Yeah. I've played Brothership, and it's an alright game. Some of its characters were pretty good. The new mechanics and ideas were cool. Bros Attacks do have some Easter egg references to the past ones. Even the reefs do it as well. I've found that IGN's review is just problematic. Yes, the game is difficult in the bosses, but I respect them trying to change it up. The island gimmick personally was a nice chance and wasn't one gargantuan world and being multiple smaller worlds.

Personal dishonorable mention: Chuggaaconroy allegations. While not technically a part of the gaming industry, it still shows the dangers of hatemobbing. Earlier this year, a youtuber named Lady Emily came forward with allegations of Chuggaaconroy being a creep. This caused people to start mobbing Chuggaa, and even former friend MasaeAnela got in on the bandwagon... only for it to be revealed that Lady Emily took private screenshots out of context to make him look bad. This led to Chuggaa going on a temporary hiatus for six months and getting therapy. Again, while it's not bad in the sense of any of these companies, it's baffling how easily a lot of people turned on him because of these baseless accusations.

Bonus Dishonorable mention: the Chuggaaconroy allegations in January. While he wasn’t 100% innocent of everything, everything was definitely overblown and most of it should’ve stayed private. Especially considering how it affected Emile’s health afterwards. A lot of it was already handled privately but it got dragged to the public because the first person was salty that someone on Reddit called Emile wholesome

Pretty much 95% of what he was accused of was a load of shit and it nearly got him killed, what little he did was a product of its time and typical teenage stupidity and let’s not forget his biggest accuser was 10x’s more guilty, flat out admitted to predatory behvaior. Giving away 3 pulls for 3 years and creating a huge bloodbath between content creators to the point where I felt horrible for the attacked party. To make the long story short: the "Villain" was the nice guy, the "Nice guy" was an actual seewee head (keep it Pg-13) that sabotaged the "Villain's" and another guys life(which this guy had his life ruined 4 years prior because of him) just because he was the head of creators support and said "Nah, you are creeps that attacked me first". And let's not mention how predatory was this game to the point of wondering if the game industry needs this type of predatory live service :/.

Edit: I am being told that at least most of the Tera Leak was apparently False. But even then an entire gaming community getting decived on this magnitude is still fail worthy to me. I am surprised that there is 0 Mention of the Pokemon Tera Leak. Where a Malicious Pishing attack caused Game Freak to lose over a Terabyte of data. Ranging from Beta info for their Old, Cancelled, Upcoming, and Unannounced games, to even Personals of old and current Game Freak Employees.

I think that was cause some of the stuff reported on in the leak turned out to be fake. Like those beta designs of the BW main protagonist Hilda and Hilbert, some of the supposed schematics for what the Switch 2 is supposed to look like, or how Hilda was used as a base for Calem's model in XY, etc were all confirmed false. Btw if you saw any of the info from Centro Leaks i would take everything he says with a grain of salt. The guy is notoriously known for being wrong on the info he gets and he's been on a doomposting tirade online saying the hardware for the Switch followup is weaker than the current console.

To be fair, Nintendo would’ve been a lot lower in the 2023 fails when you consider the fact that Gary Bowser was hated by emulator users, and the punishment he received was Justice and the Pokémon stuff were not really Nintendo’s fault but rather the Pokémon company, game freak and creatures Inc. And while I do find the restriction of the tournaments to be harsh, I feel like Nintendo had a very understandable reason on why they did this even if it’s not official.

Someone who can understand Mandarin here. Regarding the Black Myth: Wukong CEO's infamous line of "writing a game acceptance speech 2 years in advance", the situation is a lot more complicated. If you had read and properly translated the entire Weibo post, he was actually comforting and thanking the players for their faith for expecting BMW to win GOTY despite already winning Best Action Game and Player's Voice. Even when Astro Bot won, you can see that the CEO was happy for them when watching the Game Awards. The infamous line regarding the pre-written speech was to show that Game Science wasn't deflated by losing out on GOTY and will promise to do even better, using exaggeration to show it while joking about being salty. Most of the discourse you read about came from Alanah Pearce saying that "one of the Black Myth Wukong dev team was crying" when the GOTY was announced which was conflated with the infamous "2 year in advance" line, resulting in what you all saw. However, when translated and pasted on a message board rather than an actual interview, interpretation and given tone can vary from person to person. There are even Chinese players who thought the CEO was being disrespectful as well.

Regarding Stellar Blade, I have a few things to say: 1) Calling a "painfully dull" hack-n-slash when it received mostly positive reviews even from people who'm played games like NieR: Automata kinda feels like a way for Josh tl say the game had nothing to offer beyond "dumptruck ass." 2) The whole censorship thing was kinda blown out of proportion because at the end of the day the game is still more shamelessly sexualized than series that have been purposely sanitized and censored like Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil. 3) I'm surprised Josh didn't mention how IGN went on a tirade about how "whoever designed Eve most be a a virgin man who has never seen a woman" when said character designer is actually a married man with kids but Eve's model was made via scanning a REAL LIFE WOMAN. Unsurprisingly, they had to backtrack with that statement after severe backlash, but still, what the hell is wrong with some people thinking conventionally attractive women with big breasts don't exist and are just fictional creations of Asian perverts?

