As obvious as the danger that comes with spike like mods are, I've had spike grips on my bike for years. Loved them for the looks, the spike and the integrated turn signal in the spike end of the grip. However, one night on my way home I hit a deer that jumped out in front of me, not even giving me time to hit the brakes...as my chest bounced off the tank, the bars torqued with the bike going down on its side, and there it was...the spike tearing into my forearm. At the time I didnt realize it, because I was more amazed with the luck of my open face landing into my gloved hand as I hit the pavement, but upon arriving home and checking the damage done...I realized I had a sleeve full of blood and a torn wound to match. I was always paranoid about my laces when I wore a pair of jungle boots. I'd replaced the worn laces with parachute cord which is 550lb test. I was less worried about getting caught on the shifter or brake pedal, and more worried about one getting untied and into my chain.

immikeurnot Shoelaces have to be weak to act as a safety. If a shoelace is caught by something it's better to just break the shoelace than drag and suck the whole leg into the transmission. So don't tie your shoes with steel cable as a shoelace.

Love the safety tips. I've been riding since 1985 but for the life of me I couldn't figure out why an external water hose could be dangerous. But after I saw why, I almost panicked from just the idea. That would really suck!

Another True Story from the old guy archives : 1965, small prairie town, southwest US. Several of us 14-15 yr old's were riding the main drag in town, when approaching a green light, it changed to yellow. The car in front of us slammed on it's brakes and four of us stopped under our own power. Number five was stopped by the bumper and tail fin of a '59 Cadillac. Yep, impaled him just below the ribcage. If your going to impale yourself on the tail fin of a '59 Cadillac, it's best if you choose the proper location. We happened to be in an intersection between the fire station and local hospital. We were busy trying to disimpale (unimpale, depale?) our friend when a few guys from the fire station came running over. They stopped us, then proceeded to look the situation over. They decided we were on the right track and grabbing upper and lower body, removed him from the tail fin. The little blue haired driver threw up, then fainted. Another gurney appeared and both patients were wheeled across the street for treatment. Both survived. Moral to story : Not only be aware of sharp pointy things on your bike, also be aware of sharp pointy things that stop you when exiting the bike.

Hi there, very eye opening video , thank you. I want to mention something, my uncle had a motorcycle accident couple years ago, it was a considerably low speed tangle and fall. Not a fanny bag but a tank bag full of camera gear and tools caused him bleed internally and nearly dead. After months of surgery and recovery, he is now living well but not allowed to ride a motorcycle or similar because he lost nearly all of his core muscles. Enought said, tank bags have similar danger. Thing to consider. Sorry for my english.

Osprey uses magnets instead of hooks for their hydration systems

Magnets work great, but you can try what I do - use a self retracting id badge lanyard, that way you can get a drink and let go of the hose, the lanyard pulls it back to the same spot every time.

if you got the hose and the magnet right, it falls and "locks" back in to place. I also use the osprey and never really have issues with it flailing. just let it fall out of my mouth. Magnets on them are pretty strong.

I would say handle bar cell phone holders should be on there. I was in a accident (30mph) and it hit me right in the stomach. Had a textile jacket on and still gave me a sever contusion.

However, you could also argue that a phone in your jacket pocket could also pose a risk, because, assuming you fly chest first onto tarmac, the phone would be the first point of contact. This would provide a central point for which the force of the impact to pass through. This would mean just a series of bruised ribs could turn into a fractured rib that could pierce a lung.

I used to wear laced shoes out riding and I would occasionally get one of the loops long enough to wrap around my shifter and actually tie my foot to the mechanism. I usually wouldn’t notice until I went to downshift again, usually because I was trying to stop. That’s a fun sensation, feeling your foot restrained against something and stopping you from trying to slow down! 😂

Just getting back into motorcycles and so I have realized what I dont know, yes I'm retired and it has been many years since riding my 125 honda over in Germany. At lease then they the car drivers didn't try to run you over. Thanks for the great eye openers. Will be binge watching your channel.

A long time ago, a good friend of mine was riding at high speed his Bonneville that had high handlebars (we called these ''Brandos'' in those days) when he was cut by an uncoming car that turned left. He hit the car and was thrown in the air. One of the high handles hit him in the abdomen and puncture his liver. He survived (because he was young and very strong) but never rode a motorcycle again. I immediately got rid of my high handlebars and re-installed the original ones on my bike. I had never thought about that type of risk then. Ride safe.🏍🏍🏍
