Manny I have to tell you how much you have helped me. I was a frustrated bass player for years until I started viewing your videos. Started slowly with full understanding or minor/major then finding similar notes on the neck. Your explanation of theory that had been eluding me for years encouraged me to learn more. Now instead of people telling me that I cannot play they simply sit stunned, thanks to YOU !!!!! Wish I could take online Skype lessons with you ! All the best and keep Groovin :} P.S. My Spanish is limited but I still listen you communicate so well and always seem to be sooo Happy.

doctordave I agree. That was one hot bass line from the 80’s. I love playing that song on my bass. And “ Red, Red wine” also has a nice bass line.

Really nice playing, video production, tabs and everything. One suggestion: play what the tabs show. The extraneous grace notes make it difficult for those learning to connect the tab to the playing.

classics !! Taylor from duran duran is such a great bassist with a smooth funky vibe although i think i prefere the bass in Rio and A view to a kill .. Also i'd put tony levin there hes just freakin amazing in King Crimson and with Peter Gabriel

That would be great, "Foxy Lady" by Pleasure is one of my favorites. It's from the '70's, but Nathan Phillips is amazing on that one too. I saw him play "Foxy Lady" live once, he stunned.

Hola! excelentes videos! tengo dos preguntas: 1. En mis momentos de estudio, me esfuerzo por no repetir dedos en la digitacion de la mano derecha, pero veo que tu sueles repetir mucho el dedo indice, no afecta esto a tu desempeño? o es uno de esos vicios que uno no corrigio a tiempo al empezar? :) 2. veo que usan como un amarre de cabello en el cuello del bajo, cual es su finalidad? muchisimas gracias!

1. Yo alterno los dedos cuando tengo que tocar algo bien rápido. Si no tengo que tocar rápido entonces uso el dedo que quiera. Me eh dado cuenta que hay una pequeña diferencia en el sonido cuando uso un solo dedo en vez de dos. Sucede que a veces prefiero el sonido que produzco con mi dedo índice. 2. Eso se llama "Fret Wrap" esto ayuda a controlar el sonido para que suene más limpio.

If you decide to do another top 10 80s basslines, One Thing Leads to Another by The Fixx, and Something About You by Level 42 have great basslines.

Thanks Tim. I was under the impression that the low note was done with an octave pedal or recorded later on. But from now on I'll include the low note as well

i figured it was synth then watched the session player on a bass guitar video going over some of his jackson/quincy jones high lights. louis Johnson gave off the wall and thriller a more organic pulse during an age of sequence.

Great playing and good list but no Rush? No Duran Duran? Rio to me is probably the best bass line of the decade and there are so many amazing Rush bass lines and RHCP was quite popular with Flea killing it. As someone who grew up in the 80s I would change at least half the list.
