I just got back from the Outer Banks and didn’t go to the beach once (I’m handicapped and can’t walk on the sand), but my kids and grandkids went every afternoon. Mornings and afternoons were spent at lighthouses, eating at the many wonderful restaurants, and going to The Lost Colony Outdoor Play. It was the BEST vacations that I ever had! 😉

We haven't made it to the NC Aquarium yet. But we want to! We were going to go last summer but it was still closed due to the pandemic then. We visited again this year but had too many other things to do. We hope to visit the aquarium next time we are in the area. We hear good things! Thank you so much for watching and leaving such kind comments!

If you ever go back again (or to any beach/coastal town) beach accessible where chairs are able to be rented. They have large fat tires that can roll through loose sand. We had one years ago. It worked wonderfully! Glad to hear you had a great time, despite mobility issues!

Good news Mark Thompson (@markthompson7727) and @maemdcleary! Now the OBX has fat-tire wheelchairs made especially for going on the beach / sand, and they're available *at no charge* on a first come, first serve basis for the beaches at Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head!

I graduated high school in 1986 and the next day I was on a Greyhound bus to Nags Head. I used to live behind Jockeys Ridge and built houses in Corolla. What surprised me the most was Duck area....WoW. From Duck to Corolla was just a dirt road with no stores past Duck, times surely changes.

I have been going to OBX since I was a kid, back before any of the big tourist attractions came around and the area was more wild. We would ALWAYS go play putt-putt in the cool evenings at the course at the base of Jockeys Ridge...BEST putt-putt ever!!! I was sad that the dunes eventually took it over, so many wonderful memories. I had hoped to have shared that experience with my kids when they were little but by then only the top of the castle was visible. OBX is my happy place, the best retreat ever!!

I live 90 minutes away and have been going down to OBX almost every summer for more than 40 years. It's changed so much during that time and I love it just as much now as I did as I child. As soon as we hit the island coming off of the Wright Memorial Bridge, I slip into OBX mode, just a general feeling of peace and relaxation. Great video but you didn't mention the N.C. Aquarium. Definite top 10 in my book.

Wright Bros memorial park, how awesome. Fort Releigh sounds like another interesting place to explore. Beautiful Gardens and fountain. I would definitely watch the play if I was there. We live on the OBX. Next month (November) Jockey's Ridge is having a nightime "Kites With Lights" festival! Lots of people will be flying kites with lights on them in the dunes! Living here there is a lot of fun stuff like that to do! The Pirate Ship on Roanoke Island near the Festival Park in Manteo ("manny-oh") has sailed away and is now anchored in Florida! We miss them! You're so right! The Lost Colony settlers did move to what is now Hatteras Island to live with the natives there! Don't tell anyone though. Shhhh! ;) Another super fun thing to do here that not many people know about is to take a sunset sail on the sailboat "Movin' On". The cost is reasonable and it's a two hour sail on the Albemarle Sound while the sun is setting on the western horizon. The experience, the smell of the salt water, the spray in your face on a hot early evening and the feeling of being away from it all is one of our favorite things to do here! The Captain, owner of the sailboat, is a 4th generation Outer Bankser! Legend says his Great Grandfather was the photographer of the Wright Brothers' First Flight! They provide light snacks and it's bring your own beverages as long as they are not in glass containers! www.sailingouterbanks.com/

@KathyOnOBX2 жыл бұрын
Very nice video! As a local living on the OBX I'd like to mention that the Grave Digger, as you said, is NOT on the Outer Banks and we locals consider it quite a drive off island. The HBOBX Water Park is also not on the Outer Banks. Outer Banksers like to be clear on those distinctions. No harm, no foul. :) Manteo is pronouned "Manny-oh". The Lost Colony play that runs there all summer decided in 2021 to employ only Native American actors in the Native American parts of the play. Andy Griffith used to be an actor in the play as a very young man. His private estate is also on Roanoke Island in Manteo, and his wife continues to live there. Oh, and the real lost colony probably moved to Hatteras Island to live with natives there. While Ocracoke is a fantastic place to visit or live, it is technically not the most southern island of the Outer Banks. A few islands south of Ocracoke are also considered part of OBX, including Portsmouth Island and Cedar Island. The northernmost "island" of the Outer Banks, from Nags Head to Corolla and Corova, is not really an island at all! There is a landbridge on the northern end, just north of Corolla then Corova which connects to Virginia! It cannot be transversed, however. For this reason that "island" is usually referred to as "the northern beaches". Welcome to all of our visitors, past present and future! There are so many great things to see and do here it takes more than one visit. We all enjoy our visitors! Come back soon!

