late 80s/90s were the pinnacle of bikes if you didn't want to run a 600 or a bigger. So many cool grey imports that were still actually quick. Fucking cbr500....47hp.

@@1000sofusernames so true. I have a CBR rr 500cc and it’s plenty quick enough and that’s more or less stock from the factory. These big 1100/1200cc sports bikes are simply too heavy. You can’t corner on them and although fast in a straight line their no fun because their handling capabilities is comprised by their sheer size, weight and mass. I much prefer a smaller, lighter bike.

I owned 2 of these in the '90's separated by a Triumph 900 Sprint, and a (temporary bike) Honda CBX750F. The NC29 goes down as one of best, if not the best, bikes I ever owned. It is the only one I bought 2 of (apart from a stolen KR-1S) by choice. I preferred it to a VFR400 NC30 I had previously. If my crappy wrists had been better I would have kept the second one, but the riding position didn't suit.

Stock engine with a pipe and rejet will get 63bhp at the wheel especially the rrr as it had different velocity stacks. Long enough road you could hit 140mph. Brilliant little bikes, I’ve had three.

I owned an RR when I worked in Thailand that had been professionally "tweaked". I rode it to work every day and I took it on the highway late at night some weekends when I headed for the coast. It would hit 130 mph (210K) easily and sustain it on a flat road (speedo was calib to 240Ks). I had a funny argument with a "porch 7/11" prat one day and left him for dead.

it should tap out about 215 to 220 kmh like my zxr400 which shows 135mph top end, then take ten precent and thats the top speed (it 's the leeway manufacturers added in so customers would definitely be speeding if caught)..........i wanted to put a tdm850 motor in the zxr400 chassis after blowing the engine, never got to do it. would have been something 'special' ps, A race tuned engine may just about hit that but wont last long. my brother used to race them and many went pop due to over tuning. desperately wanted a cbr.
@tonymarcuso2 жыл бұрын
@@yetti423 Hi Yetti, happy new year man. What did you change in your engine to get 220 km/h ? The air box ? I mean, how did you tune your engine ?
@yetti4232 жыл бұрын
@@tonymarcuso my zxr 400 was pretty stock uk model-about 60bhp. Imports were restricted from japan/ off memory maybe 115 to 120 kmh though they could be derestricted. Now I'm not sure but believe it may have been cams, cdi (computer), poss airbox and some carb internals. (Try a 400cc racing forum they will know if memories off the mark here.) The person i bought it off had after a rather aftermarket can and most likely jetting since it ran smoothly. It hit 135mph in places (had to convert to kmh in google). It was bought to race my brother and as brothers do two weeks after buying it he moved to the 1000cc class like a tool. So it wound up as a low milage occasional road bike to go with the others. In the end he raced on the track and i'm part of the reason theres so many road Gatos's. The bike had about 13,000 miles on it so the engine was not worn and tolerances were keen. Must point out the manufactures back then loved fibbing about power output and weights, but it did show 135 on the speedo -10% so more like 122 real world speed (Manufacturers do this so they cant be sued). If you want to add power for racing when i looked into track bikes (Sorry this is clocking on for 15 years) firms were making ram air boxes for them. If you cannot find anything here maybe the USA would be a good place to aim at as have seen some 400 racing state side ( on U- tube 6 months ago) so should still be a good supply chain over there. Sorry can't be more help than that, last ride was 2008. hit something rather large and hard and been cleared to drive recently. Shame the 400 went, have been thinking of shoe horning that tdm 850motor into it every time i heard a bike passing my block.. Sorry for essay, hope this helps.
