But where do you get them? I live in a neighborhood where many, many homes have dogs and I've met hundreds as I have walked my own pups. In 30 years I have met only one keeshond. They must be rare.
@TonyaTime1183 ай бұрын
The dogs are heavy shedders of hair, they are easlily hot all of the time. Keesond’s are not a dog you want to have sitting on your furniture because they shed so much. Also, they should not live in southern states. Our dog had a seizure from overheating. Now she is strictly an indoor dog. With all that being said, she’s probably the best dog I’ve ever ever owned and loved. She is so good with children. They are smart and they learn quickly. Someone complaining about the barking in these video. I think of our dog as an alarm dog. And I really like that.

you shoud look up how to pronounce the name. its not keeshond with the sh as it is in "shush" pronunciation of letter K and then a soft but distinguishable S, followed by "hond" with the h being barely audible, like a quiet exhale

Jesus christ why is every motherfucker wrong on this subject? If you wanna know how to pronounce ''keeshond'' go ask a dutch guy instead of shitting out of your arse.

It's key-zond.

@@nibelungvalesti The name is Dutch and the dog was named after the patriot leader in the Netherlands in the late 18th century, Cornelis ("Kees") de Gyselaar who was always accompanied by his dog. So the dog became the emblem of the Dutch patriots faction. Its adherents wore little Keeshond pins to show their support. The pronunciation is something like "case-hond".
@Ahum12310 ай бұрын
Keeshond is pronounced as: kees (sounds exactly like ‘case’) hond (sounds like ‘bond’, replace ‘b’ with ‘h’.

We are on our third Kees. Can't say enough good things about them, but they are definitely not for everyone.

Could you elaborate? Fox example are they too high energy for some people, too noisy, shed to much? Just trying to get more of a sense of their pluses and minuses.
@bill96532 жыл бұрын
Hi Nick, I would say they are too high energy for some people. The breed is an alarm dog, so when they hear something, they will say something- that is what they do. If allowed, they will bark whenever they want, but with training you can curb this. They are very intelligent, very friendly and can be trained easily, but you have to really work at it. Sometimes they will listen to you and will not always comply, but this is something we enjoy, and he makes us laugh- right now my wife is trying to load the dishwasher and is telling Luka to get his face out of there and he is not. They are very alert and great companions. If you get one, expect him to be with you all the time- they need a lot of attention. Luka tells us when it is time to play, and we spend about 15-20 minutes running him around the house with one of his toys and then he will come down. Sometimes, especially as a puppy, he will out of start zooming around the house- this is normal, and he gets energy out. This has gotten better with age (he is now 18 months) but honestly, they are very active for the duration of their life. I brush him once a week and he goes to the groomer every 3 months (only time he gets bathed) and you never want to shave them, even during the summer. They have fur and not hair and they do not have that "dog" smell but brushing weekly will help with the shedding. He is blowing out his fur right now to get his winter coat, so the shedding is worse during certain parts of the year. They are also very mischievous and curious. I know I gave you an earful, but we love the breed, and they will make you laugh. But if you want a dog that will obey your every command, this is not the dog for you. If you have other questions, let me know. Here is a video of Luka bringing a pillow from our bedroom and running around the house with it. kzbin.infouiW94XfUL7o

@@nickbeckwith6211 i would like to add 1 thing. They are family dogs who wants to be around his family. Not a dog for outside while the family is indoors. Because that will make them very unhappy

They are not called quiche-honds…😅 They are called Kayz-hond… As in K’s dog, K’s hond… Since they got their name from a political leader in the Netherlands in the 18 th century whose name was Kornelius. People named Kornelius or Cornelius are often given the nick name Kayz in the Netherlands. Which also is what the letter K is called in Dutch. This politician in the 18th century had a]this type of dog which became a symbol for his political movement. And as the dog was his, they called it Kayz hound, Kayz hond. And that is how they got their breed name. Keeshond. (Kayz-hond). Not quiche hond like som sort of French pie… although they would love some… 😅
