Quick Thing on the Fourth Armor: Shots not passing through walls in X5 wasn't a nerf to the Fourth Armor, it was just a change of mechanics. Up to X4, shots in general just went through walls, but this was changed in X5 and the Zero series for shots to stop on walls, and this has stuck ever since. So, not a specific nerf to the Plasma Shot, but a universal change to buster mechanics.

Nah, besides the change of mechanic, it was also a nerf in an attempt to buff the Falcon Armor, as it is considered a unique feature. You see, the Falcon Armor charged shots can go through walls. If other shots can go through walls, player may have less reason to use the Falcon.

To me, the main thing that cripples the Gaea armor is x5 itself. Mainly the level design or the routing making to where you can only really use it in the cyberspace levels. the second issue being further exacerbated by the stupid "collect all 4 pieces to use the armor" gimmick.

The footage was detailed and fitting, the humor made me smirk (including the bleeps for the explicatives), and the armor showcase and selection makes me eager to play Mega Man X again. I still remember back to my early years when I played Mega Max X for the first time and fully completed the armor set, and I was blown away by how cool it was. Not only did you get power-ups, but it made X look SO cool. When it comes to the Mega Man series, X is a solid addition to the Blue Bomber. He's a robot that has both style AND substance.

So this is me typing about something i wanted to share but internet problem got in the way: With the X Dive Armor it was like a name sake to the title of the game itself, mega Man X Dive. And with a few characters getting Dive armor, it makes me want to see other characters getting Dive armor, Layer, Alia, Classic Characters, more Battle Network characters, i even wish we gotten that Sigma Dive boss idea. I saw a similar list to this countdown and this list reminded me why the Neutral Armor is number 1. Overall this was a fun list and i am happy we got the chance to see it

Great list here! It's pretty awesome how you included the DiVE armors in more than just a single entry or honorable mention, RAX and the whole MH collab practically sold me on DiVE and it sucks that there's no official way to unlock them in Offline DiVE (thanks a lot Capcom). I'll admit that the Gaea armor is a guilty pleasure for me even though it has a lot of handicaps compared to the Falcon and Shadow armors. I also appreciate the overlooked Blade armor from X6 which was sad to see omitted from this list but there are a lot of cool armors to pick from already (except the Glide armor, that one is just as bad as the game it's from). Your number 1 pick was also a great choice in gameplay, customization options, and how it fits with X's potential. I hope Capcom will use that particular system for future armor sets as well as other stuff that worked in X8 and prior games for X9 (if or when they actually decide to work on X9).

Oh god, the Dive Armors are so _sick._ Like, they just look consistently awesome! Even the Next Dive Armor, as overdesigned as it may be, is still super cool with how it (as far as I get it) combines the Dive Armor's data with the Falcon and Gaea Armors from X5, on top of being incredibly busted. Shame about the crossover armors though. Gore Magala iCO gave me major Mary Skelter vibes, and I _love_ Mary Skelter.

The Second Armor is the probably the most fun armor for me, specifically the buster upgrade, able to tear through Maverick’s I Frames, and decimate them in seconds is awesome. The Third Armor(Max Armor) is also up there, for one reason, the Z-Saber, does MAX damage to Mavericks, able to kill them in two hits(save Kaiser Sigma due to his tiny ass hit box)

So I just had a merchandising idea for Megaman X. A metal (Or at least metal internal frame) figure where one can swap out parts to assemble his base form or various armored forms throughout the entire X series. Bonus points if they could unify the style of all the armor designs to a new overall aesthetic to reimagine him in a more modern (Post X8/Command Mission) style.

