Bad Mojo for being the best helmets of 2018 video your completely right. This video is one of the worst reviews of "best of" I have seen in recent years. The quality was good but that's it. 2 helmets that were any good but didn't mention why they was better than the other helmets of similar price etc. I could have gotten more info with 5 minutes of research.

@DrTranofEvil
@DrTranofEvil 6 жыл бұрын
orangelion03 the only problem is my Simpson Street Bandit from 2017 still has the peg and I almost lost my shield when the plastic screws on either side worked their way loose. Thing thankfully waited to fall apart until I sat my helmet on my kitchen table. Don’t get me wrong, I still love my Simpson, but I’d love to see them modernize a bit of the daily workings.
@orangelion03
@orangelion03 6 жыл бұрын
After that model 30, I had a model 60 for a few years. Great helmets for their time. Some years later I raced karts and cars, and wore Simpson car-racing specific lids. When I returned to riding after a long hiatus, I briefly looked at what Simpson had to offer and was not impressed when compared to even the lower cost offerings from Asia. But they still look bitchin' when paired with certain types of v-twin bikes.
@hvymtal8566

And as a bonus simpson insists on SNELL or ECE for every lid they make that's actually good (half helmet not because duh, and the M50 and M30 for having jawbreaker chin bars). The Ghost Bandit is one of their newest offerings and while it's not quiiiite there yet (good exhaust scheme and chin vents but no brow or top intakes), it is miles better, is made in the USA, and invests its dollars into safety over expensive materials. Plus it has an awesome American flag graphic it actually earns, and you can _almost_ call the shape sporty and technical.

Honestly, I don't know if I come here for your bang-on facts, or your brilliant Canadian humour! While on the topic of helmets, have you considered doing a similar video - but with less known brands? There are a great deal of smaller helmet manufacturers that never get any media attention, and to be honest I am kinda bored with the typical "Arai, Shoei, Bell, Icon, etc" helmets that always get featured no matter where you look. It's as if online motorcycle society don't want to acknowledge the existence of any other brands than the top 5 or 10 names everyone knows. Keep up the good work!

The Arai brow vents eliminate holes near the edge of the shell. Holes drilled near the edge of the shell can make it easier for the shell to crack in an impact. Yes it's more expensive to make this way, but it improves protection...Arai's purpose for being.

For people considering their first Arai, I have to say I'm really happy about my new Arai QV. There are a couple of "ehh" things about it, like the tabs that hold most of the lining in place (not the easiest to get right) and the opening tab for the visor which takes getting used to. But it is super comfortable once fit properly and really quiet. As far as safety tests are concerned, it should be right in the best buys out there. Expensive, yes. But if you can afford it, you'll likely be very happy of your purchase. Also the QV is one of the only helmets that will fit properly on a long oval head, so there's that.

note that they may not work for you depending on helmet/motorcycle setup. I used them and they caused extremely loud popping noises above 30mph. Had to pull over, take them out, then return them.
@DrTranofEvil
@DrTranofEvil 6 жыл бұрын
I use the same setup under an Arai Signet Q. You want to have a little ear-space in your helmet, and you need to keep them as still as possible to avoid the popping noises mentioned. I rode with the from Oregon to North Dakota and they saved my sanity. Making calls is fine if you’re not in a helmet, but yeah, the mic sits too low for that to work on a bike. The other thing is if you get a cell-phone charger with a dual-USB setup, you can charge your phone AND run the noise cancellation 16 hours+. My Honda CB1100 is a VERY quiet bike, but after riding with noise cancellation all day and turning it off, my bike sounded like a freight train!

True t d, I was thinking I had found the holy grail finally when I put them on.....until I hit 3rd gear and the popping started. Super frustrating inside my Arai Defiant. However I used them on a race fit AGV Corsa R lid and no popping at all....but the helmet has to be super tight me thinks.

He said good things about Arai, and in fact, said that it was a cheap but quality Arai. Its only expensive if you want to pay that much for a helmet (I dont lol) The fashionable ones are just because some people are obsessed with looking good. The tech one only to give props to the noise cancelation, but he might as well have just put that on an aside as a shout out. The HJC he also liked. He just had a few issues, but said that overall, it is a worthy helmet to get for the price range. But he is always a critical one, so dont take it too harshly. Its a good thing in a way because it means he is being fair, even if it can seem confusing when he doesnt make one seem so obviously awesome and unregrettable to buy.

correction : i have the rpha 70, use it daily. i live in indonesia where the climate is warmer than in subtropical area and those venting really helps especially during a very hot day, that chin vent actually channels air from your chin to your neck. thats really helps cooling you. yes it's quite loud, but for a lighter, more holes and $250 cheaper, that is actually a bargain.

