, these would be games people still play/praise/remember fondly. However, they had some flaws a sequel or the genre fixed, making it hard to enjoy the original game as much. Possibilities: Goldeneye 64, Batman: Arkham Asylum, or Pokémon Gen 1

In Starfox Adventures there was a "test of strength" part of the game where- in order to pass- you have to win a button mashing contest. I tried and tried but couldn't win, so I gave up for awhile. I eventually returned, armed with the knowledge of "the pen trick" (taking a pen and rubbing it across the A button to make it mash quickly) and beat that portion of the game but in my mind the game was clearly segmented into 2 portions because of the long hiatus I took from playing it. I know that Adventures gets a lot of crap from the fans for many reasons but honestly that was always the biggest crime to me.

For me, that moment came when playing Prince Of Persia: The Two Thrones. The game was pretty fun up until mid-way through the third act with a double-whammy of absurd difficulty spikes. The first came at the King's Road double-bossfight. It took a while but I got through. The second moment was The Well Of Ancestors - a long and brutal gauntlet that also has you play through it while The Prince is constantly losing health and can only refill it every so often. That section took me friggin' ages to get past. The worst part was that coming back to it after not having touched the game in a number of years, once you complete it, you then get a weapon that one-shots everything.

Getting stuck on a zelda game for me has always caused me to stop playing them. the only time this hasn't happened is in breath of the wild. though sometimes i stop playing and take a long hiatus just because there's a challenge that stumps me. like in last guardian where you got to get a barrel for Trico, and the barrel is behind one of the enemies and the only way to get it is to wake up the enemy, who will proceed to try and snatch you up.... i don't want to be caught and that stumping made me focus on nier automata for a very long time....

I stopped playing Botw's master mode, not the normal mode for dlc. I felt like the master modes combat was just unfair, making combat seem too complicated. And then it hit me, if I just run past all the enemies and ignore combat, then what else is there? The story is the same, the shrines are the same, the events are the same. It's just Botw but with an enemy mod. I'm restarting an entire game for the combat and not the shrines. If there was a time limit or a wall master or something to shake up the majoirty of shrines I wouldn't care but the fact that nothing is different is what upsetted me, even more so because this hard mode that barely did anything costed MONEY. They thought they were so clever with this that they used it as DLC and only to keep peoples seats warm for the champions ballad.

@HerotonAlmighty2011
@HerotonAlmighty2011 6 жыл бұрын
exactly, sure, I also didn't like that you had to basically do the 4 main bosses 5 times to get the real ending, but 1) You DON"T have to do that, just break the crystal and you get an ending that also puts you into NG+ mode with all of its perks to make going for the real ending, 2) Don't do it in one sitting, I did it over the course of a month and it really helped playing other things besides it, and 3) the True ending is VERY worth it for doing the Boss x5 BS. I'm also remembering back when Rabbidluigi said he didn't want to play Bravely Second because of this, which is EXTREMELY unfair since Second did away with that, and it's a mechanically better game because of it. Sure, there's always the whole first impression thing, but I really feel RabbidLuigi needs to at least Look up the ending to Default and go play Second, I'm SUPER sure he'll like it better
@ClaySmileSoil
@ClaySmileSoil 6 жыл бұрын
overcharging the crystal is…not the true ending. It’s still a good ending, both endings are good, but Bravely Second directly plays off of the true ending after you have done as airy told you to get to world 0 and fight the final boss. Honestly I Stillness-cheesed through all the boss fights starting halfway through chapter 5, strategy be damned.

The thing is, no matter what your opinion is, the truth is, The Wind Waker, as awesome as it is, isn't finished. The third pearl is just given to you, while the other 2 before have their own dungeons. The Skull Hammer was just kind of eh'd into the Forsaken Fortress. And the game is short. Nintendo obviously saw this and quickly cooked up the Triforce Hunt to make it longer. Does this make Wind Waker bad? Absolutely not. It's still great but, the Triforce Hunt was just made to make the game longer, and not as it was a good game design choice.

I remember having the same (or a similar) issue with "Wind Waker". As an adventure gamer it's my nature to explore first and follow the main quest second. But after traveling the whole map, fishing in every square, taking photos of everyone, at some point the main quest needed me to collect like 40(?) parts of something. (Possibly the maps you mentioned.) So I basically had to search the whole map again. That was the point where I quit.

