14:45 people forget how great of an actor Tom Cruise really is. The scene was emotional, short and perfect knowing Val Kilmer's real life complications with throat cancer. Love that scene so much.

The scene where the jet lifted the roof off the building was actually the only take they got of that because it did actually blow the roof off and ruined that set piece...

Hangman got off the luckiest shot ever at the end. Not only did the Su-57 pilot not know he was under missile lock, but Hangman's shot managed to destroy the jet and smoke the missile at the same time.

Hangman is the quinessental pilot you may not like how he behaves or his arrogance but it is what is needed to be a successful pilot (you are flying the jet by yourself) and the edge needed to fly. All he did was expose Rooster's weakness that kept him from being great, when Hangman exposed it,, got Rooster out of his own way to become a great pilot.. Hangman may operate good on his own as most pilots do in the Navy... but on the ground he is and made Rooster (along with Maverick) a team player.

Hangman is the best pilot out of the group. He is always on mission and he addresses the elephant in the room.

Considering a lot of military promotions are still a combination of right place/right time saying he's still a captain is not really an insult to his career as a Navy captain is the equivalent of an AIrforce or Army full colonel. There are so many good scenes, make that excellent scenes, in this movie. This is the standard all sequels should aim for.

14:02 You talk about your old man that way, you get a broken jaw? Tell me, what exactly did Hangman say about Rooster's dad that was disrespectful? That's simple, because he said virtually nothing about his dad other than he was flying with Maverick when he was killed. For all of Hangman's arrogance and stuck up attitude, most of the stuff he says is absolutely on point. When he says that his wing man couldn't keep up, he was right. Because not only was he himself not fast enough, his wing man was even slower. And what happened with Maverick and Goose, it wouldn't have ever been a secret, had it been for real. It was an unfortunate accident that cost a pilot his life. And it would've been studied by every aviator that went to Top Gun, and probably beyond to every aviator pilot from the Navy to the Air Force , just to ensure it doesn't happen again. That's how it works with airplane crashes. They are studied at length repeatedly. But lets say it was as it is in the movie, and it's somehow an unknown and forgotten incident....There's nothing wrong with Hangman bringing it up because it is a concern and an unnecessary distraction to a very important mission that can afford none. Again, if this was real, both Maverick and Rooster would need to fix this issue quick fast and in a hurry, or they would need to be removed from the mission.

They said that GPS was being jammed over the target. This could be a case of newer technology not necessarily being better than what it replaced, or also being too dependent on one thing. The original Tomahawk missiles used a combination of interial navigation and photo-referencing. The latter was photos of the route and target were stitched into a route map and fed into the computer on the missile. It had a camera it used to take pictures of the ground it was flying over. It then compared what it was seeing with its programmed route and made corrections, along with input from the interial navigation system. It was very accurate. If they still used that, they could have used those. Upgraded with forward-looking camera it would be even better. However, it probably could take the Gs for some of those maneuvers, so they'd probably need to send in first waves to take out at least some of the AA-missiles.

Top Gun: Maverick and Top Gun are two of my favorite movies. Another one of my favorite movies you should react to is The Final Countdown (1980) The U.S.S. Nimitz goes back to December 6th, 1941. It's filmed on the Nimitz.

The actors actually flew in this one with cockpit cameras, and Tom Cruise also actually piloted. Penny Benjamin was talked about in the first film. Val Kilmer's voice was not really his in this film.

Ship uses a catapult to launch plane..why they can launch off a short runway... Maverick emulated that process with the thrust, brake, and wings out; those conditions...sort of.

Basically, when you stand on the brakes and run up to full power, it's so that the engines are at stable thrust before brake release. That ensures no spool up time needed on the takeoff roll. It does shorten takeoff distance though.....although not to the extent of the movie.....but it is still cool.

Why did you squish the picture? The last time I've watched your channel, the picture was fine... The Carrier has a sling shot for fast take offs, the taxiways are too short for that. Your reaction is great, though.

Just about to start watching but just wanted to say that i totally disagree with whoever said you dont need to have watched the first one. This movie would not feel the same if you didnt have the connection with goose etc

Yeah, there are soooooooooooooo many callbacks and references to the first one that it definitely is better to have seen Top Gun before watching this. I saw both movies in cinema 36 years apart and this was an awesome sequel. Everything went perfectly. So many sequels are less than spectacular.

The enemy country HAS to be Iran! The United States has been working to isolate Irans nuclear program and Iran is the ONLY country in the world that still has and uses operational F-14 Tomcats.

No, it doesn't. Just because Iran HAVE F-14s, does not mean they are being suggested as the enemy in the film. The enemy nations in both movies were left ambiguous on purpose by the writers.

@@yxeaviationphotog It was left ambiguous to avoid political backlash. The ONLY flyworthy F-14s' are in Irans air force. That and we are still trying to deal with their desire to have nuclear weapons by diplomatic means augmented by sanctions. However, it is only a movie, not a documentary or training film, and that said you can establish the aggressor rogue country as Canada if you want to. I choose Iran as the bad guy. 1st amendment!