Literally at the start of 2024, there was a bit where some NPCs in Goddess of Victory: Nikke were plagiarized from a random character figure. Unlike Stellar Blade, the damage was already done by the time of release where the illustrator of the figure, neco (i think that was there name) threatened legal action against Shift-Up. Thankfully they settled it outside of court and the characters were altered/removed. I really hope Shift Up keeps a closer eye on their art department after all of that nonsense.

Hey Josh Correction on the Kadokawa Sony deal. While Sony doesn’t bought Kadokawa, they’ve made an arrangement deal and Sony became one of Kadokawa’s shareholder. One of the reason (which most people don’t research on) is why is it Sony was interest in buying out Kadokawa. The rumor or speculation was that Kadokawa was the one offering a deal with Sony since one of Kadokawa’s other shareholder, kakao was interested in buying out Kadokawa. And well, Kakao has a a known track record for doing a lot of scummy things in their historical catalogue: overworking their employees, caused a miscarriage to one of the manhwa artist. Stock manipulation, etc. and Kadokawa wanted to remain a Japanese company so they approach Sony for the deal. But Japan monopoly laws prevent companies from being a monopoly, they made a deal that Sony became one of Kadokawa’s shareholders Also on a side note that in the 2020s, Kadokawa was dealing with a lot of issues. With their chairman arrested and had his trial, the infamous ransomware attack in 2024

Dishonorable Mention: *Dustborn -Yeah, what was the point of this game again? It's a forgettable game on it's own but the controversy surrounding it is like a cross between the political preachiness of Life is Strange 2 and the controversial sh!tstorm that was Hatred. The remake would be getting flak over this no matter what they did. It's sad because Vivian is my favorite character to come out of the Paper Mario series (and second only to Waluigi in the entire Mario franchise), and whether or not she's trans had absolutely nothing to do with it. Seriously, this whole debacle is (part of) why I absolutely refuse to play the remake.

The "original Japanese" you're talking about that KaiserNeko posted about is from the remake, whose script was rewritten. Even if that were the original GCN version, the line in question translates to something like "I have the heart of a cute girl", which is in no way a confirmation of the character being trans. It reads more like cringe anime femboy talk, which given that femboy characters in Animal Crossing were censored in the West on the same platform, I'm inclined to believe Vivian was in a similar boat. Because otherwise, you're expecting me to believe that 2000s Conservative Japan, which prior made Birdo as a big ole "hah hah he thinks he's a girl" joke, was more progressive than America, which was in a "g4y panic" during that time period, and that's just extremely implausible.

The Sag-Aftra Strikes piss me off to no end. Right after the Hollywood Strike they had signed a deal with an AI Company for doing what they claim Hollywood was doing throwing the hard work of the actors... UNDER THE BUS, during the video game strike I wanna say 4 months in THEY DO THE SAME THING throwing Voice Actors UNDER THE BUS while still strangely striking the video game companies, one of their members who is a negotiator between Hollywood and the game companies for negotiations made a video that was essentially mocking the voice actors, it's deleted now but it's probably on KZbin Somewhere. What's worse is Sag-Aftra enforcing their will to streamers who also happen to be voice actors of their union to strictly follow the guidelines of don't play anything regarding the struck games but regular people can still play them on streams. THE BIGGEST example is Hoyoverse, a company not struck in ANYWAY but a studio they used to partake in with getting voice lines with their voice actors was I believe it was Formosa. THEY WEIRDLY had it to where the actors couldn't voice in ANY of the Hoyo games during the strike so anything that was made during it, some characters in English were not voice acted at all because of this, in Genshin, HSR and Zenless Zone Zero. HERE IS THE KICKER, only GENSHIN was using Formosa BEFORE the Strike began and while the strike was going on, GENSHIN itself stopped working with Formosa and was using the company for voice acting the other games were USING. The biggest kick in the pants for all this. The forcing of actors not to work with Hoyoverse while they still used Formosa for Genshin(again stopped during the strike) couldn't voice act in ANY of the games or play them on their own streams even though the other games used a different company for voice acting....WASN'T BECAUSE OF AI USAGE, it was because of Formosa's constant scandals with paying voice actors their fair share which to be fair FORMOSA was guilty of with certain actors. The thing was the actors GOT THEIR PAY because both the fandom of Genshin and Hoyoverse got involved MAKING SURE THEY GOT PAID in the constant fuckery Formosa was doing. The WEIRD signaling out Hoyoverse games in their entirety because of one studio they used for voice actors for ONLY ONE GAME and the rest was a different studio was SO STRANGE when the problem SAG claimed was strictly for AI. NOT FOR the money issue. Another weird thing Sag Aftra did which was super low key under the radar was MOCKING THE GAME AWARDS while the game awards was going on by giving struck companies fake awards for being naughty in their eyes....the worst part of this weirdness was, THEY DID NOTHING OF THE SORT FOR HOLLYWOODS Award Show(The Golden Globe Awards...think it's what it's called correct me if I'm wrong) when that was still going on during the Hollywood strike.....Sag-Aftra as a Union is doing LOTS of weird unhinged stuff during this strike compared to the Hollywood one. And both the Actors and gamers have to suffer for it

