The thunderstorm wasn’t luck. You think in 19 years of planning every detail Andy didn’t wait a few extra days or weeks till a thunderstorm was forecast? The noise of the storm was necessary to drown out his hammering of the pipe. The rain was necessary to wash him clean with the bar of soap they found. Without the storm his escape plan didn’t work.
@johnl6176
@johnl6176 29 күн бұрын
we won't know how long he had to wait for a storm to show up though. It might have been months of waiting because everything else was in place. Then when the forecast showed a storm it was all go, with the swapping of shoes. etc.

What would have happened if Andy crawled all the way out of the pipe only to find there was some sort of steel grid welded or bolted to the end that he couldn't get past? He had no way to check beforehand. To make his escape he really had to take a leap of faith that he'd be able to get out of the pipe.

@dongilleo9743 28 күн бұрын
@@Deathbird_Mitch That was my thought as well, but I don't specifically remember that happening in the movie. Now I'll have to watch the movie again to look for that. Given how well planned his escape was, and over a long period of time, it would seem he wouldn't have left something like that to chance. If he hadn't been able to get out of the end of the pipe, there's no way he could have made it back to his cell. He would have been trapped In my mind, it was part of his "get busy living, or get busy dying" attitude. He didn't know if the end of the pipe would be open. If it worked and he escaped, great. If he died stuck at the end of that pipe, or was recaptured(and probably killed by the warden for the attempt), he had had enough, and was ready to try, whether it worked or not.

Nit pick: 500 yards is not "just short of half a mile." One mile is 1,760 yards, half of which is 880 yards. 500 yards is closer to 1/4 mile than 1/2 mile. But like I said, I'm picking nits here. This is one of the two best scenes in this fantastic film. It's so good that the only negatives about it is down to picking nits like this. Great video.

Makes sense. Obviously it wouldn't be real sewage or dirty water for the health of both Tim Robbins & the crew, and mud/silt settles, so to keep it a consistent color they'd need some sort of dye, and food as dye is generally safe (barring allergies). Props & Special Effects departments are so amazing at figuring stuff like this out.

@firsttimewatching7861 Hello There, I read your pinned comment, went away, dwelled on it and I have come back. I have a suggestion for your content, and like with any advice, feel free to use it or ignore it. I love films and I love reactions, if edited right, you can watch an abbreviated version of your favourite film whilst enjoying someone else's experience of it. Some times there are videos where you can see a classic movie moment and numerous people reacting, which is cool. I can enjoy consecutive reactions or all together. With regards to your video, I find it odd seeing you react to the same clip repeatedly. Why not record your own reaction, upload it to your channel as it's own stand alone video and then include your reaction at the beginning of the montage for the particular movie moment, along with the other channels? That way, you are developing a following for your own reaction and your overall editing montage. As I said, just a suggestion. Good luck with the channel!
