A LOT of studio executives passed on this script because they couldn't get past this element, but it's played off so innocently that it's one of the things that gives the movie charm. Lea Thompson deserves a lot of credit for that.

Wrong! Most passed because they didn't think it was Raunchy ENOUGH. Only Disney passed because of the car "incest". Get your facts straight!

You're right. BTTF was written during the raunchy, R-Rated "teenagers get laid" comedies that flooded the market in the early 80's (Porkys, Losin' it..). Studio execs wanted the same.

pfft, I was RAISED on these movies. I was born IN 1985 and I don't remember a time where we weren't watching these. I obviously didn't pick up on what was going on in these scenes until way later but by then it was just funny to me lol.

How about being FIFTEEN in 1985 watching this in the theaters...sitting next to my Mom. That's not, "One day we'll look back on this and laugh," it's "One day we'll look back on this, chuckle nervously and change the subject."

People are just too dumb, that's all. Who, in normal life, would think that a boy YOUR OWN AGE, would be your offspring and you were attracted to that person? People judge because the viewers know the truth but if the viewers didn't know know at the time, they'd all be mad at Marty for not making any moves accusing him of being gay or something

OK, look. I'm saying this again to those viewers who get all freaked out screaming "incest!". Quit putting what YOU know into the movie characters knowledge. Lorraine just thinks he is some boy. She wouldnt have any clue about the future. How can you not see that? Marty avoids her as best he can because he DOES know. If Marty actually pursued her thru some Oedipal complex, the movie wouldnt have been released. From Gen X: y'all youngins need to take a valium on this issue, really.

You should read "Time Enough for Love" by the Godfather of Hard Science Fiction, Robert A. Heinlein (Starship Troopers), boy if you think what Marty goes through is awkward you should give this book a try, and Heinlein wrote in 1973.

It would only be weird if he was into it knowing that's his mother. What makes it funny is that his mother lied and said she never chased boys when she was in her youth. It's basically a parent lying to their children which is always going to be a thing when raising them if certain questions or situations come up.
