It looks like you got most of the fiddley stuff sorted out! Looking good!

Love that manual choke solution. I would love to see you actually creating that setup.
@FranksModelAviationWorkshop3 жыл бұрын
It was fairly easy. Once you have everything clamped together, you just run some solder over the joints making sure not to get any on the threads of the bolts.

Great motor choice...I have a dle 35 in my sbach 342 works perfect every time...

Thanks. This will be my first gasser that I’ll actually fly. I had a 50cc sbach 342 years ago. Never flew it. I love the looks of that plane though.

Very cool! So I am at about the same point building my Top-Flite .60 P40. I have not been working on it for about 4 months. I have not decided on what radio would be the right choice. This is my first build in about 25 years and a lot has changed since I was a teen. The old Futaba 4 Channel just isn't going to cut the mustard on this plane. I also have the DLE .35 Gasser and I went with the Sierra Giant retracts. The air outlet at the back of the cylinder caused me to have remove mor of the wings spar than I would have cared to but I added some reinforcement. Well I could go on and on. I will be following your build to get ideas and avoid mistakes hopefully.

Sounds awesome. A DLE 35 I think is over kill. lol. That thing is going to scream! I’ll be addressing the Sierra retract modification that I’ll be doing on mine in a future video. Thanks for the comment.

Looking Good. Like the details, including your closeup of the tail wheel hardware. I wonder if one of those plastic robart tailwheel retracts would fit easily. When you mentioned black rustoleum, was that to fuel proof the front of the firewall and sheet cowling area? If so, is it gas proof? I know rustoleum 2x is not good with glow fuel, but never tried it with gas.
@FranksModelAviationWorkshop3 жыл бұрын
I don’t think it is, but I epoxied the entire fuel tank area, so I’m mainly painting the black to hide the wood. I think polyurethane over the paint will make it fuel proof.

Question Frank, do u have video of the gas tank and cdi ignition install?
@FranksModelAviationWorkshop7 ай бұрын
Yes. Somewhere in the fuselage build. It’s been too long for me to remember. The ignition is mounted under the top cowl sheeting.
@stevejones90443 жыл бұрын
Lots of progress. Now why did you have to end up rolling the engine mount a bit? Also with the location of the ignition electronics how does that work if you need to replace it? Are you planning on a hatch on the top deck?
@FranksModelAviationWorkshop3 жыл бұрын
The engine mounts as per the plan. I put the ignition there, cause of the room. Plus to add weight to the nose. I can access it through the fuel tank compartment if needed.

Frank, new to building so dumb question , is the prop center on the firewall?
@FranksModelAviationWorkshopАй бұрын
The engine mounts offset to account for right thrust.
@HenryTysonАй бұрын
Ok, thanks for the quick answer. When you look at the nose it's actually offset from ctr. after you shape it. I'm a retired GC so I'm not getting it, sq. plumb and level

Hi I’m, just curious what’s the origin of the P40 hanging on the wall (built up construction) Is it a plan, or kit?
@FranksModelAviationWorkshop3 жыл бұрын
That’s a Guillows laser cut kit. I’m leaving it uncovered, cause I think it looks pretty cool that way. Lol. 👍👍 Kit #405 LC

What size screws did you use for the manual choke assembly?
@FranksModelAviationWorkshop6 ай бұрын
I used the biggest size that fit through the engine mount holes. I think 10/32.

How will you push off the choke if your prop is rotating?
@BayonasRCWorld3 жыл бұрын
Once the engine pops you turn off choke and then continue to start the engine.
@FranksModelAviationWorkshop3 жыл бұрын
It’s like starting a weed eater. Choke on, flip prop till you hear the engine pop, choke off, flip prop till engine starts. The engine won’t run with the choke on. Mike Bayona also chimed in on your question. I hope this helps. Thanks for the comment.
