I recommend creating copies of the Run activity for specific types of runs, such as parkruns, easy runs, long runs. You can then set unique alerts for each type of run, whether you want auto lap alerts, and which data screens you want (and in what order) for each activity. For an easy run, you may be interested in staying in Zone 2, so set a high HR alert for Z2, set the alert frequency to 1 minute and customize a HR zone data screen. For intervals, you may choose to have no alerts, but may want to prioritize pace, power and HR data in one data screen. If you use headphones, you can have most of this data narrated to you without having to look at your watch all the time.
@garethjones84666 ай бұрын
That's a really clever idea, didn't know you could do that. I have a series of configured screens within the Run activity which I use for different run sessions. Now I can have dedicated activities!

One I recently found was creating a random course. press on the three dots at bottom right corner (more); press on training and planning then courses. press "create course" - then "running". next screen is Drawing Method - press "automatic" - select your distance and direction, and then press next. It will ask you for your starting position and then it creates a course . Drag up the bottom screen and you can set your pace and/or goal time. Never knew that one existed. There is bound to be more that I didn't know about on the Garmin

I really wish that Garmin would add "time only" on the training target. Sometimes I don't want to do a set distance in a time, but just to run for 60 or 90 minutes, It would be great to have this on the screen as a countdown so that you can turn round on an out and back, as well as see how many kms you're covering.

Ever tried AutoLap in "Position" mode? Most people probably use the "Distance" mode set to 1 mi or 1 km. Using the "Position" mode counts a new round whenever you pass the starting position. Add a data field for rounds and you will never ever be confused about number of rounds made in the park or stadium. Kind regards and thanks for the video. 😊

I came out of covid with a form of exercise induced asthma. And because of meniscus surgery on both knees, I'm only doing no more than three and a half miles now. I do look at my watch a lot because I'm focusing on my heart rate in my pace. If my heart rate is too high and my pace is too low I slow down. So pace and heart rate are two things that I focus on

@@Enoch-Root, I go the Coros Apex as I started running (2.5 years ago) and switched to Garmin 255 last December. I really loved the Garmin Coach as it brought me to structured running training. I am currently subscribed to one of the coaches there directly, so I don’t use their feature directly. I guess it depends on what we want from our watches, but I am happy I’ve switched to Garmin when I did. Sometimes is hard to know which features are personally useful until you try them. I really PacePro as well, although I used it only twice as a pacer.
@LuNa4Death6 ай бұрын
@@Enoch-Root that's fair, but also let's put it this way. If they do other brands it will show an unbiased opinion and if Garmin is the better option for features then it will let us as viewers (consumers) see it for ourselves plus sprinkle in additional credibility to their videos. Although, lets be real, I trust them with my training so I do trust their opinions very much already. 💃🏼

Another battery saver for long runs when navigating is the track orientation - the default is to always track up (so that the heading big always points in the direction of travel, but this causes the screen to redraw a lot more often). Change it to "track north", which means that 12 o'clock on your watch is always North. Takes a bit of getting used to when running in a southerly direction but it saves some battery life 😉😎
@wk6336 ай бұрын
oh that's brilliant!

Did anyone test how much battery will be saved?
@SVpedro686 ай бұрын
@@AckerQ. I thought someone had done but a quick search seems to mostly throw up anecdotal evidence, so I may give it a try at some point as I am genuinely intrigued. I much prefer track up but it seems to make sense that constant screen redraws would drain the battery more than just redrawing the pointer and moving the screen according to distance travelled, but I use track north just to save battery life. I'd love to know how much battery I'm saving 🤔😊
