Very nice! I climbed the first (Norwegian) grade 8 climb in the Trøndelag region in 1981, but at that time we didn't know about any of the great new spots (like Harbak) that would be discovered over the next 10-20 years. At the time I really loved steep overhangs so Harbak would have been perfect. I'm still climbing, but at 67 is is mostly a case of trying to slow down the inevitable decline.

Really nice to hear a bit of climbing history, thank you for sharing Terje! Climbing something that hard back then is an amazing feat as climbing must have been such a different sport back then. Im glad you are still in the climbing game, such an inspiration! For me Norway is so special place to climb, and there is still much to be developed, especially in Bouldering. Driving through the mountains you can see endless possibilites scattered around! 🙏

@@StoneDisciples It is literally endless! Just driving through Telemark, or taking the boat ride up from the sea via a series of locks, most of the daylong trip you'll have huge cliffs on both sides of the ship.

@@StoneDisciples PS. I was reasonably good at that time, like top 5 in Norway, but only our top climber (Hans Chr Doseth) was close to the international elite. In 1982 on an international climbing gathering in France, Wolfgang Güllich and the top French and British climbers were attempting 8c/8c+ while I was very happy to just swap leads with Finn Dæhli on 7a routes in Verdon, i.e. they were a full number grade stronger. Hans Chr and Finn both died in 1984 on the return from Trango tower.

Oh ok! Still great to push the sport limits locally. What a tragic story of those other strong fellows...
