Wow - last time I was at Ocracoke was 85' back when I was in the CG. All they had back then was a Coast Guard station, a bank, post office, two general stores and a few bars! Looks like things have changed a little - LOL!

Portsmouth is one island past Ocracoke - still has a whole ghost town called Portsmouth Village. The town has a yearly reunion from when it was shut down ~1974 still with no electricity. Portsmouth is the real hidden gem of the OBX. Rudy Austin is contracted by the NC DOT and takes up to 10 people for $80 round trip from Ocracoke Harbour

So cool that you can only get there by ferry to Ocracoke island! Nice that its free. Awesome that it has a free tram service there too! Amazing there are only 800 residents. The pirate history would be my favourite too! So amazing Blackbeard was killed right off the shores there. Haha love the t-shirt LOL! I would botch the pronunciation too lol. The fried Spanish mackerel sounds good "it tastes like fish" hahaha. The lighthouse looks really cool. Too bad its not always open. This looks like a lovely spot!! Thanks so much for sharing :)

The ferry ride over was very relaxing with some beautiful views of the water. The Ocracoke t shirt is funny. I believe I pronounced it Okacroke which caused Jack to stare at me like I had suddenly beamed down from a spaceship. It is really cool that the population is so small on the island. The Blackbeard history on the island is fascinating. I wish the Blackbeard museum hadn’t closed permanently during the pandemic as that would be fascinating. Thanks for watching and commenting!

We have been going to the OBX for over 20+ years. Always take the ferry over to Ocracoke for the day. Only once when we were at the Ocracoke lighthouse did we get to see the inside. We only go in the off seasons. A coast Guard Inspector was there to check the light and allowed us to see the inside for a few minutes, other than that we've never seen it before or since.

Vacationed on the island back in the 80's and it was definitely the best beach. Quiet, white sand, beautiful shoreline and did I mention quiet. We stayed there for ten days and I think we saw about five people total on the beach.

Well this quaint little island really does make the most of its seaside location! Those are some wonderfully reserved coasts, not too dissimilar to the coastlines of my own country. Pretty cute that they have a little Blackbeard themed store, great place to grab up some nautical related gifties!

With all the walking you do siteseeing, what do you find the most comfortable fir footwear?
@trvlnthru4 ай бұрын
At the beach, we just try to find comfortable sandals - dont have a preferred brand. But for general siteseeing, we love New Balance sneakers. They are not the most popular brand. They have a variety of models with different levels of cushion and support so you may want to try on several to see which are best for you. I have a couple of friends who are nurses who work mostly on their feet at a hospital all day and they swear by these shoes as well. These are by far the most comfortable shoes we have ever had for spending hours walking around a town, park, zoo, attraction. Our feet feel a lot better at the end of the day in New Balance sneakers than the other brands we have worn over the years. Thanks so much for watching!
