Join me as I head to the top of 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York City for a spectacular Unobstructed view of Central Park, The Empire State Building and many other iconic sights from 850ft. In this video I share the full Top Of The Rock experience including footage from the exhibition, cinema room, elevator and of course the spectacular view.
Not only do I share footage from the Top Of The Rock in the daytime, I also stay at the top and watch the incredible sunset across the city. I then continue to look around the observation deck before looking out across New York in the dark.
Check out my video from The Empire State Building Observatory here: • Visiting The Empire St...

Thanks, Shawn! Thanks to KZbin, I discovered you yesterday with your visit to the Statue of Liberty. Home because of the pandemic and a sight problem with my diabetes, I needed something cool, and you fit the bill. I will likely never get to New York, but your trip and commentary has been awesome! I hope you'll be able to keep traveling once the pandemic is over. Thanks again!

From the very first time I watched Ghostbusters, and saw the digital 'ghosts' escaping over New York ... THIS has been my favourite view from any tall building around the world. 21:10 is THE classic view they used in the film ... Love it!

Hello Shawn, Was in New York in 1970.The Empire State Building Was the tallest in the world. What a different skyline today. Though the Trade Center Twins would soon be finish in 1973. The year I graduated High School. Who would of thought the history of New York would be so full of trouble. I have ordered a model of the Twin Towers with an eagle over the buildings. Wow! Good job in filming, The Rock, The Empire State, One World Trade Center. I have watched all on your video. Yes, 50 years has change at least the one buildings I toured. The Empire State. I remember the original entrance. A small hall way in granite, marble, Gold. Thanks for the visit!

I’m going to New York next year for the first time (for two weeks) I really have always been in love with the Empire State Building and would love to go up , but I just can’t do heights (watching this video made me feel uneasy) I’ll try and find a few rooftop bars that aren’t so high. P.s I’m loving the fact we’re both British, and spell our name the ‘unusual’ way!

432 Park is sort of polarizing for NY'ers. You either love it or you don't. The architect Raphael Vinoly got inspiration from a trash can. Some people find it very obscene on the skyline.

Shawn; I was born in Brooklyn N.Y. and was a RN back when the twin towers went down.Raised 3 kids in a little country town 75 miles up in Putnam County and one year the tree for Rockefeller Center came from my town and what a tree it was and we were the hit of NY with our beautiful Northern Fir and we were all so proud.I miss N.Y. and had to move to Florida 17 years ago when my husband became ill.I miss the change of Seasons but I don't miss the snow. There's no place like N.Y.City and I will always be a New Yorker!!!!

I was there ice skating a few weeks before you got there and they still had the tree up. The tree was amazing. If you go ice skating, best to go VIP to avoid the really long lines (but do that during their off peak times or you will pay a fortune). I was down there a lot during the holidays. You zoomed in on Saks 5th ave I noticed. I see it was still decked out in the holiday decorations. They have light shows during the holidays. Believe it or not, I went to Top of the Rock for the first time last year. Beautiful views indeed. I, too, purchased my ticket online which is the best way to go. I used CityPass, which gives you discounts. I need to go back to 30 Rock to do an update on the buildings under construction when the weather is warmer. You can now see One Vanderbilt (still under construction until 2020). When I went up there back in April you couldn't see it. Again, you get great close ups of 432 Park, 53W53 (aka MoMa extension formerly known as Torre Verre), Hudson Yards, Central Park Tower (aka Nordstrom Tower), and Steinway towers (all under construction). 30 Rock is the only place where you can see both Empire State and One World Trade. That "strange" building you were talking about is one of the most expensive condos in Manhattan. They don't have rooms on every floor to keep it from swaying. Beautiful Sunset views you did. I may have said it before, although I prefer seeing the city during the day because I can see more detail of the buildings and bridges, the city is absolutely beautiful at night. Love it. They had a room up there with lights and things which was really cool when you walked inside. The lights would follow you around. The chandelier in the beginning when you first walk inside 30 Rock is actually in the shape of the building upside down which is pretty cool. I love New York. I could go on forever about it. Awesome video. 😊

20:13 it’s really cool because you when you look at the towers you see (main 3) 53w53,one57,and the Nordstrom tower but the Steinway tower actually fits perfectly in with 53w53 it’s not to tall and you can’t see any of the Steinway if you look lower down and also 220 Central Park south is blocked by the Nordstrom and that’s also why it’s kinda weird a 238 million dollar penthouse was recently purchased there because you aren’t facing any of midtown and downtown

Very nice video Shawn.....excellent views.......I have to tell you... Back in 1975.....this observatory was not as well known , or famous , or popular or advertised as it is today..... During the nicest of spring or summer days....you would only have maybe 10 or 20 people at the 67 to 70th floor.... It was so very relaxed and peaceful.....they had these big green wooden lawn chairs which you could sit in.....but there was no big fanfare about the observatory...no psychedelic LSD elevator ride......just a simple elevator to the observatory....(it was so unadvertised....you had to ask the ground floor ushers and information...where the elevator to the observatory was)......it was almost like they were trying to keep it a secret.....anyway.....you could stay up there all day.....the cost back in 1975......$1.50... Same for empire State.....it was always well advertised....but there were no huge crowds back in 1975....a little more than the rock......but not packed like sardines.....I mean on a nice sunny spring day..... Then the original world trade center.....the ones that were destroyed.....the south tower had an inside and outside observatory ......107th floor.....than an escalator 3 floors to the roof top outside.....these also in the 1975 era...were not crowded...even on perfect sunny spring days....I guess people had to work back then😁😁😁..... But what was amazing.....was being outside at 1377 feet....a huge difference in feeling from esb at 1050 feet... or Rockefeller at 850 feet.......it felt like you were in the sky... everything was dwarfed by world trade center....even esb... looked like a tiny children's toy......if I remember the cost of wtc observatory in 1975 or 1976.....I think I was agrevated because it was a whopping $3.50 ....then I was insensed when it skyrocketed to $5.00........can you tell me the fees today on all 3 observatories......has the price risen any??

Amazing video with spectacular footage of the sunset. Looking forward to watching the rest of your vids . ...... Can I ask what camera you used as we're going back to NYC next year and would love to capture our memories in such great detail ? Keep up the great work !!

If you would have looked down at the sidewalk when you zoomed in on Saks 5th ave and the lego store you would have seen the plaque that marks the exact spot they put the tree at. They give that plaque every year to the property owners they take the tree from.

Another great video but just a heads up Shawn, Radio City is a music hall not an actual broadcasting radio centre so the aerials doesn’t have anything to do with Radio City 👌👍

Hi Shawn, really cool and detailed video! I’m going to NYC in April. Can I ask at what time of day did you go to top of the rock to catch the transition from daylight to sunset? Or what time do you recommend going in April to get that transition to sunset ?

I went up around 3pm! I would say head up around 60 minutes before sunset

Great vid man, im heading over in May, I absolutely hate heights so will be shitting it. I was hoping to see it for sunset also. Is there a time limit on how long you can be up there for? How quick is the lift up? I was in Paris last March and thought the lift was poxy i was just wondering if it was fast up getting up there. Thanks.
