I have always loved classic traditional design, but my favorite is about 80% traditional mixed with 20% modern. I love the Parisian apartment with traditional millwork and fireplaces mixed with a few modern pieces. I would love advise on how to mix the two styles successfully.

I have always loved transitional/traditional décor with a contemporary twist. I like having the clean lines of a simple sofa combined with some traditional items. More/maximalist does not have to mean clutter. Blending your classic pieces with beautiful accessories that give you joy will create an inviting home that you love.

It should never mean clutter. It's an art to fill a place with numerous woods, fabrics, art, and colors and have it all look good. You need a really good eye and restraint.

Apparently, I am WAY ahead of the trends! My home is decorated in toile, buffalo plaid, ornate light fixtures, busts, oriental rugs, sterling silver, china, etc. I am a maximalist to the max, never stopped, and I am SO excited to have everyone else come along and embrace the beauty with me!

I had all that, and now selling a lot of it, and replacing maximalist decor with minimalist decor. I love the blacks, whites and grays with light beiges & pops of nature like trees, throw pillows in Sherpa, caramel velvet Scandinavian vases with branches that bring sculptural figures, carrera marble and simplicity that has pieces that can be changed from room to room, such as during a holiday, seasonally, or just doing something differently. 💙💙

I think people need to find a style that brings them joy then stay with it until it doesn’t. Stop being so drawn in by passing styles and designs. Just because a group of people say THIS is this year’s style, it doesn’t mean you have to pack up all the things you love just to jump on that bandwagon. I finally found my style a few years ago and have never felt so happy, content, and comfy in my home as I am now. I don’t have a name for my style. It’s a little bit of the styles that have come and gone and I absolutely love it. Everyone that walks in my home for the first time love the look and feel. They say it’s so warm, so inviting and so comfy. I created some of my own art, bought a beautiful pre-loved Pottery Barn sectional sofa for $900 ($5500 new), and have just collected beautiful items here and there for very little but it looks beautiful. Just do you. Let your heart and soul tell you how to decorate your home. Influencers are great and they’re fun to watch but, they can’t tell you what’s going to make you feel like you want to feel in your home. Only you can do that. Happy new year💖

SO SO SO Happy that the Ralph Lauren, English/Scottish country, old world earthy foundations, and French chateau style are back!!! I just could never part with the cashmere plaids, wool tartans and rugs, tanned wood millwork and wall panels, rich quality leathers, tapestry and silk draperies, cream marble and black granites, brass and iron candlesticks, fine china, heavy cut crystal, etc. Some of us just would not let it go! Finely detailed Plaster walls!!!! We are back! Feeling I don't need to buy anything and finely back in style. 🤣 WOO HOO! Valentina, you are spot on about the coldness, emptiness of minimalism, gray, white, silver, sterile, depressing, and gloom. Also, about the constant, just buy a new home and furnishings every 5 years, are over. We are going into more difficult times, and I think people are done with trending fashion, keeping up with the Jones's, and what is cool at the moment. It is selfish marketing. It is not sustainable or good for our environments and planet. We want lasting classic style. We are back to living in our homes with textures, warmth, touch-ability, and visually interesting patterns and timeless high-end collectibles. I would hit the love button on this video if KZbin had one.

I have been going towards English countryside the past few years. I never got rid of my mother's and grandmother's inherited furniture because I like the warm, dark tones but I've added new lighter tones and the blend together is more interesting than having all the same wood tones. I have to chuckle, as I have not been financially able to totally change my decor with the minimalist era… still have beautiful patterned linen curtains, stacks of books, inherited furniture and oil paintings. However, the minimalism informed how I have carried it out in recent times with more modern art here and there, lighter colors and sleeker light fixtures. I truly love the mixing of these styles and am thrilled that the enduring classics are making their deserved comeback!

