Long story. They were originally developed by a cat breeder who wanted to create a miniature black panther, so her first cross was a sable (dark brown, the original color--I had one; absolute witch that continuously tormented our other cats) with a black domestic shorthair. That skull shape is from later Burmese crosses that turned out to be from one male cat that was actually a defect. The few Burms I saw at shows in through that time all had squinty little eyes and looked like they had bad headaches. My cat was from before then so her eyes and skull were normal.

I love cats, but I don't like their face too pushed in. My persian is a doll face. I think he looks nicer. Maybe they should develop a "doll faced persian" category.

Yes! I loved Persians when I was in grade school in the 60s. My school had "Cat Fancy" magazines in the library and I always thought I wanted a Persian. Now, about 50 years later, they look too distorted to me and no longer attractive.

Oh my, some cats are really deformed. Some even dont look like cats anymore. For me cats are the perfect cute little killing machines, i cant imagine how a persian cat could hunt anything.