The game gives you a lot of time for you to get used to the gameplay, since the timer only starts after you grabbing a bomb. You can go up and down, drive around with it and just gets going. It's also an optional mission, letting you continue the story and leaving it behind.

Pladica _ I can see why that would be annoying. Personally though, I hate how every pokemon game, Both main series and spin off, Doesnt have multiple save files. It just makes replaying them after beating the game much harder.

It's funny, but the reason I continued Spec Ops after that scene wasnt because I didn't care, it wrecked me, but we're so starved for well told and deep stories in action oriented AAA games, that I kept playing bc it was so engaging and unique. This, Bioshock series, Metal Gear, and the Naughty Dog games are basically all we have.

The worst part is Bravely default has TWO ENDINGS. And the Bad ending involves cutting off the repeat tango short. I love the game, i got invested... But man is that game hard to finish because of that last stretch...

I...still don't understand the misplaced hate the second half of Bravely Default gets. People talk as if it takes them hours to get through it, but provided you're just going through the story, it should only 2 hours at most for it all, if you're good at the game anyway. Compared to the 20+ hours that came before. And if you're tackling the side content, you're getting something new out of each world. Each story boss should take around 5 minutes to kill, probably less. Not only that, but you have fast travel as well as little in the way of major story beats. Is it a little tedious? Yes, but in the context of the story it's necessary, and I'll be blunt, if 1-2 hours of tedium is all it takes to put down a game you were apparently enjoying well-enough (in a genre where grinding is kind of a big thing), you probably didn't think much of it to begin with.

ShutUpAdachi No,the hate it gets is because it was a lazy attempt at panning out the game.

Shawn Decter It's not "elitist", it's how it works. The better you are at a game, the faster you can go through it. You shouldn't be having any trouble with the bosses at this point and if you know how to exploit the game's mechanics and systems, it should be even faster.

RynKen Add a few hours to it, but that's new material and content, and Rabbid didn't indicate that he did any of that. FyrFlyr What's lazy is dropping a game 20 hours in because an hour or two of slight tedium pissed you off.

People always complain about the hunt for the triforce shards because it requires so many rupees and they complain it’s tedious and adds in pointless filler. For me, though, it represented the perfect time in the game for exploring all the islands and mapping all of them. It’s fairly far into the game which means you’re not impeded by item requirements you don’t meet and you not only find maps to shards but you can also find lots of treasure maps for the needed rupees. I look for treasure, explore islands, get heart pieces. I consider it quite nice to take a step away from the quest and just kind of sandbox it for a while

Everyone, please upvote this comment so Rabbidluigi sees this and perhaps will give the Bravely series a second chance. After all, from what he told us in the videos, he´s so close to the end of the first one. And then he might give the second game a chance!

Linebeckable seeing the final parts of a game rarely saves it, the finale may be good but it cannot make the game stand up from the bullshit that the previous chapters were.

Honestly, I really appreciate the effort Wind Waker made you go through to get the triforce pieces. It was a runaround for sure with a bit of busy work, but it wasn't a Metroid-level runaround where you had to backtrack every other place you've gone to already multiple times just for one new room or minor item. It really made a game that wasn't massive (at least compared to today's game standards) feel incredibly in depth in the right ways. It's the same appreciation I had with Ocarina of Time. The first part of the game it teases you to a big world that you're dying to explore, but can't quite do yet. So when you get the chance to, the world is your oyster. Idk, I found a lot of intrigue sailing around and finding ways to get to the heart pieces that you could easily see from the ocean below. As for things like the part where you could hide in barrels and the rope jumping piece (the latter of which admittedly was annoying), I just saw it as a clever way of mixing up the game mechanics--they were their own puzzles, just done in a different way. At least, that's how I felt about them. Who knew rope swings could be so challenging, but at least you got cool shit when you completed it.

Here’s some stories when I stopped playing certain games for a while. When I played Super Mario Galaxy I got super stuck at the Topman fight because I thought pushing him into the electric fence was making him stronger and angrier and activating a secret hard mode. In Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon I had trouble with the clock boss for some reason. In Tomodachi Life I accidentally got my character in a romantic relationship with my cousin because I misspelled the last name while creating her thus accidentally tricking the game into thinking that it wasn’t incest so I took a long break and then days later returned to delete that save file
