Thanks for this great rundown of those plugins, some of which I hadn't seen before, and I like how you combine them to create new and interesting effects. A couple of my favorites are Arturia's REV-Intensity, Valhalla Supermassive, Eventide Shimmerverb, and Raum from Native Instruments, but I really need to add Blackhole at some point, and possibly Eventide Crystals. Great video, and I love how you get to the point with no fluff - just concise and clear explanations that are super helpful 🙂

Really appreciate this comment @nigelmerrick - those plugins are great, I’ve been especially enjoying running these Paul stretch creations through Valhalla’s supermassive. I keep hearing about rev-intensity though so now I’ve got to check it out! Thanks for mentioning

Bro Make a Video About How to Mix & Master The Score From Scratch ❤

Sure thing! I actually rarely "mix and master from scratch" due to my template being setup with most of my "mix" features baked in. However, I was thinking I'd take a friend, who usually sends to a mixer for their scores, and I'll mix one of their cues as a demonstration for anyone that doesn't set up their template like that.

Another great video, Jonas. I am very fresh to composition and used just that chromaverb in LogicPro and Auraverb with my Antelope interface. So far I am happy, but once I need to start squeeze those tears from cellos and violins, I promis to take on your valuable advice. Nice to watch your channel, many thanks!

Ocean way studio reverb looks interesting for dry samples if we can emulate early reflections =)

It does! It's a really powerful tool... I use it with just about every single live player that sends recording to integrate into my music. When I'm recording myself either acoustic guitar, guitarviol it helps you get a lot more tone out of a dry recording.

Great video. After years of using verbs of every sort I settled on two and I just don't need any other. 1- Seventh Heaven Brucasti. An AMAZING value at 70 bucks. For all things natural sounding, this is the king of the hill, imo. Knocks all others out of the box. 2- Blackhole. It's like no other. Just mind blowing. I too grabbed it on sale. Lexicon is on sale at UAD now too. I've always been interested in it but after I got Brucasti, hard stop done, lol! I know you have delays up next I bet, don't you? Delays is one of those beasts that still annoy me. I always need delay to be just plain simple to dial in. None of them seem to be lol. Thanks for your content! BTW- I hope you don't mind if I include a review on it but Corey does a really nice job reviewing the Brucasti plugin- kzbin.info/www/bejne/enmce3aHlNR7d6c

Thanks for checking it out @dfizzbom ! Totally don't mind - I've got to get the Seventh Heaven, have heard a lot of great things about it and I'm going to check out the review you've shared, thanks so much! I actually don't have a delay video because I'm like you... I just use whatever is the absolute simplest. For me that's been Sound Toys echo boy. Sometimes the crystalizer in reverse as well. If I made a delay video it's be over in about a minute...maybe I'll just post a short lol.

Great content, as always, Jonas! I hear a lot of praise about Lexicon reverbs. But there is one thing that bugs me: I do not own the UAD version (and certainly not the hardware!), but some other emulations, notably the recent one from Arturia, but also the LX480 Essentials from Relab, and the two LX emulations from Native Instruments. All these emulations, though, do not sound good on percussive material, e.g. Kick or Snare. They all have annoying "sizzling" early reflections that I dislike. Other reverbs, e.g. the Valhalla VintageVerb, are much smoother. Are these "sizzling" early reflections particular to the LX, or is the UAD emulation smoother in this respect? Does that make sense?
@jonasfriedman
@jonasfriedman Жыл бұрын
Thanks @kbimm . This is a great questions about the Lexicon on drums. I haven't tried these other versions of the LEX you're referring to but it's possible that the UAD version is smoother. When using the halls or plates on the 224 I can maybe hear what you're referring too. However, I when personally reach for the 224 on Snare and Toms, I use a great preset called 'ET-Mexicon Snare'. I don't personally hear those sizzling early reflections but it could be because it's set to the ROOM setting. This setting is really not like a "reverb" but more of a room tone that fattens up the stereo width of the snare and toms and sounds really great. It's a very natural sound so someone might not even realize a reverb is on the instrument until it's bypassed and then the thickness of the sound completely drops off. With that said....Valhalla is buttery smooth no matter what it's on and depending on the mood and vibe of the music I may combine the Valhalla's more traditional reverb tone with the 224's room tone before it.

When you deliver your stems to the dub stage do you bake in these reverbs or leave them off and just tell the mixing engineer what reverbs you used?

@@jonasfriedman Thanks! When you deliver your stems are they in stereo or 5.1 surround? I noticed that some composers like Trevor Morris deliver their stems in surround.
@jonasfriedman
@jonasfriedman 8 ай бұрын
@BrentLeVasseur these days i deliver stereo and they turn it into surround - allows me to work in a smaller template which is more portable. When I was doing blockbuster films more consistently I used my surround setup and I still have it for when it’s necessary but for most tv projects stereo is A-OK

great video there ! thank u !! was considering getting one of the lexicon 224 or 480 reverbs can u suggest which of them would be great mostly for orchestral stuff ?
@jonasfriedman
@jonasfriedman Жыл бұрын
Thanks @PawanKumar-hm5te - I haven’t used the lexicon 480 so I’m not able to speak to that plugin (yet) but I personally love the 224 and use it as the first reverb in my send chain for all my orchestral samples. It’s very natural sounding and I just love it. Last I checked JXL does the exact same thing so if you went that direction you’d be in good company!

@@jonasfriedman It also has nice soundshaping capabilities. But I have it on a send because it's also a very nice reverb not only for the tail but also for the space. All my orchestral instruments (dry) I have in Mir Pro 3D. just learning mixing, before I had the privilege of working with United Broadcast Facilities. 🙂

Do you routinely bounce down to save cpu cycles? Verb seems to add up when using so many instances...unless you run thru aux...? Longtime Aether 2cAudio user.
@jonasfriedman
@jonasfriedman Жыл бұрын
Good question - every stem buss in my template has 2 reverbs in an aux where instruments in that stem group feed to. I’ll add extras whenever needed on individual tracks but a lot is covered by the 16 aux fx group. I haven’t needed to bounce down prior to printing stems

@@jonasfriedman Well, the hall presets are great on anything you want to sound symphonic. And you have complete control of the reverb eq.
