When Don Carter opened his new center in Tamarac,Fl,I had the honor to bowl against him in thier scratch Peterson point league. He beat me 2 out of 3 but i got him in total. What an absolute gentleman he was. It truly was one of the highlights of my career.

Back in the 60’s a 206 average was County high. I went to a scratch league recently and many of the averages were 220+! A different game today.
@lumberlikwidator8863 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, there are a lot of total hacks nowadays averaging 220-235 and they think they are great or something. The combination of the resin ball and the Typical House Shot have inflated scores and egos to the great detriment of the sport. Back when this match was played these guys had to make really good shots to hit the pocket and they had to be great spare shooters as well. Now you have B and C leaguers carrying a 220 average and missing three or four ten pins a night. Back in the day all you needed was a $25 rubber ball, a decent pair of shoes and a bag to carry it in, and you could go anywhere in the USA and get your strikes and spares if you could hit what you were looking at. Nowadays you can just keep switching balls until you find the one that lets you miss two boards either way and strike. And you have hotheads, sore losers and clowns acting like spoiled little children bowling for major titles. It’s just asinine and terribly expensive and we’re watching the ruination of a great sport that called for accuracy and consistency to reach the top level.

Don Carter was in at least the top 3 bowlers in the last 75 years yes he is dead but if you look at the tougher Lane conditions they bowled under with rubber balls which they now use for spares their strikes did not come that easy back in the 1950s and 1960s He won tournaments that he had to Bowl 100 games and defeated many others and very tough competition such as Dick Weber, Dick Hoover

I have never seen Don Carter bowl, and I always wondered as he was a star when I was a kid. Bowling in general always paid homage to Don Carter, so I always wondered what he was like bowling. This is the first time I've ever seen Don bowl. What a delivery. Very odd. But I guess it's no worse than the 2 handed bowlers of today. Just unusual. Loved it, Thank you for posting.

Yeah I heard about Covina, what a tragedy that was. Of course now what they did to Carolier in NJ also makes me sick inside. Basically turning it into an oversized, overpriced boutique alley called Bowlero and throwing out any professional tournaments that were staples there for years.

all these classic shows I’ve been watching and I’ve literally seen one ten pin left in about 40 of these games over these shows on KZbin. A dime a dozen in today’s game. All the angle of entry and deflection. I’m going back to a rubber ball. EDIT: after watching this show in its entirety, fully retract my statement.

Championship Bowling was, for the most part, a Brunswick show. In 1956 AMF was the hidden sponsor of "Bowling Stars". That show featured scoring which put Championship Bowling to fame. During the production of a TV show, I asked Carmen if the lane condition contributed to his 846 series (the highest ever shot on television at the time). Carmen just smiled.

@jamesmurphy42343 жыл бұрын
Belmo, his rev rate, consistency, angle of attack, and great form will dominate any of these bowlers
@sarpilot1003 жыл бұрын
I think if Belmonte is using today’s equipment on modern synthetic lanes I think it’s no contest, Belmo wins. But if he’s using a brunswick Black Beauty on wood lanes I think it would affect his entry angle a lot and his strike percentage goes way down. Under the old lane conditions and vintage balls the finesse guys like Anthony, Carter and straight up the boards players like Walter Ray would be in the hunt. I would love to see Belmo’s power game on vintage conditions. Very interesting topic.
