Excellent instructional video - informal and entertaining. Just bought a 'Doughbag' as a commuter / general hack and it's entirely adequate at everything it seems! Jobs and inspiration for the winter months - many thanks........

I have used a screwdriver to hold the universal joints Somewhat straight, I think you call it a cross joint or something like that in the UK.. another way to lube that would be.. pull the boot back, so you can see where are the driveshaft splines mesh with the universal joint. Pull the assembly back just enough to get some EP grease on the splines without pulling the driveshaft completely out of the universal joint. just pull the assembly and the driveshaft back maybe an inch/25 mm, and insert a grease gun hose with a grease needle attachment.. I just bought one of these machines, NT 700 Honda Deauville here in 2023.. it’s a 2010 with 7500 miles on it from the original owner.. when I buy a machine used, I always assume everything has been neglected, from brake fluid to fork oil.. thanks for the video, very useful information.. I also have a Yamaha royal star venture currently, 2008. I have done the driveshaft splines on that. near the swingarm pivot on the Drive shaft tube. There is a hole with a rubber plug in it to give access to stabilize the universal joint so that the driveshaft can be re-inserted… might not be a bad idea to drill a hole in the housing right near the universal joint on this machine to stabilize the universal joint for that purpose.. hey hole just large enough to insert a flat blade screwdriver, maybe 15 mm. I would make sure I could get a plug to fit whatever hole I want to drill before drilling that hole. The Yamaha ventures have that rubber plug that is just about the right size for that task.

I would be against drilling holes… Tanks for your comment you give some good advice there Good luck with the 700

Had t do same job at Xmas and found feeding the diff up the tube and using left hand to hold knuckle inside gator and lined it to the shaft. Fell in handy but maybe I was lucky. Hasn't fallen off yet anyway.

Nice vid and good to see you city r the deauville. Only similar vids I could find was the pan euro and a vt 1200 or something. So fair play, going to be a good and realistic tutorial to anyone in future going to have a go. Best of luck into the future with the channel. Looking forward to future adventures and exploits

Good video It is not a "Diff"...Differential.. it is a Bevel Drive... a Differential compensates for the different speeds of 2 Wheels when cornering.

Hello, please help if you can Got nt650v, 2003, beauti silver horse But, when upshift from 1to 2ng gear, hear strong metal shot, somewhere on the schaft, cant say is if on front or rear part. 5 timrs goes like this, then goes like in the butter, fine small klick. Other gears great. Also, when off trottle and again on trottle, hear "tok" I would be thankful for some idea what/where to look. Thank you.

Have you changed driveshaft oil? Deauville gearboxes are known for being very tractor like anyway. I would change the driveshaft oil and remove rear wheel and grease driveshaft splines with molybendium sulphate 60% paste (grease) and go again it will probably last for years.
@zdravkobrlek6676 Жыл бұрын
Yes i did changed shaft oil,also engin oil, but did not greas splines. You dont think is something with transmission elements? Thank you for your quick answer 👍
@biker1k Жыл бұрын
@zdravkobrlek6676 it could be but very unlikely People don’t service the splines and they wear away and make all sorts of noises. If it’s really bad you may as well source a new drive shaft unit or replace the engine as it can go altogether. Let me know how you get on with it please

I will try with grease, hope that is the problem. Will let you know for the result. 🥂

I'm curious about what looks like a shock mount just in front of the bevel drive , is there provision for an additional" helper" shock ? I've seen these added to bikes hauling sidecars.

Greetings from Latvia! 😉I have NT700VA (2013). 25,000 km. There is a problem with the noise when driving, in any gear, at the moment between load and rolling, there is a clicking noise that all Devilles have when you lift it on the center leg and put it in 1 or 2 gear. I don't know if it's supposed to make a rattling sound while driving, but the noise seems to come from the front of the shaft drive. Oils have been changed everywhere, everything has been monitored, but I have not removed the shaft drive. Now I ordered a wheel damper kit, I will start with its replacement. What do you think, is this a problem? Thank you, have a nice day!😉
@biker1k11 ай бұрын
All transmission on all Deauville’s are known for being noisy. Specifically for the 700 I can’t comment as I’ve not owned one. If your concerned it might be worth pulling the shaft apart and inspecting the inner splines. Other than that. Can’t hep

I think the 650 and 700 shaft drive are identical, at least it looks that way. But ok, thank you very much for the answer!👍

1:14 Apparently my mechanic applied lithium grease instead of MoS2 grease on the splines as the manual recommends when he changed the final drive because of wear. I am planning on using the right grease this time but I got two problems. 1) How much of the final drive should I dismantle to clean the old lithium grease? 2) What is the brand of that grease? I have been checking on the internet and my town but I can't seem to find the right product. It doesn't need to be the exact one you use but I'd like to buy one that I know it's going to work for sure.
@biker1k Жыл бұрын
Hi thanks for your comment 1) The grease you use does not matter so long as it’s 60% molybendium paste. Honda dealers sell 3% molybendium but it’s not sufficient. Search eBay for 60% molybendium paste and you should have some options. 2) it’s the splines at the rear wheel which are prone to stripping if not greased. If you want to go belt and braces you can pull the shaft like I did in the video bits it’s normally just the splines at the rear wheel. Hope this helps