Don't suppose there's a way of determining head shape other than just trying on a bunch? I don't have the best access to shops, and will probably get most, if not all, of my gear online. @Foche_T._Schitt
@Foche_T._Schitt 6 жыл бұрын
Not that I know of. You got to spend some time with helmets on your head. if you get a red splotch on your forehead it's too round. Shaking your head "no" will cause a poor fitting helmet to not keep up with your head. It shouldn't pull off with the chinstrap tightened either. Closest big selection of helmets to me is about 30-40min away, just make a day of it and don't waste the sales persons time if you're buying online. Maybe make a smaller purchase.

What is the best helmet for Adventure? I see tons of helmets but I can't seem to find a great one. I'm usually 80% dirt and 20% pavement
@XseuguhX
@XseuguhX 6 жыл бұрын
If your adventure is 90+% paved roads like most people who own adventure bikes, then your best bet is probably HJC highlighted in the video... EDIT : Ok, so apparently you are one of the few who actually go off road. I've never tried it, but I heard some great things about the Bell MX9 Adv from people who do dirtbike stuff. They also make a version with MIPS nowadays. You way want to check that out : www.bellhelmets.com/en_eu/mx-9-adventure-mips

@FortNine hey, ryan please can you do specific video on the HJC RPHA 70 ST ?
@timothycalhoun8623

A couple of comments, The lower vent is for overall venting, the vents above that are for anti-fog thus giving the rider more overall control on the RPHA ST70. While the noise canceling function is definitely "techy" fun, the shell and construction of this helmet are still lacking. Asking a premium helmet company focused on protection, design, features, comfort, to jump into the tech world without a leading partner is a big ask. It also goes without saying that the large helmet manufacturers also have the burden of a substantially larger liability target on their backs, therefore the partnering with Sena and other brands to build units to fit, but these are typically rider installed. Thanks for your reviews

Been loving my RPHA 70 ST so far this season. I have a red and black graphic with gold mirrored lens, which isn’t very dark, along with the dark smoke drop down visor to give me two tint levels. Much nicer than just the dark smoke on my CL 17.

So in a nutshell, all of these helmets are garbage for the ridiculously high price tags they harbor. No thanks. I'll stick to my 200.00 scorpion , wear earplugs, and/or buy my own communications system and call it a decade.

Enjoy your $200 scorpion. Coworker had one and after crashing stupidity, he put a 4 inch wide dent on top. They ended up drilling holes in his head to releave pressure. Ultimately he ended up getting fired from work after putting the wrong chemicals in our service machines. Apparently his $200 helmet affected his memory

Well.....I got the Icon Airflite about a month ago (gloss black with chrome lid!) cost me £200, not the cheapest but certainly not expensive, to me it doesn’t feel heavy and I actually find the field of vision especially my periphery very good indeed. But it’s all personal preference. Another excellent video, do enjoy it that you don’t pander to the companies and tell it like it is.

What helmet would you reccomend for naked bikes that are quiet and under 500€
6 жыл бұрын
scyra99 The margin that they add (and you pay) for a "marginally more sound proof" helmet is quite high. IMHO, it is best to carry a pair of silicone ear buds with you and save the couple of hundred dollars you'd pay give to a quieter helmet for, say, your insurance..

A note on the HJC RPHA 70 ST: Ryan mentions it to be “...always louder than competitor’s...” Champion Helmets road test review showed the RPHA 70 to be a very quiet helmet at 97 Db, which matched the same total as the Shoei GT Air2. A typical decibel rating for a typical full-face helmet is around 102 Db.

Look at sharp website. They are a UK goverment site that tests lots of helmets and rates them. You would be surprised by how many $500+ helmets that get beat by $150 helmet. I've got the HJC IS 17 which is 5 stars and is 150. Your paying $400 for the comfert and brand, which for me isn't worth it.

Thats a very dumb ideaology. "Ill skimp on comfort and quality and saftey because it costs almost as much as my bike" I dont care if they make helmets 1000 dollars across the board. Im still buying one. I wont let me being cheap be the reason i dont see my family again. Look up scorpion helmets. Theyre not cheap, but you get ALOT of helmet at a great proce.

I went to the airflite from the airframe pro. Love it. The airframe is noisy as hell. The airflite has little noise, provides more room for my head and makes me feel more comfortable. The sunshade with a tinted visor is great for me since my eyes are especially sensitive to light. If i had to give the airflite a critique id say that its in dire need of a brow vent. I find the vents up top lacking. I would also like there to a visor setting that leaves a little gap. I find at lights that the visor fogs up feirce; so every light its open season.

The tech in this is very similar to that of the 3M PELTOR COMTACS only difference is it amplifies sound so you can hear people until there is a loud noise in which it cuts out the sound. I know my local police scotland armed response unit use these go protect there ears when they are shooting.
