What still bothers me is how Mavrick survived the explosion because going from mach 10 to an abrupt stop will make you explode instantly

I am guessing it wasn't an abrupt stop, probably some sort of safety capsule design to slow down the pilot to a manageable speed. Mach 10 is about half the speed that astronauts from low earth orbit re-enter the atmosphere. Basically what my imagination thinks the design was: is the cockpit in it's entirety breaks off from the plane, then once it slows down enough, the pilot is safely ejected.

@enjoyingend1939 I can see how that makes since but, the space capsules have parachutes that slow them, but in the movie, you can see no parachute deployment and just a bright blue explosion, and regarding the abrupt stop, what I ment was going from something at hypersonic speed propelling you to no longer propelling you, and since you cannot naturally maintain mach 10 without a promotion, it would slow down very quickly, but could there have been a parachute, mabye, was it a abrupt stop, by no means

When Maverick ejects, it's actually detaching the entire cockpit section, with him inside, while the explosion seen is the rest of the airframe and engines burning up.

Lockheed Martin’s Advanced Development Programs ( Skunk Works by pseudonym) borrowed elements from three US Air Force aircraft as I can see at a glance. The body of the darkstar is a cross between SR-71 [Blackbird]- the nose of the aircraft and B2 Spirit bomber- of the wings and engines look similar to f-22 Raptor’s. And to the Skunk Works credit they as agency designed the SR-71 [Blackbird] , and F-22 Raptor. It’s a well paid homage to the past designers of these two aircraft’s that their designs became basis of a fictional manned aircraft that can fly 10 times the speed of sound. Truly amazing ❤🎉 👏👏👏

l' aereo che si vede nel film dovrebbe essere il prototipo del aurora che avrebbe dovuto sostituire l' SR 71 BLACK BIRD ma non fu mai costruito. questo è quello che lessi tantissimi anni fa su una rivista specializzata in aerei militari

The only problem I have with the scene is conceptual, it's just not what the Navy gets involved in. High mach development is for NASA, the intelligence community, and the Air Force, not the Navy.
