Slight correction on Sensui. The humans tormenting Demons thing is what he learned when a job put him in contact with the Black Book Club, and he saw them betting on death matches between captive demons. Chapter Black is a video containing the atrocities that humans perpetrate against *each other*. Wars, slavery, genocide, the whole nine yards. The danger of the chapter black tape is that without the context and hope in the accompanying chapter white tape, it could turn just about anyone against humanity.

Yep, actually, it's one of the two best anime i've ever seen. I rate it a 9.9/10. The same rating i give original Dragon Ball. Not DBZ, the precursor anime to DBZ. DBZ is in my top 10 though. Anyway. I can't tell whether YYH is the number 1 best, or number 2 best. Because i find YYH to have better sad moments, and DB to have better funny moments. The comedy in Dragon Ball isn't as good as some youtube poops, but i find it to be the best in anime. The sad and depressing parts of YYH literally hit me harder than the passings of my own real life family members. I guess that's because i just didn't wanna look weak, in front of my own family... but whatever. Point is, YYH is either the #1 or #2 GOAT anime.

I rewatched YYH a few years ago-and was just so happy that it has aged pretty well. It has some early anime quirks that aren't as grating as say early DB/DBZ. You're making me wanna rewatch it again (and again go into the rant that we never got the new OVA that came out dubbed)

yu yu hakusho was a show I'm so glad I took the time to watch, a few years ago at this point but it was still relatively recent. Toguro has this incredible introudction. you think he's just a body guard for a pretty minor villain, and then he contacts Yusuke, and goes "watch this" then levels an entire parking garage. "You will enter the Dark Tournament, and you will fight, and if you do not win, you will die". the absolute fear that Yusuke felt when he realized how out of his league he was. then practically every fight is a masterclass in its own right. there's that crummy justification where Yusuke's opponents were rules lawyering him, but it meant Kuwabara got a chance to prove his own power. there's the first fight where we find out the scale of Kurama's power. or the one where Hiei reveals his black dragon flame. that stuck with me, how Hiei didn't even want to fight when he realized his opponent was this respected fighter or something, he even apologized to the man, but he incinerated him anyway. it reminds you that Hiei and Kurama, no matter how much they've become like friends, are still demons. they have a different standard to act on. the guys who fight Yusuke are honestly lucky that they got the chance to live. probably.

I have been waiting for this video for so long. This is my favorite anime EVER! I literally ate dinner watching this. Great list. I actually considered Hiei to be a Final Boss because of Yusuke beginning mission where he had to retrieve those items. He killed Gouki, helped Kurama, and Hiei was a fight that lasted a couple episodes I think. Also, the Beautiful Suzuki was the Final boss of his team but he was weaker than the front man Shishiwakamaru, Genkai said it herself and she beat him with only punches where with Shishi she had to take his energy and use spirit reflection blast twice! Love your list and doing this anime.

One thing I love about #9 is that it’s a Reversal of the upcoming fight that Genkai fights. “Strength that makes even the most learned technique outmoded. That’s is Strength Absolute!” Genkai does this to Suzuki and then Toguro does it to her right after.

“Dark Tournament” arc of Yu Yu Hakusho was the epitome of anime itself. It created a pathway for other anime’s to use this concept and created a platform for each of the characters to explore their personalities and backstory. It was an effective way to learn about a wide array of characters whilst still giving us action. DBZ and Naruto is for kids, but YYH is for people of refined taste. Something the later wouldn’t understand.

This was a fun video; thanks for making it! Hard to go against Younger Toguro as the best final boss, so to speak. I enjoy Sensui a lot, and I prefer Chapter Black over The Dark Tournament on the whole, but the Sensui final fight serves more as stage setting for Three Kings than a satisfying final fight. The Younger Toguro fight, OTOH, is shonen perfection, IMO. Tons of build up, looming menace, emotional struggle, and damn near perfect pacing.

The dark tournament is easily the best arc in the series. I really enjoyed the first part of chapter black. You feel you really know the group, and they feel like a fully formed team. The psychics all having unique powers that test the hero’s in different ways was pretty creative and subverted the trope of “he with the biggest knuckles wins.” The ending however, ruined it for me. Pretty much when Jesus yuseke gets back in the fight. Were the dark tournament ended just as it should. Yusuke learns how to fully tap into his powers, togoro’s story reaches its conclusion, and the tournament was destroyed. It even lead to the next arc. The only change I would make of it would be to keep genkai dead. First off bringing someone back to life is hard, see first arc for details. Second, genkai’s arc also concluded alongside togoro’s, and she doesn’t really need to be in the rest of the story.

