Thanks, good hint. I'm looking to make a set of straps to make the portages on the Great Glen canoe route a bit easier - this was really helpful.

To carry loaded boats in a foursome, make two of these straps and haul the boats (one at a time) by running the straps under the bulkheads and holding the loops by the hand.