Those of us that no longer have school-aged children go to Hatteras Island much less traffic, noise and crowding. Those with children stay on Bodie Island more box stores, commercial restaurant and children oriented experience. I fear they will destroy your vacation otherwise saying "I'm Bored". A day trip down to Hatteras and Oracoke would be a great get a away for them though as there is the shipwreck museum and the penned ponys along with piers, and 2 more lighthouses to explore. There are wonderful owner operator restaurants with fresh catch to eat at. Many charter fishing businesses. I always feel like I live in the neighborhood when I stay on Hatteras and never want to leave. And throughout the OBX you can find excellent photography companies to do a family beach shot. The price is worth the memories on your home wall. I have lost my heart to OBX since my first vacation there when I went for their small but worthy Bike Week. I go to the bikes weeks not for vendors but for the local riding and this may be straight but there's nothing quite like it, at some areas you feel so close to the ocean you could reach out and touch it. Any recommendations on where to stay for a couple with no kids? Are there resorts or luxury hotels on OBX? We are looking to go in October for our ten year anniversary

Wouldn’t be a family reunion, with ages 11 to 70, 40+ people, without a visit Tojo keys Ridge and Jeannette Fishing Pier!! (Yes, we rent a large house so we are all together).

What an awesome video Alice and Jack! Congratulations on the huge success of this video too! There are so many great things to see there! We’ve never been to the Outer Banks, thank you so much for showing us around and all the great tips!

We love the Outer Banks! It is our favorite travel destination that doesn’t involve a castle and a giant mouse. There really is a lot to do and see in the Outer Banks. This one was pretty successful. People seem to watch our Outer Banks videos more than our Disney videos. I guess it is because there is a lot more competition with Disney videos. But we will keep going to both places and people will watch what they watch, I suppose. Thanks for watching and commenting!

That’s really cool how they incorporated actual native Americans into the play. Maybe I’ll check it out!

I never would have guessed Jockey's Ridge to be the most visited state park in North Carolina. #outerbanks #obx #nc

That kind of surprised us too. We enjoyed exploring the park but it is just giant sand dunes that you have to climb over to see the water. But we would gladly go back and check it out again and bring a kite with us to fly this time. Thanks so much for watching and for taking the time to comment!

To anyone just finding this video: having just visited Ocracoke two weeks ago, the Ocracoke Lighthouse is *not* open for climbing

I can imagine retiring down their! Riding bikes along the beach! Driving an electric sports car! Cruising along the bridge! Fishing and Kayaking! Solar Pannels of course. That or buying some land in the plains of Kansas to put a dream home their one day! Both options are great because I love quiet and remote places near small towns! It's very hard to choose since I'll have the money one day to do both, but which one will I regret! I love storms but don't want to worry about hurricanes all the time... Just tornados, and I'll have the money to make a tiny tornado proof home on like 2.4 acres of land, with again an electric sports car hehe, but it's so hard to decide on what activities would I really want to do once I have the money! For now, I just want to come home and ride a dirt bike or chase storms, and grab something to eat, then relax! Listen to the wind chimes... ETC! I just hate water in a way that I don't feel safe near their cause you really need a partner for doing certain activities! :/ Oh How ever I do love Mini Golf, Seafood, hoping to find a great Mexican restaurant their one day, and the water park seems pretty huge and new. We've been down their as kids so I'm sure the beaches are more crowded now days... Welp, I think I'd have to go with the more activities. But I do want to go storm chasing. One day in Kansas Plains!! I love flatness!! I'd be afraid I'd tried to ride a wild horse hehe!
