I primarily face lather with the exception of using samples. I agree with the reasons plus it definitely invigorates my skin and helps exfoliate it. Great video as always Jon!

Same here! I just enjoy the feel of the brush working up the soap on my face and I feel I get a quicker sense of the consistency of the lather while I work it over my whiskers. But like you say, for samples, since they often come wrapped only in plastic or a very small jar, I either place the sample puck in a bowl or if it's a softer soap, I just scoop a bit out into the bowl and work up the lather that way. But my preference is 100% to face lather.

Excellent topic, Jon! I face lather about 99% of the time. The brush and soap feel great on my face and it is the best prep I've found. I enjoy the whole regimen, the process. It helps me wind down after a long day. Cheers! -Rob

Nice one John. I primarily bowl lather but will get more into face lathering soon. For me it was easier using a bowl to dial in lather when first starting out or trying a new soap. I can add water with a bit more precision. Have a good one!

I always bowl lathered for years. I used proraso in a tube forever. Recently, I switched to cella. Wow! I bowl lathered for a while, and I enjoyed it, and it worked well. But, I tried face lathering and I now prefer it. At least for as long as I use Cella, which is my only soap. Face lathering is better for me for all the reasons mentioned in this video. Less gear, more hydration / face time, you can feel the lather when it's ready, and of course the scent is much more intense.

I get the best of both worlds. I bowl lather to get the lather to the density and water content I like, but I also use a scuttle, so i bowl lather, transfer the lather to my G20 scuttle (hot lather, yes!!) and then apply the lather to my face, but I then face lather. I mean I really take my time and apply the lather, splay, paint, etc., all of it. I take my time. I get up earlier in order to have enough time to shave before work. I’m not cutting my shave time down!! And yes, the aromatherapy of the soap scent (the hot scuttle really blooms that scent!!) is one my favorite aspects of wet shaving.

Hybrid lathered here. I bowl load and face lather. Usually; there are exceptions. Building the lather on my face hugely helps in managing my skin health and prevents acne break-outs. Great video!!

Great video, Jon. I face lathered exclusively for decades other than for soap samples. Then my ceramic Captain's Choice bowl broke. I bought an unbreakable, travel-sized Pereira, which fits on the shelf and in my hand. I found it makes a great lather and have been using it since April. For that reason I should weigh in for the followup survey. But as an inveterate face latherer, I just want to applaud and second all of the observations made here, including your note on scent. Not only do they echo mine over the years; they made me want to do a face lather again to see if the improvements I'm noticing are as dramatic as they seem. I'd have gotten around to it anyway, but this is a good incentive. Great job, all!

I enjoy face lathering I like the brush on the face and how it preps the whiskers on your face and gives the lather a chance to soften them. But also there is something to be said about bowl lathering in a nice scuttle and feeling the warm lather touch your face

Bowl Lather makes finding and using the desired amount of soap and water easy to do. For the same amount of soap, and having more difficulty keeping uniform quantity of water for the various succession of razor passes, I have been getting better results with face-lathers, and it seems more of the soap is transferred to the face than just using bowl lather.

I like to keep my lather bowl on a warming plate (actually a candle warmer). I use a synthetic brush so I am not worried about damage

Synthetic brush+Bowl lather = best shave of my life. I don’t want a brush scratching my face up. Plus bowl lather lets me add water considerably more precisely. I’d only ever consider face lathering if I’m in a hurry

I use a cruelty free synthetic brush and it works great for either bowl or face lathering.

@@timjones8295 Badgers are killed for their fur to make shaving brushes and other reasons. That's cruel. I won't use a badger brush because of this. Synthetic brushes can build good lather too. Anyone who tells you differently is a snob like those people who think they are wine experts but can't tell the difference between a boxed wine and a "premium vintage" in a blind test.

I don't see why one couldn't build the lather in the bowl and then take as much time as possible exfoliating, scrubbing and applying the lather on the face. 🤔

You certainly can, a lot of folks load up with the shave bowl and move onto face lathering.
