My dad died in a car crash June 16th of this year. I ended up getting his 2001 era Colt 1911 Gold Cup competition. It’s absolutely smooth as butter and was made during the golden age of Colt. It reminds me of him every time I carry it

The only complaint I have with the video is I wish he would put the price point next to the gun as he’s showing the pistol. That way you get an idea whether any of these could even possibly make it to your safe
@jeremyterwisscha65344 жыл бұрын
It would be nice but...prices can fluctuate a fair bit. And it also depends if your buying it brand new, blemished new, or used, it also depends on what kind of finish you have it (ie duty black or stainless etc) on it. Plus the features on it such as certain ones have rails or different sights or shoot different calibers. So prices fluctuate a bit for that
@jonnyb80374 жыл бұрын
Jeremy TerWisscha I and most people understand that, but a basic price point is not that hard to come up with. People know new is more expensive than used. They know different finishes come with different prices. A ball park number for standard or most common is what I am referring to.

Rock Island 1911's are top notch. Most don't know it but Colt sold them the machinery to the Series 70 models, so that's why they are so nice for around $400. Every part in my Colt fits and works in the Rock Island , what's that tell you. The Colt in 1996 was $550, but today that is $883.00 vs $400ish for the Rock Island.

I never considered owning a 1911 until Ruger brought the SR1911 to market. Ruger represents just about everything that I feel a great gun manufacturer should be giving you great quality and value for the dollar. I'm guessing that a lot of people made their acquaintance with the 1911 platform because of their trust in Ruger and that the SR1911 should be on your list for that reason alone. I've shot my SR1911 enough to know that should I have to trust my life to it, it won't fail me.

Colt Delta Elite, even though I've never shot one, remains at the very top off my "to buy" list. I just have a hard time justifying to myself buying a pistol that I will realistically never carry. It'll happen eventually I just don't know when "eventually" will come around. As far as Kimber is concerned, I try not to be one of the front runners for the Kimber bashing crowd, but my very first experience with them was a Custom II that I bought for around $750 or so. I gave it ample time to work for me, and I put about 700 rounds through it before giving up. 1 in 10 shots would malfunction. Either the case would stovepipe, or the slide wouldn't go into battery with the next round after a shot. This was very consistent. I wanted that gun to work so badly, when it didn't malfunction it was very accurate and a pleasure to shoot in addition to being a great looking gun. But I had no confidence that I could successfully defend myself with it if need be. Just a thought though, I think based on pricing alone Rock Island is worthy of at least honorable mention. My RIA ran me around $400, it's very accurate and hasn't malfunctioned on me when I use quality ammo. Is it nearly the level of quality that you get out of say a Dan Wesson? Hell no. But it is a VERY reliable and affordable production 1911.

Just racking the slide give the first clue that you are holding quality in your hand. The accuracy is as one would expect from something so well put together. Congratulations, YankeeMarshal!!! Being well aware of your prejudice against Springfield Armory (from past KZbin broadcasts) you were still objective enough to place the TRP at #2. Most accurate 1911 I have ever owned, and still own, is one of their stainless TRP models. Beautiful "out of the box" performance, consistently producing 1& 1/2" groups at 25 yards but shooting approx. 12" high of point of aim with their tritium sights (which, as you know, are pretty much "unajustable for elevation). Contacted Springfield and was advised to send it back to them - receiving a free return shipping label. One week later (yes, just one week) they returned my TRP to me with new tritium sights that were adjusted to 25 yard POI and also include a test target. Not only was I impressed with the Springfield Armory TRP, I was also extremely impressed with their customer service. "Gun politics" aside, and recognizing your prejudice against Springfield Armory, it was refreshing to see that you set all of that aside and gave them, along with the others, an honest review of 1911's.

Over a decade ago I bought one of their A-1 GI models and have been very impressed with its performance. Completely reliable with all kinds of ammo and in any weather. I'd put Colt on that list too. They got cut from the elite tier 1, MARSOC M45 sidearm contract. This is widely considered the final US armed forces unit to issue(not allow or authorize) the 1911a1 sidearm. For the record in the summer of 2018, I saw public affairs images of several US generals & joint chiefs staff members guarded by uniformed USMC Marines with upgraded 1911a1 .45acp type pistols. I'm not sure if this was a choice by the unit or if each Marine could pick a 1911a1 pistol.

@artvandalay61615 жыл бұрын
OK, so I read through the replies here and tried to remain objective. So... first of all, if you don’t like 1911’s that’s fine - people have preferences. However, to offer disparaging remarks about the design & people who love them is ignorant. You obviously didn’t have family who fought in WWII and appreciate the history. The 1911 is iconic, an extremely reliable design, and suited the men who used them in war. Enough said.. Quality: yep, no doubt some companies have produced some crappy 1911’s. Some continue to do so, many are overpriced. That’s related to manufacturing & marketing, not the 1911 design. I’ve always appreciated the 1911 and consider it to be my overall favorite design. For a gun designed in early 1900’s that’s still in use & widely collected, that says something. I’ve had Colt’s that were problematic & overpriced, Sigs that were ok but lot’s of MIM parts (remember when the GSG was considered garbage??). I still have a 10 year old Kimber compact ultra 2 tactical that’s been flawless through 1,000’s of rounds. Same for 2 SA’s I’ve had for over 10 years (a “loaded” that’s extremely tight, and a TRP that shoots like some of the high-end customs I’ve had). Sure, it’s not the best gun for each individual’s purpose, but that’s what we own different designs from different companies. I personally have a wide variety and like them all. Lastly, the ASS HAT reference: I get it and am ticked about it. If they sell out gun owners then yes I’ll stop supporting them, but do you remember the Bill Ruger idiocy in regards to magazine capacity? Yet many bought Rugers regardless. Personally I did not, but now Ruger has disavowed from the stance. So let’s all calm down, keep your SA’s if you like them, but don’t continue support them if that’s your conviction. The community needs to come together and make our voices heard, and if we’re ignored I’ll join in calling them ass hats! This is just one man’s viewpoint taken from 40 years of shooting....