I have lived in an absolutely stunning 1902 Victorian home for 10 years and my goal was to respect and honor it's original intended design while also keeping it relevant & updated in regards to paint colors, all new wallpapers, classic yet fun rugs, beautiful window treatments... I mix true antiques with new, I include high/low pieces. Lots of art work, we've added tons of art lights (really 'elevates' a space). The house was dark when we moved in with tons of dark beautiful woodwork. Simply changing out the wallpapers completely lightened up the rooms and it has turned out beyond my dreams. I am like you, I absolutely LOVE my home and feel so wonderful with every glance. Anyway...I could go on and on. My advice to younger people is take your time in your space before trying to make it perfect, let it evolve and build and then it will become a truly collected home with cherished items you would never consider trading in. Love you Valentina, you are always a breath of fresh air.

You have a unique style in your own category with more character in your design than any other, classic or otherwise. You are the cool woman in every way! When our grandma en grandpa passed away almost nobody wanted the oil painings, crystal glasses, the golden clock, the dark wooden table and the golden lamp. Some friends said it was old fashioned and it didn't belong in a modern household. We found ourselves (as a couple in their end twenties) explaining why we didn't jump on the next big trend.. I am so glad we did keep all these things. They have so much emotional meaning and family history to them. These things coming into fashion again just proves to me that you should avoid trends all togheter when you can. This way you can achieve your personal and timeless style better. I would love to see how you incorporate these styles in the modern everyday home with accessible accessoires.

Elevate, elevate and yes black is stunning-I’ve just done mouldings, a tin ceiling, built ins, a brass nautical chandelier and painted my husbands office in green black. Valentina, I’ve always been obsessed with old and anything i’ve tried new, never did it leave me obsessed as I am with the really classic-mix old and clean lines, dramatic with subtle you’ve got the 3.16=perfect balance, scientifically perfect.

Love the max, warmer wood tones, millwork. My father just passed and I have inherited quite a few silver items that I just love and was lamenting how noone wants to use fine china, crystal etc anymore. Maybe there is hope!

So excited to see where this goes, Valentina! Relocated to another state 4 years ago and love my newer home but have been struggling with whatever my style is. I always trend towards French Country and Transitional but really want to take this "farmhouse" structure and soften it up with trim, molding, wallpaper, and soft color. Recently retired so now have the time to embrace my abode so that I can enjoy it for years to come. Happy 2023!

I LOVE this. It’s like the difference between being interested in fashion (the ‘it’ bag, the right designer, the current shape of jeans or hemline) and being interested in style (the perfect basic t shirt, the battered old leather jacket that fits just right). I’m so inspired!

Could not agree more about finding a classic style and pieces that I love-“the capsule home”. I appreciate how you share finding peace out of the angst of trend following. I love trends and add accessories here and there, but I also have “early attic” pieces that were family hand-me-downs that I would have never bought. For example, I have my mother in law’s old china cabinet, but bought my own clean-lined dining table and side board. So, I put some leopard print fabric in the cabinet as a background and modernized the old, traditional piece. Now, I love it and have embraced the eclecticism of the mix. As I watch videos of all these incredibly famous designers’ homes, that’s what they almost always do. Have fun!

I am so pleased to learn that the traditional English and French style is back! I just love the type of design that tells a story of quality and style that has lasted through the years; a home that is filled with beautiful fabrics, oil paintings, books and personal items which tell the story of the family who lives there. I have to be honest and tell you that I stopped watching your channel last year since I really didn't enjoy the scaled back clean-lined Scandinavian style - I find it sterile and devoid of personality (despite being a Swede myself). Now I'm back to your channel and looking forward to the new content. Happy New decorating year:)

I’m loving your focus on surrounding yourself with things you love, things that you want to actually keep for years to come. My husband and I have spent many years collecting the pieces in our home and I pride myself on investing in pieces that can be moved from room to room - for example an antique dresser that looks as at home in a living or dining room as it does in a bedroom. I love to “shop my home” when I’m accessorizing and see what objects can be moved into a new space when I’m redecorating for each new season. When the things you own come with stories like the little antique shop in Scotland or the summer flea market in Pennsylvania that you found them in they bring a kind of warmth into your home that enhances everything around it.

