Chicago has NEVER had top crime rates in US. Yes, there are pockets of the city with far too many murders, but per capita it isn’t nearly as bad as cities like St Louis, Memphis, Cleveland, New Orleans and many others. Cook County is more populated than 35 states, so the total numbers are similar to entire states of the US. True, the top high schools are Chicago public schools, magnet schools. The city has the largest Catholic school system in the US. Chicago winters have been very mild for many years running, and not nearly as much snow as many other cities. (btw, Windy City nickname has nothing to do with the weather, a common misconception).

If you don't get beat up waiting for the L in Chicago you certainly will get beat up by the taxes and fees. Just to own a car in the city it is 90 dollars a year for a vehicle city sticker and everyone needs to buy one even if you have off street parking. Throw a 10% tax on everything you buy.. one of the highest consumer goods taxes in the country. And like the host said.. if you own a half million dollar home in Chicago throw another grand a month in for property tax... 500 a month in taxes if your house is modestly valued at 250K .. your gonna need a part time job just to pay the taxes
