Bloody heck, the Corsa was more expensive than a Polo back then if what Jeremy says the Clio was £2100 less and £1600 less than a Polo. So Vauxhall must've been rippin the pee pee outta the old-gen Corsa at that time. Plus the new shape Corsa wasn't out until something like 2000 so it was essentially the slightly updated 1993 2nd gen that was out in 1997 when the Clio came out. A good car we had 2 but what a difference in price. The Polo was still on it's 1994-2000 gen though that is a good car. Plus the Fiesta was still on the slightly updated 1989 version (itself a lineage back to the 1976 original and even then the 1997 version was based on the same basic floorplan and platform, probably the entry level Fiesta he compared the prices on all ye got was the ancient 1.3 Kent/Valencia "Endura-E" series engine I think with only 5 more hp than the 1.2 Energy Renault engine. Practically no competition at this point, the Renault had more standard equipment, it looked more modern (though that's personal preference), it was cheaper and it was probably abit safer than anything bar the Polo (dunno how well that did in EuroNCAP at the time). Of course it might've had a cheap and nasty feeling build to it but then what did ye expect?

MotionPlays i did it twice on a roads, one time was a tractor and i had to redline it in 2nd to get past, the other time i did a micra in 4th gear but the micra almost pulled away XD, i hit 90 in it once though, obviously not on a single carridgeway! it was quite comfortable though, just wasn't very efficient, needed a slightly bigger engine to be economical

Get the 2 litre RenaultSport Clio! You can pick them up for around £1,000. You will be amazed! Not only do they overtake virtually EVERYTHING; they can also do it at up to around 140mph! I take my unmodified RenaultSport Clio on Track Days and have a blast with it!

Surprised face and saggy bottom... haha true and the 1.2 is dog slow. 172 and 182 RenaultSport versions are still legends though. Left the competition for dead when they were new.

I have a 172. Totally unmodified... and I take it on Track Days. 40 - 60 in 3rd isn't a problem! 140mph isn't a problem either!
