nathan van schyndel he does do a really good job with them. It's a lot harder to catch all of your own mistakes than to catch one mistake that someone else made. Considering he's doing these videos by himself and not with an editing team I'd agree it's quality content. He also avoids a lot of the annoying stuff many people put in their videos (long intros/animations, excessive dialogue, and a bunch of other stuff I can't think of at the moment )

If light takes at least 2 million years to travel to your eye, that means that galaxy/star/planet/astronomical object is at least 2 million years old taking in consideration energy can't be created or destroyed, by comparing different stars (especially Supernovaes also called "candles") you can calculate it's distance (in Astronomical Unit or parsec) from our Solar System or Milky Way with great accuracy, astronomers also study the spectrum of that A.O.(Astronomical Object) which can tell a lot of its atmosphere, stage of development in regard with other previously studied stars/planets etc, so they can determine their stage at the point of observation. You can use Hubble's Law (V=H*d) to determine the distance and then the age, Doppler gave a relation for velocity, H is Hubbler Constant 79km/s/Mpc. Others methods include Cepheids, Parallax (for local A.O.), Radar (for Moon). It's a complex process but not impossible, many variables come into play and observable clues which combined give you the age of your A.O. I must say it's not 100% accurate but it is a start.