Severely injured from wounds sustained overseas but I still duty-carry the SIG 1911 and love it! that said my new primary carry I'm transitioning to is a 1999 near mint Heckler and Koch USPc that can do any trigger variation I can think of outside of DAO. IMO the HK USP/c .45 are in the top-Five .45s ever made. Springfield and Kimber and a Colt Gold CUp (91 I tink but am not sure) are all great 1911s as well but I love how unique loooking the SIG is and how wonderful the trigger is. Tested it next to a Nighthawk and while I noticed some great differences, I didn't notice hardly a difference in trigger or recoil or management, and I consider myself an experienced shooter...still doesn't change me wanting a NIghthawk lol.

My favorite 1911 of all time is the Colt MK 4 Officer's model.Back in 86, I was a young chap fresh out of the Marine Corps. I got myself a job and I got my first credit card. I went to a gun store and that is what I bought. At the time, I was dating my future wife and we had talked about getting engaged. I stopped by her parent's house where she lived and showed it to her. She picked it up out of the box and looked at it. She then asked me, "Is that what you bought instead of my engagement ring?" Two weeks later, I went 1200.00 further in debt via a ring.Thirty two years later, we are still together and I still have that Colt. I wouldn't trade it for a custom Ed Brown.

Unit 38 Great story, still have the gal & the Colt. My duty weapon as a Deputy Sheriff in Ohio is a Colt Commander that was made in 1974. My hearing protection I got in ‘73 when I was 15 years old. So at annual range qualification, my sidearm & hearing protection is older than most of the guys I shoot with. By the way they’re mostly carrying Glock .40’s, they wouldn’t understand. Good Day to You!

For the life of me I can not figure out why Kimber is never higher on peoples list, if it even is at all. I have the Warrior in .45acp and like you mentioned you get an almost custom firearm at more than half the cost. The company is great, the history is superb, and my Warrior is bad ass...oh, anyone who says they dont like 1911 cuz they need more ammo just needs more range time.
@tidefanyankee24282 жыл бұрын
Not arguing with you, but I think a lot of the dislike for Kimber's is that they were bought out by a larger company and the Q/A seems to have went downhill. The earlier models that were made in Oregon (I believe) lived up to what you and YM have said about them. I think a lot of this has to do with when you bought one or when it was made. Just my 2 cents.
@rhmayer12 жыл бұрын
@@tidefanyankee2428 Do you know when they were bought out? I bought mine about 5 or 6 years ago. Also, do you know what the guy in the video referred to as MIM - too many MIM parts on some models, and mockingly called it a Mimber? I assume it's some kind of inferior material?
@tidefanyankee24282 жыл бұрын
@@rhmayer1 Tim the guy on Military Arms Channel talked about it on one of his videos. I'm not sure when they got bought out, I don't remember what Tim said as it was awhile ago when I saw his video. I've talked to owners of gun stores I've been in when I've looked at 1911's and the consensus is the same. The earlier Kimber's were excellent, but now, not so much. From what I've heard from just about everyone is there are problems with Q/A, They (Kimber) just aren't what they once were.
@rhmayer12 жыл бұрын
@@tidefanyankee2428 I just heard from some other Kimber owner/commenter, asking him similarly about the quality dropping after the company was bought. He said that referred to KImber of Oregon, the original company that the father started and they sold only .22's, rifles. That company was sold and then the son later started Kimber of America and all 1911's were from that later company, which never got sold. That doesn't necessarily contradict what you've heard about the quality dropping on the 1911's, but just that it wouldn't be due to the company being bought out. I haven't researched any of this myself - just passing on what another said. Take it or leave it. Thanks for your comments regardless!

My 1911 is an old, pre-Kahr Auto Ordnance Government Model. GI sights, trigger, grip safety, GI guide rod, bushing, recoil spring plug. The previous owner had the barrel throated and polished so it will feed hollow points and two Wilson Combat magazines. It's not fancy, neat or tight as the newer 1911s are but it puts lead downrange wherever you aim for, doesn't jam, goes bang first time every time. You can't ask for more than that

Back in '87 my gunsmith directed me to buy a cheap 1911 (since the inards were going to be gutted anyway) to build a race gun with. I bought a Springfield and I don't think I ever got through a whole mag without a jam before I turned it over to the gunsmith. For one thing the mag was junk. The gunsmith gutted it and built it into a good race gun that I competed with for 3 years (used Wilson Combat mags). My next race gun was a Colt. I never bought another Springfield, but I have been seriously thinking about the Hi Point SA35. I have never owned any of the 1911's mentioned here, but the best stock 1911 I have ever owned was a Gold Cup. Wish I had it back. I have an SR1911, RIA, TISAS, and Magnum Research that are pretty good for the money.