Have you tried Mega Man X3: the Zero Project yet? In addition to making Zero fully playable and balancing him to reflect that, it comes with a load of QOL changes that I couldn’t possibly list here. So here’s a few of the highlights: - Less backtracking thanks to Zero being able to destroy certain stage hazards that were previously only accessible by using the weapon you get from beating the level the first time - Fixed X’s upgraded charge shot to actually make the smaller blasts actually hit the enemy you wanted it to. - Added a save system instead of the password system - Added New Game+, where you carry over all of your armor, health, and other upgrades (including the Golden Armor/Black Zero) - Made it clearer that a certain part of the game towards the end could potentially render Zero completely unplayable until you beat the game if not handled carefully. - Makes the Frog Ride Armor function properly on land - Adds an alternate, easier way to get the Golden Armor/Black Zero - ….And more!

I never played any MMX game before X8 but i went back via emulation and played through all of them....as a teenager, on a keyboard. I've since got both X legacy collections and honestly, there's a reason the default X challenge armour is the fourth armour. Reduced special weapon cost (infinite in X4), hover and air dash, plasma shot and half damage are all insane. and together they make the later parts of X4 and the battles with Double and especially The General so much more manageable. I still go back to X4 now and then for a quick playthrough when i have nothing better to do.

I think I know what countdown video you watched if it was the same one I watched that also put Neutral Armor at #1. The armor literally rings home X's limitless potential and the way it can be seen as more armor sets coming back, allowing you to mix and match abilities......Come on Capcom we need a X9 like you gave us a Megaman 11 years ago! Fourth armor helmet works because the boss weapons have their own niches and specific moments when they are usefully, like spiders mobility and beasts spread shot so it's usefull to not run out of them. But most importantly none of them completely substitutes buster so it's not braindead.

Third time I've seen someone actually rank their favourite armours in the X series, first TransformersFanCo328, then J's Reviews, and now yourself. Why it's a seldom covered topic despite their prevalence is beyond my mortal comprehension, especially given the potential for discussion on this and that. With that said, was a shame to not see the Blade Armour anywhere here besides the mention of its Giga Attack, as it's always been a personal favourite for its four directional Air Dash, a second Charge Attack that allows for Saber use even with a Special Weapon equipped, and a Giga Attack that's especially useful against Hell Sigma, on top of a sick as hell samurai design that makes you wonder how it never got into DiVE in the first place, and I feel it's perhaps the most versatile armour in the PS1 games short of the Fourth Armour itself, though Blade has superior mobility. Also, what exactly are the three letters that must never be spoken?

Initially, Doctor Light was unsure whether he should give X the Forth armor or not because Ultimate Armor was the second form of Forth Armor and as Light said, it was not completely safe for X to use Ultimate Armor. In the manga, the Forth armor transforms into the Ultimate armor and drive X's power to max, but X becomes a cold-blooded reploid when using this armor.

don't forget the blade armor, its leg parts are the third armor's but super charged making you go really far either vertically or horizontally, the body part's giga attack absolutely shreds enemies including the final boss, and the new charge shot is like a slightly weaker plasma shot from the fourth armor.

Funny thing that might worth considering : How did Thomas make so much armors for X when he doesn't even has much time left to live to even see X fully function (The test probably could take less than 100 years if he wasn't dyingly sick and has to rely on automate) My theory is that, he didn't. He doesn't have time, but he has all the knowledge about X inside-out and knows how to improve. So instead he made himself an AI to help support X if necessary by the means of Capsules to download datas into X and adapt into armors, if Wily can preserve himself into the future (Serges and Isoc) so can Thomas, they're equally genius afterall. That's why there's Light Capsules in so many placed, a lot of where he couldn't just hide them (Seriously if it was made and hid before he die, how can some be in military bases that constructed AFTER he died for a century?).

Stock Charge Shot supremacy. You don't need Plasma Shot. You have so many options to nuke normal enemies and minibosses (especially charged Twin Slasher and charged Aiming Laser) and Stock Shot is easily better for bossing, in no small part because you don't have to hear that grating noise.

