We need more card draw for the other decks. That'll activate a lot. Giving Psychic decks both Sigilyph and Slab was just unfair and made the whole meta revolve around how to shut Mewtwo EX down. The only reason all these other decks are somehow succeeding against it, is because all of them were made with it in mind, and everything else was added to assist against other decks.

Great video! Nothing really to critique: the graphics make sense and are easy to understand as well as your explanations. I appreciate the video length not being too short and glossing over things but not going so in the weeds that it feels like a lecture. Hi Jeff, recent listener to your yt vids on PTCG Pocket, I mostly watch you livestream some decks. What caught my interest was the similarities of playing non-meta decks and the analytical commentary while playing things objectively. I hope you continue to do these tierlists in the future sets as well, the format was nice and went with the flow while also easy to follow through. I like the fact that you explain the details of the decks objectively with supporting commentary adhering to data that can be followed from tourney results. This is such a great video and tier list! Lots to experiment with and aim for, if certain cards are not within your collection (yet). That said, if anyone is interested in Fire decks, I'm having some success including Eevee and Flareon as options in the deck. Flareon has a 110 HP attack which can be devastating, and its own HP is solid at 120. I actually have two sets of these in my current Fire deck, which also includes Ponyta/Rapidash, Growlithe/Arcanine EX, Moltres EX, and Heatmor. It's less successful against Water and Psychic decks, true, but it can pack a punch with other typings. :)

Really well put together video. I am surprised that the Golem deck is ranked so low though. I've been having a lot of success with it against Mewtwo EX and Gyarados EX matches and a decent match up against Pickachu EX and Celebi EX. I agree that it looks unreliable and inconsistent but I still think it is underrated. My bold prediction is that it will be a sleeper pick that will show itself in the tournament scene in a couple of weeks.
@JL-ml6cy17 күн бұрын
Golem seems to get consistently smacked by Mew EX which is being run in just about every deck nowadays.

It isn't remotely underrated. It was incredibly overrated and fell very flat in tournaments this past weekend. Check out the data round up where I covered this here in the weekly meta report: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iH2vdWyQa51-gKs

I like the Golem deck to finish my PvE quests that require 1-3Diamond pokemon. If my first hand doesn't have 2-3 of the 4 cards needed (Geodude and Graveler are a must at the very least) to activate the deck, then I just reset. Thankfully, I got it on my first run against the Blastoise Event. Didn't have to waste any energy.

What I have found is that the current meta is incredibly vulnerable to fast aggression and disruption. That's why my current favourite list is one with a certain Promo Mankey and Primeape from Genetic Apex. Add Hitmonlee and Marshadow and you have a very energy cheap deck that can and will hit incredibly hard. Though you really have to embrace the playstyle two Red Cards and two Sabrinas can bring against certain matchups and Mewtwo EX is often decided by you actually using that Potion on your 80/90 HP Primeape. Because your opponent will have the Giovanni for the knockout otherwise. And you NEED that Energy on your Marshadow. Is it risky? Sure. Does it struggle when it doesn't draw well? That's any deck, really. But, most importantly, it is incredibly fun and I'm curious how it will fare in the next Emblem Event. This time, it brought me to most of my 50+ victories. Very often because I either had a Primeape ready to deal 100 damage to their Stage 1s or because Hitmonlee wrecked havoc on their bank for two turns. Both with a Marshadow (about to be) ready for the revenge. Otherwise, I do like the Poison deck for its heavy disruption play style even as early as the second Energy. It's not dealing the highest amounts of damage without Scolipede, but that's not what you need. You need to catch them in a poison loop and then hit them with the Scolipede for the one knockout that matters. That's why I think that Mew EX is a bit of a trap in that deck. It needs three Energy to be useful and the deck revolves around getting poison down quickly while retreating to deny knockouts. Even with two X-Speed, two Leaf and two Koga, Mew EX is an Energy drain you cannot afford.

Why is there a Leaf in the pikachu deck where there isnt a single pokemon with greater than 1 retreat cost? Two x-speed isn't enough to cover the energy conservation?

A lot of the power in the Pikachu deck comes from being able to maneuver your cards around without penalty. You'd play 3 XSpeed if allowed, but it isn't, so you play one Leaf instead.

What do you think of Pidgeot EX, haven't found its niche yet or it is just tier E
@jeff322113 күн бұрын
Imo, just from a casual, Pidgeot EX doesn't have enough to justify its existence. It's a Stage 2, that requires 3 energy to hit for 80 guaranteed, and upwards of 140 if your opponent has fully built their board. Most cases, you're never getting that 140 smack. Look at Gyarados EX. That thing is just a Stage 1 and while it requires 1 more energy, it smacks for 140 every single turn. Pidgeot EX also loses out on Pidegot's awesome disruption ability. From my experience, it's often better to get out a base Pidgeot, hitting for 70 damage for 2 energy, spreading out damage across your opponent's board for a sweeper to clean up late game. Pidgeot EX needs some support because I just don't see it having anything that justifies picking it over other EX pokemon.

Great video thanks. I agree the fighting decks are the most skill-based play. They are the most fun for me as you have to calculate so many possibilities with your little 80hp squad. The A Tier list get rather boring as it's a pretty straightforward strategy every time. Build Gard, stack Mewtwo and pew pew.
@jaredongsing18 күн бұрын
I think there is a discussion to be had on whether the tiered labels should be included. I understand that this is a tier list video, which will attract viewers. However, the problem with and point of tier lists is that the cut offs are subjectively determined by an authority rather than by arguments. People may use these labels to diagnose decks as "good" or "bad" rather than focusing on the matchups and the problems. In contrast, the meta reports say only what is popular, their matchup stats, and their problems. Labeling the problems, not the competitiveness, invites players to innovate.
