I remember reading speculation for the Carousel of Progress that the little girl is not one of John and Sarah’s kids, but rather a close relative (cousin)/kid in the neighborhood. That’s always made the most sense to me. She’s never specifically named like Patricia and James. But I really think that the likely answer is that the Imagineers didn’t put that much thought into it all and just needed some extra kids in those scenes to work the equipment/fill out the scene. 5:38

Awesome video!! I noticed the mention of the asteroid crashing down at the end of the attraction during the soft opening, and I actually found out a little while ago that it is a common misconception in the Disney Parks fanbase. The final carnotaurus encounter had always been there since soft opening, there is footage from 1998 that you can see the animatronic in. Now it’s not to say there wasn’t an asteroid effect; because there was a small lighting effect on the roof that is still there today that is supposed to represent the asteroid falling from the sky. People get confused between both these facts. The audio mix I threw together is from 2023 before I found this information out. Sorry for rambling, just clearing up some common misconceptions!

Due to the Wicked Witch's history of her being the first A100, her association to such an iconic character and scene from not only a film, but also an attraction, I cannot see them destroying her. If Buzzy was originally supposed to be in the Disney Archives before someone broke in, I would imagine they'd be planning to put her in the archives as well. Hopefully she stays there and isn't used as spare parts.

Great vid. As far as the COP, none of the characters should age. If should just be the same people, same age, dealing with the updated appliances at the time. Otherwise, they would all be over 100! I can now see the similarities between Red and Sarah. It’s almost an exact replica. It’s funny how she is President Bush! My favorite characters were the Country bears. Simple with slow easy movements. For the most updated animatronics, I really love the super realistic movements of Hondo Ohnaka from Smugglers Run at SWGE. Thank you so much!

The Wicked Witch of the West, the legs/Ruby Slippers, pieces of the faux yellow brick road, Dorothy's basket, tin man's oil can, and a most of the Wizard of Oz costumes and props from the ride are in the archive or given to imagineers. It's complicated with many of the Great Movie Ride props. Because of copyrights on the MGM characters and likenesses they cannot be shown witnout written consent from Warner Bros who is the current distributor. If we wanted to display them at D23 or in a museum it would require certain agreements. Copyright is complicated when you don't own the IP.

Any events that were held on the Great Movie Ride had to be very careful with copyright. There were a few private parties held in Munchkinland and there would be a walk around Glinda character at these events. She was purposefully dressed in a pink and purple tulle gown from an old parade show and a pageant crown to avoid any legal repercussions and save money. There was also the proposal at one point for walk around Oz characters to get people excited for the ride, but Warner Bros is very close with Universal and it was blocked. If Disney hadn't been grandfathered into the license to use "The Wizard of Oz" it would have been a nightmare to license today.

Dude this was such a great vid thank you so much for doing all that research and making it! I really enjoyed the Dinosaur segment since I trouble finding videos on the animatronics that in depth. 5:43 I think some of the reasons they chose the Carnotaurus was 1. Because the version they made was genuinely more terrifying then the average Trex. And number 2. Jurassic Park’s famous dino is their Rexy and park goers might get confused if they decided to do a Trex because Trexs are most connected with Jurassic Park in terms of media. So having a Trex stalking you sounds extremely similar to Jurassic Park the Ride. I think number 2. Is probably the main reason but I could be wrong. :)

I’ve worked at Carousel of Progress for years and trained the attraction for at least eight years. No one seems to have an answer to what happens to the little girl in Act I. She’s known to Cast Members as “Slave Girl” with many guesses of her origins. This was the first time I saw the original Act III before it moved to Florida in 1975. It all makes perfect sense!! With the change they made in Act III featuring Jimmy in his room, why would the little girl be there? They should place her to Act IV perhaps sitting at the dining table reading a book or building a gingerbread house!

i never noticed redd being sarah since i always assumed she WAS the same face as jane from gmr, but i wouldn't put it past them. disney loves reusing the carousel of progress faces, john and patricia as the musicians on spaceship earth, i think one of the 3 ladies answering the phones on spaceship earth is also sarah. the old bride in the haunted mansion at magic kingdom was patricia, and melanie from phantom manor is sarah.

After watching carousel progress in Disneyland for many years I had asked a cast member about the little girl what what was she I was told I can't guarantee it but it was cousin Orville's daughter cuz he was over all the time using the tub in one of the seconds can't guarantee it but that's what I heard and it does make sense. Some 60+ years later I can still sing that song in my seventies and I do frequently for my great-granddaughter. I also hope they will keep this and make an update to it cuz I'd like to see what Disneyland comes up with for say 2040 or 2060. I would also like him to bring that I think it was either the fourth or fifth section which was the beginning of Epcot that big moving City. Unfortunately it's probably been destroyed although I do think somebody has rebuilt parts of it.

I remember the first version finale of CTX - it was awesome. The sky lit up in segments as the meteor whizzed over your head. Then there was an ultra bright flash of light and wind from behind you which seemed to pick up the vehicle and throw iit forward straight at the Carnotaur face which was illuminated by the flash, then the time-travel kicked in and you dropped into the tunnel.

10:24 The ride influencing the film is neat. I believe that the Port Orleans resort influenced parts of the Princess and the Frog film. Like the song describing “stately homes and mansions” and then the shadow man telling the spirits to search “the bayou [and] the quarter.” All things specifically in the resort (not just in the real New Orleans)

You should made a Video about the biggest Problem with nearly all Disney Animatronics, their limited Movements. If you think about it for a Moment, what have all animatronics of human Shape as Similarity? Nearly all of them are Animatronics who standing somewhere and rotate with their Arms like they want to shoo Flys away. The Problem, they never move from their Position or move realistic, like Humans. Compare them with the Universal Epic Universe Animatronics from " Dark Universe: The Monsters of Monsters Unchained" where they say they are the most advanced Animatronics who exist and if I see the Movements they do, I think its right. Compared to the Movements this classical Horror Figures can do, even the A1000 Animatronic is a very limited Animatronic where just Hondo Ohnaka maybe come close. What is a good animatronic? Well for me its Realismus. An animatronic is good, if it move like a Human would do, fluid, natural, different movements. Ride Animatronics have a simple Movement who are running in a Loop so it look similar for each ride who enter the Area the Animatronic is placed and where the Vehicle is not waiting for the Animatronic to finish its loop. Other animatronics like Kylo Ren in rise of the Resistance have more "Screentime" to have a way more complex Animation, who has a Start and a End and not need to run in a Loop. This are the good Animatronics Disney has. From the most simplest in Its a small world, to Cars to the T100 and T1000. How you think a Ride or the rides would be if diney would use the Universal Animatronics and maybe give them a Function to move over the Stage? I guess People would create 6h Ques in such rides, just to see them.^^