Ubisoft disbanding the team behind Prince of Persia the Lost Crown was another big fail for 2024. The game was excellent and was my personal GOTY for 2024 but more people didn’t support it. The reasons vary from not liking the shift from third person action/adventure to a 2.5D Metroidvania, the art style, the design of the main character, and the music used in the reveal trailer. Though I personally think the music point was greatly exaggerated.

Good to know I'm not alone in this! Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is undeniably the ONLY good game Ubisoft released in 2024 by a long shot. And this is coming from someone who has NEVER played any Ubisoft games prior. It definitely helps that it was developed by the same studio that created Rayman (not just the originals from the 90s and early 2000s, but also Origins and Legends). Those guys KNOW platforming, and thankfully they translated it very well into a Metroidvania format. While I'm glad Ubisoft Montpellier hasn't been shut down as a whole, breaking up the Lost Crown team is still a major disservice to us. I can only hope that their accomplishments are properly appreciated with whatever projects they work on going forward. That said, I do have some other Ubisoft games on my radar, like the recent 20th anniversary edition of Beyond Good & Evil, any of the mainline Rayman games, and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game, just to name a few. This is not out of any love for Ubisoft as a company, as I wouldn't bat an eye were they to crash and burn tomorrow. I just know what I like, that's all.

@ Before the Lost Crown the only Ubisoft game I played before was Immortals Fenyx Rising and really enjoyed it despite the micro transactions shoved into a single player game. I’ll definitely be keeping my eye on Ubisoft’s Montpellier’s next game because they’re a talented studio. It was thanks to the Lost Crown that I became a fan of the PoP series. I’ve played and beat the PoP Sand Trilogy and am currently working my way through PoP 2008.

@@ronniefazzio6979 I tried the demo for Immortals Fenyx Rising ages ago. Turns out, *not a fan.* I dunno, it just felt like the controls were actively working against me. I instinctively hit a button, thinking I would attack... only to dodge. Maybe I could have remapped some of them, but I couldn't find where and also at that point didn't give enough of a shit to really look. By the time I came to the first boss, I'd had enough, so I deleted the demo from my Switch and I've never looked back. It's a shame, since it seems like it had a lot of promise, but I just couldn't muster the ability to care after that.

Here's a Dishonorable Mention to throw onto the pile: KingsIsle, the developers of Wizard101 and Pirate101. Their trashy community manager (Sparck), who doesn't even play the game, interviewed a guy who was CONFIRMED TO HAVE STALKED AN EMPLOYEE THERE, and when the other community manager (Hawkules) couldn't take it anymore, he let himself get fired, and dropped a BOMBSHELL about Sparck, and KingsIsle's general unprofessionalism on his Twitter on the way out the door. OOF. That poor man Hawkules deserved so much better than that.

There's absolutely no shadow of a doubt that Suicide Squad Kill The Justice League deserves its own entry. Not only for being a horrible story with garbage writing and being a live service grind fest that nobody asked for. But also for being the game that almost killed Rocksteady as a studio before they got the opportunity to work on a Game of the Year edition of Hogwarts Legacy. You know it's bad when a VR Arkham game feels more like a Batman game that people actually want!

True. Vivian has been confirmed trans since 2004. It isn't really up for debate and the people arguing against this fact are so obviously biased and agenda driven. She was censored in the english and german translations of TTYD back on the gamecube, and the japanese version of Super Paper Mario called her a femboy, yes, but in every other translation in both the OG version and the remake (minus Chinese and Russian for the remake due to those country's strict censorship laws) Vivian is explicitly transgender.

I actually asked Josh a question on their livestream about which video game console manufacturer would drop out first (Just as Sega did.), and he said Microsoft. And seeing them top the fails list, it's less like they're shooting themselves in the foot with bad decisions, and more shooting a canon in their legs with their disasterous greed and neglegence. At this point, them dropping out and becoming a third party developer would probably be a good thing, just so they don't have to worry so much about losing too much money. Sony and Nintendo can stay, since while they've had fails, they're nowhere near as monumental, and their consoles and games are still mostly successful. As another gaming reviewer once said (Either Rerez or ScottTheWoz.), your console can be the most advanced technology out there, but without games to support it, then what's the point of making a console at all?
