i really like the dialogue in this video, it gave me a perspective on how important it is for some people. I identify as a cisgender bisexual woman and I can't image hating your chest, and just as I typed that I realised how incredibly privileged that sounded. What I am actually trying to say, is that I really appreciate how open you are being about gender and the struggles with body image.

I've been documenting my top surgery recovery on Instagram and a lot of cis people have expressed very similar sentiments. I find it eye-opening as a trans person to see how cis people view these things, how they react and the internal process of discovery and empathy or understanding happens when we do share these stories, experiences, thoughts, and feelings. Of course, not all cis people are as accepting as this, but it's always appreciated when you do see cis folks who actually take it in and make the effort to understand.

Wow that was super helpful! I feel like most videos about top surgery are mainly about the idea of it but don't explain the process or anything. This video was extremely informative and actually covered a lot of things (like nipple sensation, recovery, etc.) that one would want to know before getting top surgery. Thanks so much!

Ok Ash. I think it's pretty funny how I used to watch your videos many years ago when I was in elementary school when I was straight, cis, and had many friends and no worries, like little kids are... Your channel was still Heythere005, and I thought your videos were so funny and relatable and just great- normal videos like Q and As with friends on helium. Now, like 7 or 8 years later, I found your channel again, and you and I are actually going through some of the same things. I'm bi/pansexual and am feeling body dysphoria and am unsure about my gender and gender expression, et al. I just thought it was strange and funny and awesome that we both changed our style in similar ways over a period of time.

as a breast cancer survivor with a double mastectomy I cannot stress this enough: THINK! Think very, very hard before you go forward to remove completely healthy breasts. It will change not only your body, but also your life. I do not feel "whole" without them and everytime I look at those two scars I feel shitty. It's the same the other way round (probably): If looking at your chest makes you feel bad and you have the feeling you are not you WITH them, go for it and be happy! But please, be absolutely sure about it. It can be tough. Hope you get my point....anyway, you are all wonderful! Grace, you got this! xx from Germany
@StillLife337 жыл бұрын
Sammy Ariel Given her main statement was "Think very, very hard before you go forward to remove COMPLETELY HEALTHY breasts", I am pretty sure she is commenting in relationship to people like Ash. People who would have no real medical reason to remove their breasts. Relating it back to her, someone who didn't have a choice, own experiences with loosing her breasts. A message of: you may not realize how lucky you are to have what you have. So think long and hard before permanently removing something you do not have to get rid of. Nothing she said had anything to do with the subject of reconstructive surgery. I have no idea where you got that. As for the rest of your comment, you come off extremely rude. Someone can have all the support in the world and be informed, yet not be okay with the final out come because they had no choice in the matter to begin with. For example, if someone really close to you dies, are you going to be happy about it? No. Even if you knew about it and had a lot of friends to talk about it with, are you going to happy? No, but you will have to just accept it in the end because there is nothing you can do about it.
@MikaruXDenka7 жыл бұрын
StillLife33 Well, Ash HAS a real medical reason for a top surgery: gender dysphoria. That is a medical thing. But I think Ash's gonna think about it really hard anyway.
@mochpoch7 жыл бұрын
StillLife33 This is exactly what I meant, thank you! Sammy Ariel I intentionally did not want to touch the topic of reconstruction because it is complex and very subjective. Anyway: I am thinking about getting surgery, but at the moment, it is simply not possible. It is not as if you walk into the hospital, grab some silicone and walk out a few hours later with some nice D-Cups. It is a complicated and painful process, which my immune system cannot put up with at the moment. Furthermore, there are tons of methods (silicone, lipofilling....). One more thing...please don´t try to tell me about people with cancer genes ;)

Alexander Camelton don't be guilty at all! top surgery isn't a trans-only thing, nor do people who are trans get offended by others that get it for a different reason. If you aren't happy with your chest it's fine to change it, doesn't matter if you're transitioning or not

I love love love how Jake explained the concept of bodies not always being seen as a gendered thing. As genderflux and a gender non-conforming person, I definitely feel more comfortable with androgyny, but other than my boobs and hair I haven't felt dysphoria with my body. I'm female and quite curvy and it's something I'm very confident about. I see it as sexy but even on my more masculine days, I don't find it contradictory or dysphoric because for me it's something that I feel a connection to personally but not a gender connection to. If that makes any sense at all ha ha.