I'm going to make a hot take here. I think X7's Glide Armor is part for part the strongest in the series, in part because you get X so late in the game that the armor has to be a bit extra in order to keep him relevent for the run. if you would hear me out on this... First, the foot parts. No two ways about it, it's derpy and looks incomplete, and might be the second or third best in the series for horizontal movement. I think it's one of three armors that could, say, clear the gap in Metal Shark Player's stage to get to the light capsule with the shadow armor pieces without any kind of assistance if ported over. The other two being the Falcon armor from X5, which is it's literal thing at the expense of a decent charge shot, and the leg chip enhancement from X3. The chest piece is the best in the series. On paper, it doesn't look like much. Half damage plus a giga attack. So far, so Second Armor. What isn't explained so well is that it's not just any giga attack, but one that does so much damage to bosses! It proves to be quite effective in a game where little else is. Plus, the armor has a quirk where not only is X not knocked back, he doesn't even flinch when hit most of the time. Even in most other X games, you get hit, you take knockback, and if you release a charge shot, you kind of lose it instead of firing. X just no sells attacks. As a bonus, you can further half damage making him only take 25% with a chip upgrade, putting him on par with Gaea Armor, or Body Chip Third Armor, though that isn't tied to the armor itself. Buster upgrade seems pretty tame at first glance. It charges special weapons, very standard, except it's something Falcon (X5) and Shadow Armors can't do, and Gaea Armor can't use special weapons at all. It's charge shot is just a big ole bullet, which is the largest on the series, which fires off two or three extra shots to down common enemies with ease. Doesn't complicate things with cross shots or plasma shots that minorly ping bosses for extended I-frames, or lock you in place to shoot a Kamehameha, it's simple, effective, and the only buster I like more is the Second buster with double charge shots that ignore I-frames. Head parts. Not a lot to say here. Lots of armors have useless head parts like Second and unchipped Third, or the First only helping you get other upgrades. Gaea doesn't even have anything listed at all as it's effect, just a part you got to collect to unlock the suit. This one attracts pickups to you at an extended range. Not impressive, but the only really good ones are the Fourth with unlimited weapon energy and the ones beyond that give energy efficiency, so it doing something at all puts it in the median of headparts by default, I guess. There you have it. Glide Armor - X7. A very powerful armor deserving a better game.

2 things, as I remember Xtreme games said X doesnt throw the armors away, rather the armor lose power after X absorbs their inherent qualities, the armors where not really ment as power ups but accelerators of X potential should he needs them, cause, after all, the reason X and Zero are the most advanced Robots in media, in my opinion, is cause both not only have true free will, but also their bodies become endlessly stronger as they evolve from their experiences, yes, that means in X8 he is WAY stronger than X1 by that tangible meassurable factor 2nd, my pitch in favor of the Blade Armor, the most busted non Ultimate Armor, think about it, its a way better 4th armor The head both reduces the energy consuption and increases maximum ammo for the special weapons The body is the usual half damage + giga attack, BUT, it can be charged with weapon refills The boots give you the 2nd best air dash in all games (only losing to literally flying from Falcon Armor) being double the length of other dashes and 4 directional And the arms, while the common Charged Shot is a sligthly weaker 4th Armor Plasma Shot, the secondary Charged Shot, the Charged Blade is absolutly amazing, actually better than the Shadow Armors Charged Blade attack

while i am okay with neutral armor being first. Man disrespected Shadow armor And 2nd armor. Yeah sure x3 armor is neat, but by default the 3rd armor isnt all that great unless with the hyper chip, the second armor is much better on stocking two charge shots that do not combine and deal great damage when they both hit, as opposed to 3's crap first shot and normal second shot, that makes an ok combined shot. Gaia Armor may be heavy and bulky and not so good on design but it does give the look of "heavy and slow", and it's charge shot is super quick and spammable that you can deal constant fast damage to bosses that you otherwise cannot do with 4th and ultimate armor because of the plasma ball making the bosses invulnerable for a short period. The gimmick with Gaia is that you don't have to worry about that, so you're dealing a slightly beefier shot of the unarmored X, but you can spam it faster because it's charged as soon as you start it. In a way, i'd say that is X's buster at it strongest up to that point in terms of boss destruction.