I love how emotional you are when speaking about style. As a realtor I love to encourage my clients to make a home speak to and for them. It should reflect their style. I agree with welcoming the beauty of trim and more vintage elements with neutral! Texture can be wonderful! But also having a place to rest your eyes between elements and texture is what I believe gives us a sense of peace and that home feel. Loved this video ❤

Finally back to true decorating !We should not be following trends but surround ourselves with pieces we love , antique pieces with longevity and often hand made or hand painted. A home should reflect the interests and taste of the owners and tell a story with pieces collected over the years. Accessories can be either expensive or high-end, old or new as long as we connect to them. The paired down look and minimalism have left people with cold interiors and feel very impersonal. I am glad I kept all my classical furniture and ornate accessories, Happy to see you are veering away from the current blah look! Also some of your viewers might like following “ the potted boxwood” and Sophie Patterson on u- tube, the homes featured are breathtaking, modern but still incorporate classicism and traditional style. (I loved your old pieces in your home they balanced the modern part of your house. )Valentina just follow your heart and keep showing us what makes you excited about design. Great video I too am waiting to see where 2023 takes you. Happy new year!

Ah yes, the Potted Boxwood, my guilty pleasure! I am so happy to hear that these styles are coming back "in" (I've always decorated this way) but I am now distressed that my beloved vintage and antique stores will go empty overnight, lol. I understand the appeal (but not the high price tags ) of CB2 and other cookie-cutter stores and styles, but for me, I crave character, originality and bespoke furniture! Bring on 2023!

YEA!!! The best news, I'm so happy to hear this. I love English and French country, and "curated" more is more! Bring on the details, the layers, patterned drapery, beautiful florals, library walls and telling your story. This is a home that can take some time to come together but it is so inviting and warm. Minimalism is a much quicker style to put together so I get why it appeals to the masses. I agree with the statement; "It's not hoarding if it's good stuff!" Great video, it makes my day.

I’m SO obsessed with the dark academia, elegant, sophisticated style. Growing up I couldn’t stand this look, funnily enough. I recently started working at my state’s Capitol building and fell in love with its rich, ornate feel. This is such a refreshing change from the gray and white neutral that dominated for years (which i also loved for some time)! I also love a beautiful neutral home, so I’ve been going for more of the California Casual aesthetic! It’s characterized by light, airy neutrals combined with vintage pieces like aged brass, washed out navy, plum, and wine, and varied wood tones that result in a home that feels tidy and cozy at the same time.

Gosh, reading all the comments.. Apparently I'm not the only one who likes classic, traditional, old world whatever you want to call it!😄 I have always liked neutral tones because you can always add pop of color or a little trendy thing if needed. I am so glad I didn't get on the grey wagon! I told my husband all these folks getting rid of their families beautiful all wood furniture (not partical board crap) are going to be so sorry.. and will be going to antique shops trying to recreate family heirlooms. So sad! You have to be practical.. not to much cluttered but really hold onto valuable timeless things for the long haul. Bravo Valentina! Lets make our homes layered and wonderfully cozy!❤

It’s so nice to calm down, and not rush out to buy stuff because we can. It’s reassuring to me to choose high quality items that will last. I’ve lived outside the US and experienced the joys of living without the obsession to “keep up’ with other’s choices.

New year, new trends, new coffee cup! Valentina knows the right way to adapt trends to make long lasting appeal. Cozy, approachable, long lasting - speaking my language. The reference to such credited books is amazing and reminder to keep those classic pieces to switch out throught the years (yes I need to bring out my Waterford too). Going warmer also with my house refresh.

BLACK is an absolute must in EVERY room. I have had all the doors 14:08 in my house painted black foe several years. Makes builder grade doors look far better. Trim moldings match the wall color only glossy. Change white lamp shades to black…really makes lamps look better. Black accessories also elevate your style. #loveblack
