Which Genre Should You Specialize In For Sync Licensing? [Sync Academy Tutorial]

My go to genres that come easy to me: Downtempo smooth jazz (a la Paul hardcastle, Sade) & boom bap (a la Gang Starr, Mars Ill, Mathematik, Kero one, etc.). For sync, I’ll go for Lo fi instrumentals.

I've been paying attention to commercials lately and there seems to be trend towards tracks with vocals? Especially car ads. Are there libraries that are more inclined towards those than others?

Most Libraries are open to tracks w/ vocals and yes some will be more focused on licensing "full songs" rather than instrumental tracks.

Good way to strip it down to the core. What if a library does specifically ask for a “romantic/dramatic” genre from you?

Ask them for reference tracks if you're ever unsure of what they are wanting.

Romantic dramatic sounds like all the tracks on the CW network. Funny how all those all have vocals too, even under dialogue :)

Absolutely! I've done quite a bit of Synthwave tracks for the TV/Film licensing biz - yes it would be classified under the 'EDM' umbrella.

If a library reply to my email by saying if anything come up in the future and they can use my songs that they will contact me, does that mean that they accepted me or not. Are you only accepted when you get a contract?

Usually an acceptance means they're accepting some of your tracks into their catalogue so no I wouldn't consider that kind of response an acceptance.
