My go to CD is always the Minor Threat CD - play that one all the time & guess I always will

Agree, Minor Threat, 1 of the greatest bands ever

Agree 100%, another that is just as good for me is the Total Recall compilation of Negative Approach.

Nice one, Mike, liked this a lot. Funnily enough, I was quite mystified by your first eight, but the last three are all records that I own (it's not funny that I was mystified, what's funny is that I actually own some of these albums, and that they all came in a row at the end!!)...

Good choice, I was at the Bad Brains Astoria gig i thought it was a bit meh, having seen them a few years before at the Clarendon when they were on fire. I saw Scream a couple of times too, and they were always excellent

Nice selection, often I wonder if people these days even listen to the records they claim are the best early hc punk records

I had never heard that story about HR and the soup, but I am familiar with the case. A man named Daniel Rackowitz cooked his girlfriends head and fed it to unknowing Tompkins Square squatters

Man i agree that no one really managed to capture what rudimentary peni did, that is of course until i caught slimy member. Check out the EP & the demo, they could almost be unreleased early peni recordings 😉

Interesting...Some would argue that HC was an ep genre, especially since I'm partial to East Coast/Midwest HC and those bands mostly went rock by the time they did an album...Best album on Dischord is of course the Void side of the Faith/Void split! jk - love that first Scream album also. Saw the Bad Brains like three time'85 or '86 at a fairly large venue - the Santa Monic Civic - and it was insane. I worked my way up front and ran into Katon from Hirax. Perhaps the only black dude not on the stage...Saw them around when I Against I came out and the mix of the best of those songs with the old HC hits and just a smattering of reggae was pretty awesome... Off the top of my head, best HC albums... Black Flag - Damaged Circle Jerks - Group Sex DOA - Hardcore '81 Jerry's Kids - Is This My World Negative Approach - Tied Down (really an ep) Die Kreuzen - s/t Angry Samoans - Back from Samoa Blast - The Power of Expression Misfits - Earth A.D./Wolfs Blood ...and maybe not strictly HC...but damn close Zero Boys - Vicious Circle Toxic Reasons - Independence Dwarves - Blood Guts and Pussy Action Swingers - Decimation Blvd. Turbonegro - Ass Cobra

If it was a top 20 probably would have put Die Kreuzen in there

@@AnalogAttack great one! and ZeroBoys Viscous Circle (featuring your fellow countryman, Bruce "TUFTY" Clough who also played on the blazing Toxic Reasons "Kill By Remote Control")

Judging by your top 10, I was a Hardcore fan a little bit earlier than you. Your selections are all good but I'd go for the first wave of HC ; Black Flag "Damaged", Circle Jerks "Group sex" and Bad Brains first album (only released on cassette tape, so not appropriate for your list). If you classify Dead Kennedys and Crass as HC, I'd certainly have them in my top 10. As you like metal, I'm surprised you don't have the first proper HC/metal crossover album in there, Suicidal Tendencies' first album.

If I did this again today the list might be quite different haha. I got into hardcore around 1983 I guess. Cheers!

Have you ever heard the cassette/demo the Cro Mags released a year before the album? Blows the 1986 album away, very raw, cro magnon sounding compared to the way overproduced album sound.

I dont think MDC is even the best HC band from Texas! cool vid, tho. Nice bounce back with Poison Idea! I dig Cacophony for Rudimentary Peni!

If I did this video again I would probably change the list haha

Mdc is ok... Kind of a second tier of bands. I'm younger so I never saw any of these bands back in the day. But in the last 20 years of reunion shows Ive seen a bit. Saw mdc twice. Once was in a d.i.y. basement show in buffalo NY. Was with citizen fish. And the second time I believe was at a bar in buffalo with subhumans. It's funny cause in the town I grew up in south of buffalo we had a local grind band called MDC. And most kids from here never heard of millions of dead cops. Only Mephistopheles death canister! Haha. Just saw circle jerks last month with negative approach. That wasnt bad.

Like early discharge they sort of peaked for me on why ,never liked that hear nothing album remember buying that final conflict record metal tinged punk wasn’t keen ,more metal style guitar work was creeping in on the hardcore punk scene in the mid 80,s especially in New York which had two great bands Reagan youth and kraut

Where is the Minor Threat first 2 7 inches on one LP? Where is Jerry's Kids Is This My World? Both TOWERING accomplishments IMO. And I don't think GBH is a hardcore band, but is a GREAT punk band.

Jerry’s Kids should be in there for sure. If I did this video again I would make some changes haha

@@AnalogAttack i was just thinking Jerrys Kids, what a perfect hc lp. Anytime you do a list, people love em, but they love throw their own picks in their. 2 7"'s = a 12" ep :) Whats your taken on current hc band Hank Wood and the Hammerheads? their s/t (3rd lp) in 2018 has blown some minds and they seem to get better with each recording. It has a splash of garage punk in their, but undoubyedly a h/c album. NYC band, but not macho or pretentious meatheads....and its a perfect album.

Theres a bootleg called Before The Quarrel...most of the same songs, missing a few heavy hitters but has more overall...the productionblows away Age of Quarrel which is kinda flat. i agree with nyhc culture...and i lve in NY!!! never related to it and prefer middle-american, texas and west coast hardcore.
