Kumo looks SO much like my gorgeous Maci, whom I still miss after 16 years. One of the questions I got when out and about with Maci was "Is he for sale?" The first time, I responded like a deer in the headlights. Who would ask such a ridiculous question?!? The next time, I was ready. I said "yes, he is!" When asked the price, I replied that his price was $12 billion dollars. I'd have been in trouble if Bill Gates had wanted him, but wasn't really worried. 🙂 He was the 4-legged love of my life; he was my child.

Aww, my family had one when I was growing up. His name was Bear. He was so sweet, and loyal, and very protective. He would actually stand in front of me, and bark and growl at my Mom if she was yelling at me.

I had a German Spitz Mittel, which is essentially one size down from a Keeshond and comes in more colors lol. I love this breed of dog. They're so goofy and fun.

Yaay! That was very cute and so satisfying to answer those common questions. We have owned 4 Keeshonden. We currently live with 3. Great to have this channel that features our beautiful breed! And please friends, never, never shave a Keeshond. Their coat protects them their skin from the elements and is their crowning glory!!!

I laughed out loud at #1! 😂 People either know exactly what they are or have no idea. No one ever said 'I've heard of those." We would often get "Is that a Norwegian Elk Hound?" which makes sense of you look them up. But NEH are nowhere near as fluffy. We absolutely adored our Keeshond. ❤ He loved the snow and would race us when we went sledding.

I would really like to better understand the "don't shave them in the summer!", thing. I adopted a 6-year-old Kees, Oso, in 2000 and I had him until he was 16. He was the best dog ever and I miss him like crazy. Anyway, we lived in the San Francisco East Bay where the summers could get quite hot. I was told not to shave him in the summer and I never did, until he turned 11. That summer, like most summers in the East Bay, was quite hot and Oso seemed miserable. He didn't want to play or even go for walks unless it was very early in the morning. He seemed so uncomfortable. I decided to take him to the groomer and they clipped him (not too close to get a sun burn but close enough that he looked like a different dog). I brought him home and he bounded for weeks like he was 5 years old, until his coat grew back. I shaved him ever summer after that because he felt better when I did it. I usually had to do it twice (May and then again in July/August) but it always grew back in the fall and he enjoyed his beautiful coat from October until May and then we would clip him again. Everybody I tell this to, who knows Keeshonden, claims that I'm making it up about Oso's behavior when clipped, but I'm not. He was clearly more comfortable, more energetic, and (in my opinion) happier in the summers without his fur coat. Maybe it was just Oso, but this was my experience.

Its like I am watching a video of my Wolf Spitz Taco. He's 5 months old and he is quite the same in the snow, and hates the summer! Great video

I believe a Keeshond & Wolf Spitz are very close if not the same breed.

@kellydean3735 they have minor differences and I think officially they count as the same breed ^^

Less commonly seen I have over the past 40 years had two solid black Keeshonden. One was a litter mate of a grey standard colored Keesie gal, he represents about 1:800 to 1:1000 Keeshonden born either black or pure white, even fewer are born and mature in an Apricot color.
@DrawkcabiАй бұрын
How do you pronounce their name? They were named after a Dutch patriot named Kee. (Who when he became out of favor the breed almost died out. No one wanted to be seen with this breed of dog for fear they might be thought a Kee supporter. Thank goodness some dog lovers in the UK and USA took it upon themselves to save the breed!!!) Kee is pronounced like "Kay" so the correct pronunciation of Keeshond is like "Kay's-hund" or even "Kayz-hund". Keeshond owners will usually let it slide when we hear it pronounced like "Keys-hound" or "Quiche-ound" but secretly it's like hearing nails on a chalkboard for us.

Always love your videos. This is my dream breed! Do you find that they struggle with separation anxiety?
@kumoandsully196610 ай бұрын
They can, yes. They are velcro dogs and love nothing more than being with their people. Kumo can be good for stretches by himself, usually a maximum of six hours before he starts getting antsy.

How much do they bark? And does their fur collect burrs?
@kumoandsully1966Ай бұрын
They tend to be conditional barkers; when excited (food or intense play), and when they are alerting you to an “intruder” (anybody who goes by your home). Their fur definitely collects burrs! I comb them out of Kumo’s fur every summer.
@Kiwikiwikiwioyoyoy21 күн бұрын
I have a part time job removing burrs from my Keeshond unfortunately. Half kidding but either way it’s worth it, they are the most wonderful dogs.

Do they tend to bark a lot ? (I live in an apartment)
@kumoandsully196610 ай бұрын
They are watch dogs, so they generally bark if they see someone walking by your property. In an apartment building, a Keeshond may bark when they hear someone in the hallway.
@johnmiller89756 ай бұрын
yes if you building is noisy
@claudiakammer43296 ай бұрын
It heavily depends on the personality as well. Our Pup only barks outside when someone he doesn't know walks by while i am not paying attention (which is great imo) but within the apartment, there is no barking what so ever even with the door bell ringing
@chrismiller51682 ай бұрын
mine will bark sometimes if someone walks by the front door, but he isn't that bad. Really depends on the dog themselves because my parents have had keeshonds that bark a lot and others that do not. Mine tends to bark a little bit when I leave without him

I have a Keeshond puppy,and he keeps on biting whatever he can find or sometimes tries to bite me playfully. What should I do,can anyone suggest please
@kumoandsully19662 ай бұрын
When Kumo would bite as a baby, I would yelp like I was in pain, and that would surprise him and get him to stop. It takes a lot of repetition, but they do eventually grow out of it. As far as biting and chewing on other things, I would watch Kumo and not allow him to have alone time to get used to chewing certain items. It is also good to give them things that they are allowed to chew.
