Welcome to the Faroe Islands! The Faroe Islands in Danish means the Islands of the Sheep, and you will see why! It’s located in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean about 400 miles off the coast of Northern Europe, between Norway and Iceland. The first people to colonize the islands were Norwegians about 1,200 years ago and it become a major Viking settlement in that time. Its main industries are fishing and tourism - people come to experience its natural beauty, incredible bird life and delicious Faroese gastronomy.

most if not everyone i have met on the faroe islands are nice and friendly people. and i just think you are incapable of forming your own thought and you are just buying in all the bullshit the media is selling you.

+Tae Bae I agree 100 years the islanders ate whale meat to survive and times were hard. However nowadays there is an abundance of food. There are 70,000 sheep, a huge fishing industry, and their shops are packed with food much like any other western country. No one goes hungry and the islanders walk around with full bellies, yet they kill dolphins and whales for fun and sport. The meat can't be eaten except in very small amounts because it is toxic, so large amounts are dumped back at sea. We have *no respect* for these demented and cruel people that kill.
@125minden
@125minden 7 жыл бұрын
+Tae Bae Approximately 97% of cetaceans killed by the Grind are dolphins. Pilot whales are among the largest of the oceanic dolphins, exceeded in size only by the killer whale. They and other large members of the dolphin family. They and other large members of the dolphin family are also known as blackfish. The islanders also kill are endangered CITES Appendix II species: Atlantic White Sided Dolphins, Risso’s dolphins and Northern bottlenose whales. The Northern bottle nosed whale is the only recorded whale species killed by the Grind. They also kill Bottlenose dolphins. If you do not believe me, then why don't you check the meticulous Grind records? Are you feeling a bit silly now? Perhaps if you did some proper research instead of writing ignorant nonsense, then you would not look like a foolish asshat.
@125minden
@125minden 7 жыл бұрын
+Tae Bae yes - just as I thought you are too embarrassed to admit that you are wrong about dolphins killed. It confirms how ignorant and naive you really are about the Grind. Looking at you avatar you look like you are just a young kid, and that explains a lot. Yes, please go. I found this thread to be a legitimate read, until you came trailing along with that childish, vulgar, primitive, verbal diarrhea shit smear in your wake.
@125minden
@125minden 7 жыл бұрын
+Tae Bae So you admit you are young and naive yet you write posts that are plain wrong. So please tell me how you can defend the Grind when you know it is horrible in so many ways?

You allow people to see the beautiful places vicariously...which they otherwise couldn't. Commendable Work. You can also talk to the local people about their lives and place. It adds more beauty to a travelogue. Namaste.

This is a very pleasant film showing some very attractive places in the Faroe Islands. However, it is incorrect as referring to the language spoken in the Isles as being Danish. The Faroese people speak their own Faroese language, which is indeed most similar to Icelandic. Both these tongues are related and preserving the original language of the Scandinavian and Nordic countries. Therefore the name of Tórshavn is not Danish at all but purely Faroese as well as Icelandic, Th(Þ)órshöfn in Icelandic. The word Tórshavn means The Harbour of Thor. Tór=Thor, havn= harbour. The cuisine you mention in the film is not Danish either but genuinely Faroese. Yours sincerely with blessings, Gunnthor Ingason

RESPECT THE LOCAL NATURE... DONT GO THERE. AND NOT WHEN IS DOLPHIN SEASON: es un pais rico de primer mundo que se separo de la unon europea pero sigue bajo bandera dinamarquesa para poder explotar indiscriminadamente el oceano sin atenerse a las leyes de la union europea sobre depredacion. tremenda jugada. ademas hay 2 ovejas por cada habitante y es su otra mayor fuente de ingresos junto al turismo. gastaron 140 millones de euros en tuneles submarinos para rutas entre puebluchos de pocs habitantes porque les sobra el dinero. THEY DOLPHIN KILLERS SHOOT A DRONE WITH A SHOTGUN WHEN SOMEONE TRYIED TO DOCUMENT THE MASS KILINGS OF CETACEANS IN FEROE.!!! MASS KILINGS OF DOLPHINS IN SUFFERING EVERY YEAR....THEY DON´T EVEN EAT THEM AND THROW IT AWAY BECAUSE THEIR POPULATION IS VERY LOW !!! THEY HAVE SHEEP ALL OVER THE ISLAND. THEY SPENT 140 MILLON EUROS IN CAR TUNELS AND ROADS BUT THEY STILL SLAUGHTER DOLPHINS FOR MEAT HAVING SHEEP AND MONEY ? THEY SAY IS TRADITION AND TEACH THEIR KIDS TO PUT AN AXE TO THE HEAD OF DOLPHINS ON THE BEACH. THEY KILLED 1500 LAST YEAR- BEASTS. WE ARE NOT ALONE, PLEASE GO TO EVERY FAROE ISLAN TOURIST VIDEO AND COPY PASTE THIS: An international Declaration of Rights for Cetaceans was formulated in 2010 declaring dolphins and whales as “persons” to be afforded “non-human rights”, including freedom of movement and residence and not to be killed, captured, bred, or enslaved. A subsequent global movement for cetacean rights was launched in 2012.Aug 3, 2017 PLEASE HELP SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT MASS MURDER IN FAROE ISLANDS AND GENOCIDE TO INOCENT CREATURES, WATCH THE VIDEO TO BE INFORMED. Hello David, I'm planning on going to the Faroe Islands and I find your video very interesting. I just wondered how much you paid for the whole trip (approximately). I know the Faroe Islands are very expensive (compared to France). Thank you very much !

I have never been to the Faroe Islands but I am from Sweden which is another Scandinavian country, and I find France extremely expensive. 6 euros for a pint of beer? 12 euros for a pizza? 28 euro for a 90 minute train ride with TER regional trains? (a 90 minute train ride with regional train in Sweden or Denmark would be 12 euro). Thats just insanely expensive if you compare to Sweden or Denmark! I would not be surprised if prices in the Faroe Islands are comparable with France, as the Faroe Islands are said to be a bit more expensive than the rest of Scandinavia

thanks David. if you can improve the map which emphasizes the various places you were about to introduce, it will be better. can't really figure out where they are. the color contrast is not great and the wordings are pretty small too

When did you visit this fantastic island? I'm planning to go there but I don't know if I go in august earlier or in september.
