I just got this laptop a week ago from amazon, it is a refurbished one, with 8GB RAM and 180 SSD and for the moment is working great! I use it for zoom and teams meetings, reading some pdf documents, do homework on ppt or word, listening to music on spotify/youtube, watch movies...so I fully recommend it for students :)! also the starting its super fast, as the starting of other apps.

@@chow8750 it's definitely smooth! All the options in zoom work great in this lap. Even the definition of image on videocalls it's very nice👍. And I haven't had lags for the moment

I still have and love this laptop ... especially the backlit keyboard. I'm running Linux Mint, and am very pleased. I'll be replacing the battery tonight so I can squeeze a few more years. Mine has an I7 processor, and I've updated the memory to 16G.

Why use backlight under light? Because the transparent material use light the make letters/numbers shine, is hard to see them while been off (design flaw)... Considering the life-spam/consumption of small leds I would run them 24/7 without worrys. Crazy how so many kids wanna play video-games on this things, sure all of them are gonna be able soon enough, even the low-ends, but I be happy with fast browsing and full support for every kind of media content. Resolution is 1600x900 right? hard to get full-HD IPS for the price but sure is better than 720p. People don't bother do proper benchmark on this things, like testing wi-fi connection under a low and high signal. My sister upgrade her cellphone/notebook over the years and you can truly see small improvements that really make the internet browsing a way faster/better experience.

They are extremely similar, the 9480m has slightly newer technology though. Some of this technology includes; a slightly big SSD, a slighter better video graphics processor, a slightly better battery life and more. Hopefully this answers your question, thanks for watching.

Hi ! I'm using that laptop for my work, and so far it's been great with the exception of two things: 1) the fan is noisy when running difficul formulas in Excel 2) there´s an alternative "mouse" between the letters g and h in the keyboard, however the plastic that simulates the mouse gets loose :/

I know I'm one year late but I thought it would be worth sharing. 1) Open up the machine, clean it up and replace the thermal paste. This model is from 2013, perhaps manufactured up until 2014. That thermal paste is at least 8 years old, it must be all dried up by now lol. 2) Try to use some non-permanent adhesive such as liquid silicone or thin double-sided tape. Mine also came off pretty easily until I glued it in place. Don't use epoxy or other resin-based bonders, they're brittle and will most likely damage any materials they come in contact with.

@@ohwoevwokelvin9708 oops , I don’t have that laptop any more. I used it daily and the only issue that I had was while running advanced Excel ( pivot tables , macros ). My father now owns that computer and he hasn’t had any issue with it ; buuuuut he does not use Excel.

I use one of these from 2015 with Cubase and Ableton.Upgraded to 16gb of Ram. This is the best you can find. The strong point is the Low latency measured with Latencymon. Remember the latency isn't dependant from power unit but with drivers.

I've owned one of these with i7 for about 3 years now. Awesome laptop! My only gripe is the branded hp charger shit the bed, which is no big deal cause you can buy generics. But those some times last a year or two months. Lol

Hi Pohana, which battery? The CMOS ( AKA watch/coin battery) or the main battery? Either way, yes you can replace them yourself. Also, I believe that the 9480M has a 2MP webcam. Hope this helps.

When I opened the Laptop, I came across two ports inside, one is labeled mSATA, then the other is right below the VGA port. What is mSATA? Is the port under the VGA an expansion port for graphics card, in case of gaming? I put a sim card in the sim slot, but it's not working, what do I do?

Hi, I want to add an SSD to my empty M.2 2242 slot and there's a few questions that I have when skimming the manual from HP website. 1. There's not a single mention of NVME at all in the manual, it is safe to say that it isn't compatible with my laptop ? 2. The manual listed 120GB SSD as the maximum for the M.2 slot, can I get a much higher capacity SSD than that ?

Hello. I think the manual saying "m.2 ssd" is actually a mistake. This unit, much like other models from 2013 and older, takes mSATA SSDs, not m.2 SSDs. mSATA SSDs can be found at capacities up to 2TB if you're willing to buy a Samsung T3 pull. Else, the largest good quality retail mSATA SSD you can get is the 1TB Samsung 860 EVO. I'm using a 250GB 860 EVO and it's doing great!

@@YeOldeKamikaze It's absolutely an M.2 2242 SSD slot at least on my Folio 9480M as I've opened it up before. If I'm not mistaken, mSATA has 2 screws hole while M.2 only have 1. HP official SSD replacement guide video on KZbin shows it having an M.2 slot rather than mSATA. But I've seen other 9480M that does in fact have mSATA instead in other repair videos. Even the BIOS on my laptop still refers it being mSATA. Maybe HP haphazardly change the slot in later production models ? I've already bought an 128GB Transcend MTS430S and it fit on my laptop motherboard. It's a normal SATA III M.2 SSD, I doubt it supports NVMe considering the inconsistent information. At least it faster than the hard drive I used previously.

@@leqzman2326 Well, that's interesting. I posted that based on the information found on the official service manual, which is also ambiguous to say the least. They refer to the SSD as being an M.2 drive but the illustrations clearly show an mSATA drive, just as you said, a bit shorter but chunkier and having two screw holes instead of just one. Regarding NVME support, you're probably right, I wouldn't expect it to support NVME SSDs either. Native support for NVME came with Skylake chipsets and this machine is two generations behind. Moving a platform from mSATA to SATA M.2 must be a straight-forward change compared to NVME. Too bad it doesn't mean much in terms of upgradability because it's limited to M.2 2242 drives which are scarce and often top out at 1TB because there's simply not enough space for more flash chips, unlike mSATA where some models are known to accomodate up to 2TB. Yes, HP must have released several variants of the same model, though I'm a bit bothered they didn't change the SKU, at least as far as I know. Not exactly common practice, but it's known to have happened in the past. I've opened up quite a bunch of HP laptops by following their official service manuals only to find some screws were of a different kind, placed differently or outright missing on the actual machine haha. I would most definitely be annoyed to order a 9480M and a large mSATA drive, only to find it takes m.2 drives instead.
