i'm so happy when the riders that whip the crap out of their horses fall! im sitting here saying "fall fall fall!" and if you are nice to your horse, the horse is not going to throw you off! i never use spurs or a whip on my horse! and he jumps everything and has never disobeyed me! im laughing my butt off when the "mean" riders go in the water :P

Pernille Fredheim yeah because you have a forward going horse that’s very easy for you to say try having a lazy horse that won’t move and barely get overt fences you need a crop so they won’t actually hurt themselves .

LMAO lucky you. I ride a spoilt 15 hand cob, I need my whip sometimes. I never “whip the crap” out of him though, because that’s just out of order tbh. If I need a boost my instructor will get the lunge whip out and get it behind him, or I will hit my boot with my whip (it makes a CRACK sound). The thing is, if I don’t get him forwards or I don’t get him moving, he will learn it’s fine to turn in when he wants (not even breaking a sweat lol) or to just buck or stand still until I give up and get off him. That’s how horses get spoilt and have to be sold as pasture pets when they haven’t even reached 17y/o. Good for you for having such an easy horse, but not all horses are like yours.

He wasn't hitting him to go faster... Horses lose impulsion when going through water, so sometimes its necessary to use a crop during water jumps. My horse WILL refuse jumps out of water if i don't use my crop because she loses the impulsion as we go through it. Think of water like a vacuum sucking all their impulsion away.

I feel like for number 1, the horse was like, "wow look at all this shit, where do I go?" And the rider is looking one way but isn't really giving the horse any hints other than that. At the last second the rider tries to change course just as the horse was like "this jump?". I think that one was total rider error (maybe, I'm novice). But I can totally see myself doing that to my horse XD