You just gotta love Chu, the whole sui ken stuff, the style, the personality. In the latam dub the last fight with the knives is called "duelo a muerte con cuchillos", it's one of the most memorable moment of the whole show. As for the number one, it's hard to find reasons why younger Toguro doesn't deserves that spot, it has a great build up, from a story and character perspective, it's a contant threat, even the events of the fight and how he pushes Yusuke beyond his limits by threatening and harming his friends makes the tension go up, and it has one of the best conclusions to an arc. Beggining, middle and end are just great. As for other characters that aren't last bosses but i would have love to see Elder Toguro and Sniper come to my mind.

Dr. Ichigaki was my favourite minor villain in the whole series. I always love the "over the top" evil guys and its so funny how he riles up Kuwabara and Yusuke. Plus the laughing lol, it made me crack up every time. My only complaint was how in the end he just becomes another Generic buff demon they had to beat up. kinda wish his character was more of the 'weak big mouth' who used people to fight for him, or for a more satisfying ending had his team turn against him. Still, the Dark tournament is probably my favourite arc.

I like Kinnikuman better than YYH. Each character has a unique fighting style with weakness. And its especially amazing since all the characters except the MC are summited by fans. Some of these became major antagonist and even protagonists. One even got his own spin-off series because how popular he is: Ramenman. I honestly forgot most of the antagonist in YYH. The exceptions were the Toguro brothers, Shinsui and the 3 demon kings who's name I admittedly forgot. I guess we can count Hiei. Sensui made no sense to me like the gun you mentioned. How is having a different personality give you the ability to turn into a cyborg? Also not all personalities got explored making the number of personalities pointless.

Your friend is right. I like Yu Yu Hakusho but the pacing did feel off in those Rando fights. Yusuke and Kuwabara are basically high school students with above average strength. Then all of a sudden, they are fighting Rando who is this super boss with 99 moves. It did make the fight feel scarier but at the same time they were trying to hype up Kuwabara vs Rando and at that point you haven't really seen Kuwabara win a fight, so it seemed obvious that Rando would win.

I love You you Hakusho but I never thought of this until I watched this. Every single major Villain help Yusuke defeat themselves. Tagoro did everything to help Yusuke get strong enough to kill him when he could have just crushed him. Senswi manipulates everything knowing he will die in the end. Yomi not only agrees to having a fight with rules but gives Yusuke a pep talk and loses his position of power by fighting to rules that wore him down. Pretty interesting.

Mr. Yoshihiro Togashi knows how to write top tier villains from YYH to HxH which holds some of the greatest villains in anime, I favor CB arc. antagonist Sensui the most tho.

"You are a teacher, have some class man." Yeah..this is an anime..there is plenty of high-school scenes but no one ACTAULLY holds any recognizable classes. Unless "discretly communicate with other students while teacher just zones off into a thousand yard stare offscreen" or "completely silent teacher calls on you out of the blue just to interupt your discreet communications but doesn't actually have anything shcool relevant to say" classes are taught in Japan.

There's only one 'Final' Boss and that's Yomi. Others are Main Antagonists of certain arcs. But the last battle is between Yomi and Yusuke and should be labeled as that. With that said, my personal fight will always be Tugoro vs Yusuke for the simple fact that it was a straight up 1 v 1 and there was such a huge connection between Tugoro and Yusuke.

I adore both this anime and HxH and think Togashi is the UNDISPUTED king of battle shonen storytelling. Toguro and Sensui are both some of my favorite anime villains, along with Chrollo and Meruem from HxH (writing villains is what Togashi does best), but among the two, I prefer Sensui, because I love his backstory as a former spirit detective whose great sense of justice got completely screwed up and the goal of his life was basically for naught. , also I, despite the plot twist of Yusuke going demon coming out of left field,really liked the ending as it's a precursor to Gon's cruel and tragic execution of Neferpitou, a subversion of both the super saiyan mode and the concept of the friends enduring against the enemy (no nakama boost, Yusuke's friends simply cannot hope to match Sensui) and it's also very deserved as an ending for the character, as Sensui wants to die at the hands of a demon and not be judged by Enma, in a way to apologize for having treated demons so badly. Not to mention that he's a lesbian for Itsuki and his relationship with him is portrayed as genuine love and also serves to show that he's not completely lost himself ,