Is this considered dysphoria? I feel like I shouldn't have boobs. It's not tied to my gender identity or sexuality, I'm a cis lesbian who's actually pretty femme. But I look at my boobs and it just feels weird that I have them, like I'm not supposed to have boobs. I've felt this way as long as I can remember and I'm trying to explain to the best of my ability what it is I feel but it's hard to put into words.

Sorry I can't help answer your question but why don't you just try a binder (or a sports bra if you haven't tried that) you can get different levels of compression & different sizes, so you could even try a size up so it is not as tight... Just to see if it makes you happier with your appearance.
@12159267 жыл бұрын
Sammy Ariel Thank you for your suggestion. Sports bras don't really help. I think I'm going to look into a binder. I might just try to be happy the way I am. I'll see where life takes me.
@nonbinarystarsystem7 жыл бұрын
If you want a comfortable binder I would go with gc2b. I've tried most all the brands and this is the only one that's come close. Dysphoria can be categorised a few ways but if you think having a reduction or removal would make you happier and more comfortable in your body there's absolutely no reason to not look into it.

I've read that T-anchor is more likely (though not 100%) to preserve nipple sensation because they don't completely remove your nipples.. but I think they'll almost always be pretty numb after surgery for awhile (sometimes up to a year) from what I've read about surgery. I'm pretty sure I want T-anchor for that reason (can't have the kind with almost no scarring unfortunately :/)
@Koiyouu7 жыл бұрын
I'm from Canada, and over here to start hormones all I had to do was sign a self referral/consent form and I was able to start T a few weeks after (I believe you have to be 18 or older though). Also my consultation for top surgery was free and the cost was roughly $2000 rather than $8000 for surgery itself because it was mostly covered by OHIP which stands for Ontario Health Insurance Plan, I also only had to wait roughly a year until the day of my surgery which is actually next month! I feel very lucky to live where I do because I understand it's very difficult for others to start HRT or get the surgery they desire.

Just out of curiosity- Do you guys think breast implants are a fair comparison to having top surgery? In my mind both surgeries come from the same place of not liking or not identifying with your body and then choosing to do something about it to either enhance your own self confidence or assist you in feeling more comfortable within your skin. Thoughts ?
@NotAnotherKuromi7 жыл бұрын
I think if the women has no breasts, or is nearly completely flat then yes is is the same. However for the women who have regular sized or just a little smaller breasts then I do not think it is the same thing. Top surgery for trans guys is not just about feeling better but also about representing who you are.
@laurajudd67857 жыл бұрын
Would you not agree that increasing your breast size would ultimately be doing the same thing ? If you wanted to be more feminine and that's the image you wanted to portray to society by getting implants ?
@julianc37017 жыл бұрын
Basically, if men and women were apples and oranges (going binary for simplicity's sake), sure, some oranges would look in the mirror and think they're too small, too big, or too oddly-shaped of an orange...but then there are a few rare apples who look in the mirror and, to their horror, see an orange staring back instead. To me, that is the difference.
@MB-xh4gf7 жыл бұрын
Laura Judd I don't believe theyre similar at all. Women who get breast implants generally do so to enhance their appearance. As that is a purely cosmetic surgery. Whereas transgender men have the medical condition Gender Dysphoria which is the extreme discomfort with their secondary sex characteristics. Transgender men bind their chest with something similar to a compression shirt, to give them the appearance of a male chest. Binding your chest is pretty uncomfortable and limiting. I have been binding for almost 3 years. Its a pain in the ass, but I have such extreme discomfort not wearing the binder. Because of this, I can't go swimming, and don't feel comfortable wearing just a tshirt in front of anyone. So really, I think top surgery and breast implants are entirely different.
