War Horns are not much good in modern warfare, because on the "stealth" or "avoid detection" doctrine almost all militaries use these days. I've always been a sucker for the super-light, infantry support walker like the AT-ST, the Warhammer 40K Imperial Guard Sentinel, or the AT-RT. A vehicle that can bring much needed firepower on a frame that won't slow your infantry down in environments where they work best. They just feel so practical, like they have a specific job rather than just trying to be a one-vehicle army... even if a walker like that probably wouldn't be that practical in a real-world combat situation.

They were somehow clumsy and obscene, especially compared to the more mecha like knights, which I always adored. But then I read the Titanicus by Dan Abnett and the titans basically became my number one walker over night. Not so much because of what they were (I still think most of them look sort of goofy) but the depiction of their function and the how the crews operate such a gargantuan machine. It's like a mixture of a tank crew and a war ship with crew maning their stations, bantering and working as a team, each with their own role and that depiction just made them feel so alive and real that it completely changed my opinion of the titans. The reaver and imperator are still kind of ugly tho.

Most of the Destroids in SDF Macross are beautiful machines. I'm particularly fond of the original non-transforming Monster artillery piece and the Tomahawk, which is basically "what if main battle tanks had legs?"

@@CptJistuce *Coughs* non transforming monster... Look up the VB-6 König Monster. It actually does transform. Something about that thing coming in hot as a shuttle, transforming into its artillery mode hitting the deck of a ship. Skidding along the deck then firing 4 Nuclear warheads into an enemy cruiser.

Happy to not only see one, but two War of the Worlds tripod adaptions on the top of the list! Some of the designs on the early book covers are amazing as well though, some of them reminiscent of that Wild Wild West spider.

Some examples that were sorely missed. - The ARM Spider Tank from Total Annihilation. - The Mammoth Tank II from Tiberian Sun. - The Tripods from the BBC adaptation of John Christopher's novels 'The White Mountains' and 'The City of Fire and Lead'. - The Chaos Defiler form Warhammer 40K

Good call on the Defiler they are monstrous. The commander from total annihilation to. I’d add the Imperial guard sentinels (40k’ ST-AT) although perhaps they are a bit small, also most factions that have titans as they are walkers to or are they to big.

I heard it the first time the same night I discovered hallucinogens. Then I watched my cat have kittens, interesting night to be sure. Found the LPs years later but lacked the cash to buy it, but at least I realized I hadn't dreamed the music up. The kitties went to good homes and had good lives from what I was told. That was a long time ago and cats don't live that many years. I'm sure they're all gone now.

Walkers with multiple legs are my favourite, and if they’re heavily armed it’s even better. This is why I love both the Spirit of Motherwill and the STRIDER from Armored Core (For Answer and Fires of Rubicon respectively). Yes, they’re both ridiculously massive, but that’s just part of their charm. And it never gets old watching them slowly appear on your screen in all their massive glory, unleashing waves of missiles and hypersonic death in your direction. Speaking of which, maybe you guys can do a video on Fires of Rubicon one of these days? Maybe a look at the Balteus, or even the Assault helicopter? Or maybe just a video on the Redguns or Rusty, who knows.

An honorable mention from me goes to the Avatar from Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars/Kane’s Wrath. It’s one of the few Brotherhood of Nod vehicles that isn’t made of paper mache and is highly adaptable with its ability to commandeer technology from other Nod vehicles. You can give it stealth capabilities, stealth detection, extra firepower, and even a flamethrower.

My favourite walkers are the ones from the Hierarchy in the game Universe at War: Earth Assault. It's a 15 year old RTS game that I would recommend every sci-fi fan to at least playthrough once. In the game for the Hierarchy the Walkers acts both as a combat unit and in a building structure role. You don't build buildings instead summon Walkers whichs drops down from orbit. Units are then built from the Walker. The walker itself has weapons and can move around, it's size allowing it to traverse all terrains like cliffs and can destory most ground units and building just by walking over them. The Walkers also have a unique combat mechanic where they can not be destroyed by simply attacking it. Rather, enemies must destroy its crown hardpoints to expose the walker's coolant nodes. If one node is destroyed, the Habitat Walker's two emergency cooling vents activate and start venting heated gases with a mechanical wail. If two coolant nodes are destroyed, the walker's core will overheat and detonate.

The nightmarish Darkwalker from Unreal Tournament 3 is so much fun to play, especially with a a good gunner. You're not unstoppable, but you do a lot of damage until you are stopped. How it moves, especially with the bobbing, just feels like you are actually in a walker.
