It’s hard to cover our amazing town in one short video. Several important places were missed. If you’re a golfer , Carlsbad is heaven. World class golfing resorts here and world class golf companies call Carlsbad home. Our numerous public parks are astonishing and worth a video all by themselves. There are two other beautiful lagoons besides Carlsbad Lagoon, actually it’s called Agua Hedionda Lagoon. Down the 5 a couple miles is Batiquitos Lagoon which is a fabulous protected wildlife refuge with walking trails. bird watchers come from all over to visit there and it’s educational nature center , currently closed due to Covid. Carlsbad is home to The Museum Of Making Music. Closed until early 2021 but a must see if you love music and the history of music. South Carlsbad has beaches, resorts and lovely homes, camp grounds on the ocean bluffs and much more. My wife and I left the SF Bay Area (home our entire lives) for San Diego 3 years ago. We could have lived anywhere in San Diego but chose the coastal lifestyle of Carlsbad as the perfect fit for us. Vacationing or living full or part time, it’s the best!

Hi Randall, Thanks for your great detailed input! I definitely plan on doing more videos in Carlsbad especially in 2021 when the world starts to open up again. I've done a few other videos in Carlsbad covering the Windmill Food Hall and Legoland. I definitely want to show the other lagoons like Batiquitos, where my Aunt and Uncle live! My wife and I are plan on visiting California for the first time. (Early May 2022) We plan on staying at the hotel right across the street from Carlsbad State Beach for a few nights. We are definitely hitting the beach and enjoying the Pacific. (We live in NJ so it's kinda a big deal for us.) Watching this video has really got me excited about the time we'll spend in Carlsbad. I was born in Oceanside at Camp Pendleton in '65 but lived and grew up on 1500 block of Tamarack Ave in Carlsbad and lived there until '74 when I moved to Missouri. Been so many times fishing on Oceanside pier and remember when a storm destroyed it.Also that was a time when me and my friends just being 6 or 7 walking alone to Tamarack beach and the lagoon across the street.I didn't hear if you mentioned him but Tony Hawk went to my school Magnolia Elementary. I think he joined Kindergarten when I left after 3rd grade Also called Carlsbad Elementary. Can't believe avocado's grew EVERYWHERE in Carlsbad and had a ton of fights with them.Want to cry seeing the price now.A Bird of Paradise field was 2 blocks from me and also Carnation farms.Ty for the great vid.Its really changed ALOT since mid 60s to mid 70s.Anybody here live there as a kid between 65-74?

San Diego is sneakily big! I really recommend for people who live here or are just visiting to enjoy the different communities near the beach. Otay Ranch is on my list for late winter/early spring. Enjoy SD and hope you are staying cool in this hot weather!

I'm wearing a Carlsbad Marathon t-shirt as I'm watching this. I've been to the flower fields, and the marathon was at some mall off a freeway that runs east and west. I took the 5 to that freeway and maybe 3-5 miles east, the mall was there. It has a 24 Hour Fitness. But, I was like they said it will have views of the ocean during the race, and I was like this isn't close to any ocean! But, the route took us to the some great ocean views!

The Mall was probably the Shoppes at Carlsbad... its a little bit off the freeway and has a 24 hr fitness. Must have had great views!

Alot is definitely open! Minus concert venues, theme parks like legoland and some museums. Everything else is open with capacity rules and you have to wear a mask when entering establishments and stores. San Diego in the new years will be fun but they will limit large gatherings so im guessing it will be more relaxed around town. Where are you visiting from?

I live in San Diego and want to spend a weekend in Carlsnaughty, Anyone know where I can stay, that doesn't charge a cleaning fee, taxes, employee 401k, medical, taxes, taxes, sand tax, sunshine tax and homeless clean up tax, like Air B and B and All Hotels and Motels in Carlsbad???? Any info would help, I'm from Michigan where we have no homeless a 4% tax and no add on charges from hotels

I'm also from MI. I moved the San Diego 5 yrs ago. I've stayed at quite a few hotels & AirBnbs throughtout the area, and all of them charge extra taxes & fees. You can't avoid it in CA.

Carlsbad by the sea is a great hotel! There's also other hotels around the area that are similar to a residence inn that are nice in Carlsbad.

Camping above the beach on the bluffs is ideal as well. Also beach camping is good for grunion hunting when in season. Bring the family too!

Used to.I was born in 65 and lived on 1500 block on Tamarack Ave until 74,which of course ran right into Tamarack Beach.Used to shoot fireworks on the 4th and yes,had a TON of grunion by the hundreds of thousands with each wave.Had a blast living in Carlsbad as a kid.Moved in 74 to Missouri to a tiny farm town.What a freaking shock to a kid with that move.😂😂

Wow.What years did you live there.I was born in '65 and lived on Tamarack Ave,1500 block until '74.Had an absolute blast back then.Went to Carlsbad Elementary also known as Magnolia Elementary. That was just about 3 blocks away and was a time I would walk there alone or with a friend. 2 blocks from my house was an amazing Bird of Paradise farm and also a Carnation farm.Very cool to look at.
