As someone who works in the industry as an Architectural Engineer who specializes in millwork. I can say I'm seeing a lot of bleached woods with a natural finish. Like a matte clear finish. Rift cut bleached walnut is especially popular. It seems like almost every new project calls for bleached walnut. Darker countertops seem to be coming back as well. Black Calacatta is super popular right now. Painted cabinets seem to be going away as well in place of woods in a more traditional style. I'm seeing a lot less contemporary kitchens and a lot more of a traditional/ornate style. Lots of crown moulding especially crown in layers. In a recent kitchen I worked on the cabinets had crown with a bulkhead built above it with more crown attached to the bulkhead and then further up on the ceiling was more crown. It sounds like it would be busy but the final product was actually pretty amazing.

First, I did the lower cabinets of my kitchen in Behr’s Carbon black in high gloss. This was a year ago. This year, I’ve finally got the courage to extend this color into our open concept living room with a vaulted ceiling. Today, I’m doing the inside of the front door and all the door/window trim, black. Just taking a break to eat and watch this video! It’s already feeling more cohesive. The prior look was color drenched in a masking tape cream color. It felt too wide open. Like a Vegas casino or something. The Carbon is a nice contrast with the cream. The rest of the space has either dark wood or cream furniture. Trying not to have a lot of little things too high contrast to avoid that cluttered feeling! No one likes too many little high contrast things nagging at the eyes!

Colour drenching is classic my childhood home from the 60s every room was coloured wrenched as you say and I have followed through in most of the rooms or I also love a different turn on the ceiling light light blue plus some ceilings are beamed and I do light blue between the beams which gives the feeling of space height and sky. Also remember a white ceiling can appear to be white but I actually have a hint of pink is very pretty and flattering or yellow like sunshine or blue like the sky another colour drenching is simply do the ceiling the same colour as the walls but the lighter tint not new to me but may be new to some readers. ❤

Forget trends. They change. You buy a house. You build a home one piece at a time. Instant design, fill a house with stuff, is never money well spent. Buy quality. Buy unique. Buy something that means something to you. Thrift stores are full of poor consumer choices. I have furniture as old as 1780 and I have new furniture as well. It all works together because it is all beautiful, functional, and well-made. Focus on finding your own style. Build your home. Stop thinking about resell. You live there. You need to love it and feel comfortable. Personally, I am not going to slide back the door to watch tv. Everyone has one. Spend you money on something that's going to transform your life, not complicate it.

Are you saying mixing patterns is trendy? That is Interior Decor 101 basic rule. Mixing bold patterns has always being around since Decor has existed so. I am not sure if you really mean the way it is done NOW that is trendy? The trick is knowing how to do it with visual fluidity, precisely. I love a themed room and ethnic, cultural stuff has always been the staple on real, Bohemian look ( not that bastardized version you see on Instagram), and it is seen as decor items, not props.

Cultural appropriation?!! Great design uses elements From all different cultures. What is going on when I have to have the correct ancestry to collect African art? Is there a level of blackness I mean whats the ratio that would allow me in my own home to use black Or even african elements in my design? And is a racially pure black woman allowed to decorate her home in a colonial style. Each persons background especially if they are well traveled is influenced by many cultures. What is going on when we are punished for our design choices based upon some Persons notion of what is racist? Art is about good design and freedom to choose and incorporate elements not by their gender or racial background . I am sure you will say oh this woman was censored because why ? What does her skin color have to do with the design Of her house. Personally I grew up in Trinidad. I paint black people. It is part of my history. Freedom of expression is more important for an artist Than air

JUST STOP!

The problem is how its displayed. if you saw the video the content creator has hanging chains under the neck of a tribal mask..... Seems pretty coded to me, and the internet even agreed - it was pretty quickly taken down.
@rebelliousravenАй бұрын
Racial appropriation is just BS. The chains in that bathroom were wrong because it was just mean and nasty. Anyone in the US (other than a straight white Christian male) could scream racial appropriation. I have friends from many cultures -my African American bestie who braided my hair (traditionally) for my wedding; my Muslim friend who gifted my daughter a beautiful hijab; my native American friend who gave me the gorgeous beaded bracelet I rarely take off or my jewish son in law who hung a lovely mezuza to bless our door. The only people I actually hear throwing this term around are woke white people. The expression and SHARING of different cultures and their elements is what makes America a wonderful place. Tons of routine words, items, practices once "belonged" to another culture. It's time to give this up as the nonsense it is.

@@mrphoenixgreyyou are still talking about censoring someones work based upon Symbolic elements in someones private home.
