Had '93 VR6. Bought new, traded in on a Passat wagon at 10 yrs/ 213,000 miles. Made me smile every time. Stupidly fast, traction control a hoot in heavy rain. Solo racing once - same times as the "5.0" liter Mustang ahead of me. A good driver would have done better. Saw 130mph once, it had more, I didn't. I couldn't use more than 8/10s, except the brakes :^) Perfect for family with small child. Carried 6 foot Christmas tree inside AND family. Steamclean fouled up electrics. :^( I still miss it.

I love my '90 G60 Corrado. Just finished a 5000 mile road trip in the old boy. People are all about the SLC version with the VR6 but I'll take my G60 any day. I love the shake of the 4 cylinder at idle and I can average as high as 34 mpg. Everything in that car feels right from the weight of the steering to the brakes. That silver G60 is a beauty.

Just had my Corrado G60 burned out. Some shortcircuit in the back while i was on the highway, only noticed it when the smoke started to fill my car as the fire was in the back. It was probably old wiring as the car was in almost new shape but had some electric issues with the lights in the cabin and trunk after I had the rear repainted. I watched it being burned starting from a small fire in the back to completely being destroyed by the fire. It broke my heart but still I want a new one. It happened a few days ago and I already miss the car, or even looking at it while it was parked. The engine is indestructible and mine had over 260 K miles on it. I had it for 13 years and once it got proper maintenance, I went through the yearly MOT without a hitch. It drives fantastic and the sound is so good, every week someone would walk up to me to tell me they love these cars as they look awesome as well. I'm thinking of buying a VR6 now, Once you've driven these cars combined with the looks, it's fantastic. Plus the good ones maintain their value. One of the coolest productioncars ever made and VW did indeed know what they were doing. Ich lieb dich, mein Corrado. Too bad it needed a war to build this great car.

I also had a ‘90 G60. I know what you mean. I wish I still had that car. Mine was blue. People would drive behind me to watch the spoiler go up and down! I needed a larger car and traded for the Classic Green Passat GLX. I wish I could have afforded to have both then.

Still miss my VR6. Put a smile on my face every time I turned the key. Left it absolutely stock - all the idiots who chipped them and changed the airboxes, stuck bigger alloys on them etc. soon regretted it. It was perfect. More lift off oversteer than I've ever experienced on any other car. Was epic
@lnichols877 жыл бұрын
Mine is chipped, airbox mod, exhaust, raised compression, all kinds of suspension work. Its smooth like butter and runs miles better than stock. And might I add i get 33mpg on the highway. I love it!

I'm getting a 2.9 vr6 in white next week, I can't wait! My favourite car as a kid was a porsche 944. I'd never even seen a corrado until 2 weeks ago. The back reminds of the 944. Definitely think the rado looks better. I love having rare cars, also got a 3 litre merc 500 sel. Now I just need a delorean and a 944.

I had a 1992 SLC with beige leather interior in Dark Burgundy Wine color. I swapped out the stock BBS rims for 17" Fittipaldi Polaris metal polish wheels, a K&N knockoff intake, and a Techtonics tuning chip. The car used to turn heads all the time. I miss my old baby.

I owned a G60 Corrado from about 2000 to 2003. Loved the car, hated the maintenance bills-- cost a lot to keep on the road. Lived in fear of the G-charger self-destructing, as so many did after 120-150Kkm-- instantly turning the nimble beast into a poorly aspirated 1.8L plodder until you can pony up the three grand for a new one. The VR6 model was really the Corrado's best form.
@lacqpa3 жыл бұрын
I've owned à 16v 1987 golf GTI and à 16v 1987 Scirroco and they were à blast to drive. Now almost 30 years later I got my hands on a 1990 G60 Corrado and it is just amazing, The range of power is phenomenal for a 1.9 liter 4 cylindres. I will keep this one for many years and enjoy it !!

There’s a highly modified Corrado with Euro plates that has sat outside a storage lot in my area for about 15 years. It was mint at first but now very rough. It’s rumored that it was brought back by a Navy sailor who was stationed in Germany and later killed in Afghanistan. It is very sad to see, but the lot owner doesn’t want to sell.

@jsuttonus Virtually every front drive hatch out there does that. Every golf gti including the current version, the focus rs, clio sport 200, civic type r etc all lift their inside rear under hard cornering. It does look scary but actually in a front driver where 75% of the weight is in the front it helps the car turn in and minimise understeer.

@MrRoboto305 Standard operating procedure in the Corrado :) Mine lifts when entering driveways. It's a function of the rear torsion beam suspension design, stiffer than most non-sport versions (base model golf/jetta, etc)

My dad and I have always loved the Corrado, although I've always felt we were somewhat of a minority in that opinion. I nearly bought one in '94 but it was used versus getting a new Golf. My parents were concerned about repairs so I ended up with the Golf. It had the 1.8 litre, an automatic, and did 0-60 in about 14 seconds (no exaggeration). Somehow I don't think I got the better car. :( This design still looks great to me today!

@gsxrful 16v is the base model naturally aspirated 4 cylinder (not available in the US I think), G60 4 cylinder supercharged is faster, then there's the vr6 witch is a v6 more powerful (slightly) but heavier. G60 is the best imho but others will bring up some of the reliability problems of the G60's supercharger.

Right. Looks like maybe the rubber stop was adjusted too high on that side, or maybe the sprung catch. Another giveaway is that the redline on the tach is too high - on the production model it's at 6200, same place Tiff complains about the rev limiter kicking in.

£19k new, seems quite expensive for the early 90s, when you consider a new civic type r was only 16k 10 years later. You can only dream of getting a new fast coupe or hot hatch for that sort of money now tho.

I own a 1990 Corrado G60 and I wish my father did his homework before buying from the previous owner. I honestly love my car but I wish we have the money to maintain it. Right now it sits in the work shop for an oil spill from the transmission. Then we had to replace the clutch because the design for this one is unsual from the rest. And now the starter of the car isn't even working.

Why the G60 vs the VR6? I'm looking for one as well but I don't get the pros and cons of going with one or the other. I know the G60 is supercharged but isn't there more potential with the VR6? Either way, I'm just looking for one in good shape. Looking still unfortunately.
@davidhayes48147 жыл бұрын
It is hard to compare the Corrado with either the new or older Sciroccos. All Sciroccos were, in their time, similarly priced to top end Golfs. The Corrado was always relatively expensive. The gorgeous VR6 existed when Golf GTi's were not so good. It went out of production, partially, because of insurance problems. They were expensive to insure. The first Scirrocco was updated in early 80s and spoiled. One thing is for sure though, the Corrado was so much better than the dynamically challenged (although pretty) Vauxhall Calibra, with which it "competed".
