India’s external affairs minister S Jaishankar was in the news throughout the year as he brilliantly defended India’s position on not voting against Russia in the United Nations and buying oil from Moscow when the west was imposing sanctions on it. And he also threw a few jabs at our difficult neighbour, Pakistan. In an interview in June, he said that Europe needs to get out of its mindset that its problems are also the world’s problems but the world’s problems are not EU’s.
