I’ve spent most of my music life writing great songs but lacked the true other half, mixing and mastering. Have failed to connect with a music library for first album. I’m going back and finding crucial dynamics some tracks lacked and doing the research and fixing. I can hear results from hard work. At some point we have to just abandon the song and call it finished but there is a bar that needs to be reached to get work...

Great stuff! I can relate to not taking the time to really study the brief that was sent, and like you said Jesse really take the time to listen to the reference tracks. The very first brief I received from a music library I have been working with I think I got too excited about it and focused too much on hurrying to get it submitted and didn't spend enough time focusing on what they really wanted. As a result, they did not accept it and of course, I was disappointed. So I went back and really listened to the track and tore it apart and realized I had made some mistakes. The second brief they sent me I really took my time studying the brief and listening to the reference tracks and ended up with a much better result, that track they accepted! So yes, really take the time to read and study the briefs.

excellent advice. can totally identify with quality plateau. trying new things can really unlock new skills and improve your music production quality. I'm trying new analogue synth combinations and have paused vocals and lyrics. have been happy with my progress, but am mindful to keep looking for true progress and serving a need

Think of a picture frame...each side supports in its own way the core center...you and your style are uniquely the center "picture" and each side frames it. Differentiate the sides to "frame" your special picture! The sides are depth, complexity, personalization, and synthesis with other genres.
