Right! We all had to just build off the manual and plans. No chance to see others and their build journey

Man....this makes me want to get into this hobby so much....I'm an engineer and love this stuff...love the building of the plane from scratch like this...Do companies make these kits still today?
@BayonasRCWorld2 жыл бұрын
Top Flite the company is no longer in business nor making kits. However there are a few entrepreneurs who has taken the brand Top Flite and rekitted the planes that we all have been wanting but never gotten before the shutdown of Top Flite. Karl Michael Hansen of Planes gone by Hanger is reproducing full kits today.

That’s great. I hate to see this skill set lost….it is very intriguing to me. Especially fiberglassing the kit and painting…you have all kinds of mechanical and electrical engineering going on here…and then you get to fly…any suggestions on how to start? Should I learn to fly first? And then learn to build?
@BayonasRCWorld2 жыл бұрын
@@scott7695 well look at it this way. Back in the 80's if you wanted to learn how to fly you had to build your own plane, outfit it with the electronics, set it up and have a club verify your work before getting it airborne. We'll today is different since alot of Planes are ready to fly getting the newcomers into learning how to fly faster. Also the available flight simulators avail today. Once you get proficient at flying you can then venture into the world of building your first kit. Or do everything like how we did back in the day.

Nice video, why do you have the holes in the Fin and Elevators, is it for weight saving?
@BayonasRCWorld3 жыл бұрын
Yes it is called Lightning holes. The material removed saves weight aft of the aircraft. Especially this model is known to be tail heavy.

Where do you find these kits....and why don't they sell these anymore!
@BayonasRCWorld3 жыл бұрын
Horizon Hobbies bought Hobbico, Tower's Parent company. Top Flite had closed down shop. You can purchase Top Flite kits via Ebay. Or through RC groups from collectors whom are willing to let their stash go.

What are you using for your board to pin the piece’s too?
@BayonasRCWorld3 жыл бұрын
I have a hollow door sitting on top of my hardwood counter top. On top of the hollow door I have a sheet of 5/8" thick drywall or Gypsum board with will accept T-pins nicely while holding down the parts.

How do you drill such perfect lightening holes?
@BayonasRCWorld Жыл бұрын
On the P40 they were already die cut. But on my P51 I cut them out on my own. I used sharp Xacto blade to rough cut then a dremel sanding drum to finish

Hey Mike, first off the Warhawk is bad ass, my question is for sheeting can I use Titebond Quick and Thick
@BayonasRCWorld10 ай бұрын
To be honest I never used the quick and thick adhesive on my builds so I honestly can't answer its true integrity. I have used it for other things in the household. Remember that quick and thick is more of a PVA adhesive and not waterproof so using it other than for interior use might be catastrophic (maybe) however you would be better off using Titebond III or II for sheeting and or full frame assembly minus high stress areas like firewalls, landing gear plated, stab and fin attachments to fuse etc. In those areas I use 30 min epoxy.
@HenryTyson8 ай бұрын
Hey Mike did you glue or epoxy that joiner wire in the hole and the groove you made?
@BayonasRCWorld8 ай бұрын
Yes. Scuff up the areas of the wire that sits into the groove and hole then secure with 30 min epoxy.

Enjoying your build video. I'am hoping to start my P-40E Top Flite kit soon. I think you said you are going to use Robart electric retracts. Which one are you considering ?
@BayonasRCWorld3 жыл бұрын
Yeah about Robart! I talked to Danny from Robart and they are completely out of stock on the 615E and the 815RSE. There is a waiting list as well and orders will be made according to that list. No definite time frame as well! Therefore I have been looking at Eflite 60-120 95 deg electric retracts and so far others has used it in their TF P40 kit as well with good results. The other option is Sierra Giant Scale they have pneumatic retracts for the 60 size P40 so that is a option if you line pneumatic.
